RASHT – Weightlifter Behdad Salimi has set a new world record in the snatch in the +105kg category.
At the Mahmoud Namjoo Weightlifting Championship, which is currently underway in Rasht in northern Iran, Salimi finished in first place in the snatch by lifting 214 kg, which is 1kg more than Hossein Rezazadeh’s former record.
Hossein Rezazadeh, nicknamed the Iranian Hercules, still holds the world records in weightlifting’s super heavyweight class in the clean and jerk and for total weight lifted.
Salimi was chosen as the Best Male Lifter of 2010 last week by World Weightlifting magazine, according to the votes of fans.
