This is a good thread, but here's the problem. Almost everything in life is related to politics.
Football is no exception. People sometimes try to fool themselves by saying let's keep
politics and football or politics and blank separate. You can't. What you can do is to
set rules so the relations are clear, and the effects minimized.
The problem isn't that we don't have private clubs, which is how clubs should be managed. The
problem is those in charge of Irans government don't want to lose their control over
anything, football included.
The simple fact is, most revenues for a football team as you already pointed out comes
from T.V broadcast right. Who has monopolized the entire Iranian T.V? Iranian government.
Seda va Sima is not willing to pay the teams for the games they broadcast and worse, teams are charged for the usage of stadiums! How the hell are the teams supposed to
make money? Currently they get money from government, but mostly it is not clear.
For instance, where did the $300,0000 Perspolis paid to Bayern came from?
The results has been:
1-Lack of accountablity on the part of team management
Most Government owned teams owe money to both players and coaches
2-Since temas are not really competing by the virtue of the fact that they are
government owned and somehow they will be rescued if they are in trouble, you
have competition take a back seat to politics.
3-A would be investor, can not use this atmosphere to invest in Iranian football as
the rules are not clear, and the return on the money questionable.
All of these and more I discussed on this forum a while ago, but in the world of Iranian
politics and in this case sports not much changes and we will probably have the same
discussion two years from now.
