History Lesson: What Abedzadeh and Ali Daei have in Common?

I posted this in the regular forum but it was pushed down so fast becasue of so many new threads. So i post it here for those of you who did not see it and actually give a thought about more analytical threads.

Well this is just my observation and speculation:

    They had the "it" factor...

    1. Abedzadeh retired from TM after 1998 WC and it has been 9 years that we have not had a goal keeper that would have 10% of his self-confidence and talent. I used to be a goal-keeper and I am telling having self-confidence and a great vision are the two most important factors of a superstar goal keeper. Abedzadeh was not appreciated by the media and many coached when he was playing and he is not being appreciated right now to train young goal keepers so we dont have to be stuck with Mirzapour or Roudbarian or Rahmati etc... Taleblou is young talent but he needs to go through extensive training by Abedzadeh to reach his maximum potential.

    2. Daei retired from TM after WC 2006. I have no doubt that he was not the same Daei in last 3-4 years of his career and I agree with that. But he was one player who was a great finisher and had a great vision. "Midunest khodesh ro chetor tahmil koneh beh dafeh harif. Dont get me wrong Vahid is a great player but he does nto have Daei's vision. We do not have any prospects for a superstar striker in the next few years. Unless bunch of young and talented forwards get trained by likes of Daei and Vahid so hopefully in the next 4-5 years we have a superstart. Right now, out strikers dream is to go to UAE league and get paid a lot and be happy to be a superstar in that crappy league (rajabzadeh, samereh, kazemian, enayati, madanchi, etc...)

    3. It will be another 6-7 years before we have another superstar striker and God knows how many more years until we have a superstar goal keeper. We likes of Mohsen khalili, borhani, hamid shafiyi, etc... as out young strikers we are not gonna have a superstar. We will feel the void of Daei (up to the age of 32-33) in our football as much as we have missed Abedzadeh in the last 9 years....Look at out team---> out strikers (vahid and enayati) have not scored in two games in the Asian cup and they are at their prime.

Good post. Daei's ability and physics is exemplary at least at Asian level. I still remember our superiority on the air in 90th.

I think a keeper must be smart which you translated as vision. That was disaster filling Abed's spot with one like Mirza who still needs to know which hand is the right and which is left.

Hope we don't have to wait on your prediction, however I am afraid yours is based on reality.

    Cheers,

The two positions we struggle at the most are at forward and keeper. Consider that our forwards are not strike targets nor are they speed players. Vahid can jump, but he is not exceptionally tall.

The keeper situation will not be solved anytime soon. Mirzapour had years of experience at the international level and was never able to improve.

We seem to be loaded in the midfield with young and veteran talent. We are set for WC qualifying.

On the defensive end, we still have holes. Rezaei will leave after the AC and our defensive be much younger. We need a leader on defense as Yahya played that role well for the last few years.

2007-2008 will be a time to give some new players opportunities to wear TM uniforms.
We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

what these two had incommon, aside from talent, was thier no-nonsence, take over, authuriterian attitude.!!
abedzadeh, became goal keeper at the later part of his life, and did not start playing football being a keeper....may be this trend should be copied !
abedzadeh, used to read offences, and anticipated what will happen, and that helped him, more than his ability to jump.he also had a self steem unlike others.
Ali daei, was also unique, and likes of him, will not come too often.....he was at the position, we historicaly have had problem, which it might be to our genetic, and cultural limitations.....how, ever, he was not as perfect,as abedzadeh......Daei had problem with his lower part of his body, as the way he walked, with the emphasis to his chest,he seldum looked at his own feet, and dribling was not so easy for him as it might have been to better strickers.he how ever, had the command on the Air.

I think our team plays like West Germany in 1980's. It goes down at first, or starts out weak but then somehow manages to come back / pull the result.
