    Omid team's game against China

Just a few points I thought I’d go over:

    1- disparity in numbers corrected.
The disparity in the number of players in each team got corrected with the red card given to the Chinese player in the second half.
Upto that point, we were playing with 10 men, against their 11.
    Oladi?
For the entire 120 worthless minutes he was on the pitch, his usefulness for us, could not match the locker-room sweeper !
He was absolutely and totally out of the game, and did not do one worthless thing that helped the team along.

One must really wonder what is wrong with the coach who sees this and simply denies our team of an 11th player !

So when I see ppl asking why we didn’t capitalize on the red card, I must remind them how that card actually made things “equal” !

I was extremely angry and mad at Simoez for his stubbornness and frankly, stupidity for persisting with an utterly useless player for the duration of the game.
    Shades of another coach, eh?

I guess we usually do not attract coaches with enough brain cells to lead our teams !

    2- Roudbarian
Once and for all Roudbarian proved to us that he just cannot be our main goal keeper.
Now, I don’t know what went on in his mind when he time and again insisted on “playing” with the ball while the opponents were so close by. Something he had been doing from the very first game.
But I know this. His co.ckiness and stupidity almost cost us the semis !
It was plain and simple, a miracle how that Chinese shot bounced against the post and didn’t go in! Nothing short of a miracle.

People used to go at Mirzapoor for his footwork.
    Well, looki here, mates.
We DO have a goali with the footwork, but not the brains to know where and how to use it !!!
    Now, take your pick.

    3- Team performance
The overall teamwork, I must admit, was better than the previous 3 games, despite what many friends say.
Even Borhani was more in the service of the team, which is a pleasant surprise.
The midfield played a controlled game with lots of passing. Better than the other games.
    Defense?
Their failings were to be expected.
It is only becoz we weren’t facing strong teams in the earlier stage that we never saw how fragile they are.

    4- The referee.
Before anything else, I think, we all have to thank the referee for two very big issues.

A- For giving the second yellow card to Oladi, therefore giving our team a chance to be a proper team … inspite of Simoez, I must add.

B- For actually doing a fair job at refereeing ! Given his nationality and race, and the past records & history.
Although the number of yellows in the latter stages could have been less.
    What was it? 11? 12?

    5- Borhani’s goal.

Look. We can take either of the stances on this issue.
One stance would be to follow the “gentleman’s rules” of the game. Which would look down on this attempt at humiliation.
( try preaching this to no less than the world champs, Italy !! hah ! )

The other, the more hard rules of reality, parallel with the generally lowered standards of chivallery and conduct, I’d say this : “Tit for tat”
I don’t think there are many who have forgotten how Zareh was red carded in asia cup.
As the saying goes, you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

One can try to stay squeaky clean. Very good.
But when you see unfairness, cheating, blatant injustice, vivid bias and unsporting conduct from all angles ( China, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, AFC, Fila, TWD, …. ), one may be forgiven to at least try to show off and maybe rub the opponent’s nose in the dirt once in a while.
Why shd we be on the receiving end of it all the time?

I prefer to say what Arash did was to boost the morale of his team-mates. To use this as a kickstart to take control of the game and show their superiority.
Aint nothing wrong with that, brother.

    6-China’s second goal.

This goal shd have been an excellent example of how to finish such opportunities, for our players.
The contrast between a good football players, and one who fits the circus better than a football pitch is shown here.
The ball which was taken & shot directly and on the rise by the Chinese player, into our goal, would have been man-handled with several touches and a couple of dribbling attempts, and most probably lost to the defenders who would have had enough time to compose themselves and take control of the situation.

THIS is the difference between a football player and a circus performer.

man what you got against oladi?

only because a player didnt score or had only a few scoring oppurtunities doesnt mean that he is completly useless.
borhani also had only one or two chances in the whole 90 min.

the opponent is not stupid. they wont let iran do what they would like to do. they have to neutralise the dangers.
chinas defense worked well in that match.

that game was one of these hard fought matches, where teams dont take full risk, and so not many scoring oppurtunities occur.

oladi justified his presence on the field with always offering himself as an option for a pass for his teammates. andhe mostly managed the ball well.

sure that scoring oppurtunity he had, where the goal was empty and he couldnt hit the ball properly, or his cheap dives were bad, but those were mistakes, who dont decrease the certain worth a player has for his team.

and it was the other way around. borhanis act boosted chinas morale, not irans

I did not see the game, but the previous games indicate that Oladi may be our most marked player on the pitch with two, if not a third player attracted to his activities on the ball.
The REAL. The LEGEND. Since 2001.

ird jan, I have nothing against the player, himself.

but if you watch the games , especially the china one, you'd see his input and effect on the overall performance has been insignificant.

useless and futile dribblings which usually turned the ball over to the opposition, wrong passes and bad passes, bad shots, wastage of time due to malhandling of the ball, .... all mean one thing.
he was the worst player on the pitch.

all he has to speak for him was a tackle in the middle of the park !
        that's it.

and to keep him on, for 120 minutes, based on some UNFOUNDED HOPE that he'd do something, is completely unacceptable. It's not as if he's done such great things in 3 previous games that we shd look forward to some, anyway !

This, especially when we know we DO have other players on the bench who MAY be the answer, or at least prove to be useful to the team.
The least gain is we may see a change in the rhythm of the team up front and just maybe some shake up among the teamwork up there .... which may result in others buckling down and working harder.

I see absolutely no justification in keeping this guy past the first 45 minutes of that game.
        nothing whatsoever.

        ==========

        khabalood jan,
reducing our options , just becoz we think he's most marked - which itself, is open to argument, as it is?

how did we capitalize on this "most marked man" in the other games?
        did we?
        at all?
        NO.
coz if we had, we'd have seen other scorelines.

again, I must refer you to my answer to ird, on keeping a player on for 120 minutes based on such things .

          Doctor Doom,

Although I agree with some of your rather harsh criticism, like playing Oladi in every game, and my own criticism of not playing the excellent Rezaei and Yavarzadeh (although Rezaei was unavailabe against China) I wish that we could look at the bigger picture.

Simoes has had a year to set up his team and his most valuable players where taken from him in the final hour.
You can rest assure that with Akbarpour, Shojaei, Kaabi and Madanchi, this team would have blown most of their opponents away.

These players were not allowed to follow amid some murky circimstances, plus the apparent lack of friendlies, camps, support , FIFA issue etc.

For example, Simoes was not allowed to field his team against Korea in Tehran or take the squad to the LG cup in Jordan.

Amid all this, with a little bit of luck, we have made it to the Semi finals with a realistic chance of making it to the gold medal game.

All that without enough preperation games, key players and the FIFA issue, some of our own working against this team in the media and IFF....... whle Simoes is trying to change our way of playing.

Most importantly, this generation of u23 players are not half as good as the one we had in Busan.

All this should and must be taken into account when criticising the coach..........still Simoes has made some rather strange decisions but I tell you, if we make it to the final, then Simoes is the saint that some of us has made him out to be.

If you complain about the quality of our game and want to see a smoother brand of football, then you have to set up 20-30 pregames (like China), have some long camps, have your federation working with you rather than against you etc etc.
I am just not sure on what basis fans and the media expect this team to play "nice football".......Simoes magic stick maybe?

1- if simoez had akbarpoor, shojaei, kaabi and madanchi, we would have been in even deeper crap than today.

if he went along with akbarpoor's fudged ID, we'd be out before we could spell the word "maldives".

Apparently, even kaabi's ID may be tampered with !!!

2- secondly, do NOT for a second assume he has done well with the present selection, including the choices you brought.
out of this team only 3 or 4 players will be qualified to participate for the olympic games.
so he hasnt helped our Olympic qualifying team either, with such selection.
something that is far more important than this tourney.
last time we qualified for the olympics and did go , was more than 28 years back !

poorheidari was ripped apart for taking a large number of seniors to 1998 games. when many teams took part with their olympic teams ( TRUE U-23 teams ). Simoez , deserves criticism for this, in the least.

3- I really dont think working on crosses and width of the team needs 6 months of consistent camps.
he has had enough time to work with the present team, to add some dimensions to it, to add some alternative strategies, ... yet we dont see any.

            "saint"?
unless he pulls an impressive rabbit out of the hat today and the next game, I'd say he is much closer to be a "sinner".

lets cross our fingers ppl like me are wrong here.
for the sake of our football and Olympic hopes.
