    Afshin Ghotbi...

this may be a little off topic, with Asian Cup an all......

But, Afshin Ghotbi, was considering joining perspolise as thier coach......
An assistant coach, no matter how good he may be, can never go high places, without holding some kind of head coaching....
with enough time spent as assistant, he be out of job right after Asian Cup,and indeed he has accumolated great experince with two high class European head coaches,as well as attending world Cup twice is also a plus.
by his desire to join perspolise, it seems he either is very petriatic or he does not see any one els offering him the head coaching job....
But, hypetheticaly, if he shows himself as a worthy head coach of iranian domestic club, he may well some day be the TM coach. But the question now is, if perspolise is the right place for him? or even if Iran is a right place for him ?

the reality here is that he might not sound like the best option for Perspolis job, but the rest of the candidates are not any better it looks.
if he does well in Perspolis, which I am not sure if he can work with Estili without somone pulling him down, he can eventually be considered for TM. That's in few years at least though.

Well it's interesting theres this daily football program on one of these LA based satellite channels you might be familiar with. The host is a guy by the name of Zahab who's very close with Ghotbi and has had him on his show. Zahab was saying on his show about two nights ago that Ghotibi gave him a call that morning saying that despite all the rumours about him not wanting to go, that he will go and it's 100%.

Now he's certainly got up close experience with a world class team like Koream and he's helped coach other teams as well like LA Galaxy, but he's never been a head coach so far as I know. And for someone who's never had to deal with the stress of that job, he's going to be very put off when he takes charge of Persepolis which is a club that as we all know is filled with hashiye.

I just can't figure out what he is going to be doing for PP.. I am afraid he is going to become the escape goat for all the things that will go wrong with the club. I doubt he will last there with lack of professionalism (something that he is very used to) ..

he might be looking at this as a way to get to TM.. but either way, I don't see him to be a good fit for any Iranian club team although I am sure he is an educated coach.

good luck to him, it will be an interesting experience for him and us
