    Toronto FC to join MLS

For members in Toronto and USA, i thought you guys might be interested in this:

Professional soccer will return to Toronto in 2007 when Toronto FC joins the Major League Soccer lineup.

"This is an exciting day for soccer fans in Toronto who can now enjoy great quality soccer and have a team they can call their own," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. "Toronto provides the perfect backdrop for the world's number one sport given our city's diversity and affinity for soccer. We're committed to making Toronto FC and Major League Soccer a success."

The name was selected in an online poll of soccer fans ahead of Toronto Nationals, Inter Toronto FC, Toronto Reds and Toronto Northmen FC.

Toronto will become the 13th MLS franchise and the first to be located outside of the United States

"We're thrilled to have Toronto FC as the 13th team in Major League Soccer and our first international club," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "The combination of a new stadium, a diverse sports market and one of the elite sports and entertainment organizations in the world provides an exciting future for Major League Soccer in Canada."

The team's red and white logo will feature a shield with the letter "T" and the word Toronto written across the front.

Anselmi says they wanted to stay away from conventional sports nicknames.

"We wanted the whole city to feel ownership and we want to provide the opportunity for a meaningful nickname to emerge over time."

The National Soccer Stadium at Exhibition Place, which is currently under construction, will serve as Toronto FC's home, as well as the home of the Canadian national team. It will also be used for community soccer leagues.

The 20,000-seat stadium is due to be completed in time for the start of the 2007 MLS season. It will also play host to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in July.

Na not yet, first they have to prove they can actually win a game before I waste 2 hours of my time. Last year (there 1st year) they had like 5 total wins and this year like one draw and seven losses! fukk that shit, all they have is Pope the defender, Kreis, and Cunningham up front, rest suck.

Um he's the forward who played for Colorado last year and was the leading scorer so if your talking about him then yeah...I think we gave up Clint Mathis to get him. And I think his first name is Jeff.

this is good news for canadian football. We have so many immigrants in Toronto that I think we could probably take the US championship in the first year. I don't really watch mls though so, i don't know how good the champs are.

I'd like the MLS to get big, because that would mean soccer would get big in America and hopefully get rid of boring ass baseball. But the MLS is so bland, its just about the same every year. DC United wins or LA Galaxy win... it never ends
