Well, with 2 games now under our belt and 2 losses for us to claim, taking a look back, I see quite the ironic picture!
Our so called legionaires were completely outshown by our highly motivated IPL stars...
Players such as Nekounam, Kaebi, and Teymourian impressed much more than Karimi, Mahdavikia and Hashemian. Of course, the injury situations as well as the news of the disarray in the TM camp most probably had a part to play, but as you step on the field in an Iranian jersey, you play a significant role in the daily lives of 70 000 000 in your nation and many more abroad.
I don't believe either of our legionaires showed the fight and courage necessary to achieve our goal (whether injured or not), but our IPL warriors fought against Figo and Ronaldo with so much heart and courage, that they made me proud.
Just think what it could have been with a motivated Karimi, Kia and Hashemian! If only they were able to show the determination the other's showed! Even the highly critisized Mirza somewhat came through for us in moments where my heart was beside my ankle, and my stomach turned inside out.
In the end, one could wonder how it would have turned out with different players, different tactics, different...
but let's face it guys, realistically, chances were always slim.
I, for one, am happy enough that we still have another game to look forward to, and hopefully, a win to boost our pride.
