In the event that Clemente fails to sign ...

if he doesnt sign, then given the proximity of the games and how crucial it is for the team to start its proper training, I'd say bring in GN for the first round.

he has worked with the team and knows them well. and frankly, I think he IS adequate for teams like syria, uae, kuwait.
while we finish the first round, IFF shd have finished signing with a proper foreign coach so he could take over immediately after the first round ( or even be on the bench for the last couple of first round games as advisor ).

Becoz the way I see it, the team needs stability more than anything else. they need a stable regimen for training, a stable set of tactics and plans to work on. while we have an interim care-taker, nothing is stable and no player would even heed EZ's commands.

naming a coach ( almost ANY coach ) will bring some stability to the team and takes us out of the status quo. I dont think it'd be a bad idea if IFF went about their search for a coach and bring him in even in the midst of the first round games. but the priority is NOT the coach and shdnt have been for the past 2-3 months.
    the priority is the TEAM.
the TEAM has to be formed and coordinated and polished. especially after sitting on a shelf for 7-8 months gathering dust.

oh isnt it sad that we still havent been able to finalize his contract. For all that i hate GN, i think he may be the best option if clemente bails out

The question is whether Ghalnoei will accept the offer...

I personally doubt it...he has a lot of grivenesses and thinks he was mistreated.

But in principle , I agree.

At the moment, I think he is the best option.

Logically yes, but at the same time it will create some issues and conflicts with some players. Some have openly criticized him, so he'll have to put some players aside which incidentally wouldn't be a bad thing after all as the squad needs some house cleaning.

actually , on the issue of GN Vs. ppl like samereh who have had conflicts before, GN has shown he's ready to let the bygones be bygones and forget all that for the sake of TM.

before AC07 he did say it a few times that his personal clashes with samereh will not get in the way of how he treats the team and he in fact did invite samereh twice. and it was samereh who begged out of it.

Now, I hope both have become more mature and are ready to put their personal issues aside for the greater good of TM.

but majid jan is also right. it'll be up to GN to actually "accept" the offer.
but deep down, I doubt ANY vatani coach would refuse it if they're told there are no options and this is for the good of TM, even if they know they are temporary.
guys like Dr. Z, Karimi, GN, ... come to mind as good choices for the temp job. knowing the opposition & our capabilities/potential, I'd say it wouldnt hurt their resume either if they accept. they also come out looking more patriotic and nationalistic than ever which will boost their reputation and popularity among fans.... as it SHOULD, I might add.

Clemente left Tehran tonight and there is a big chance he wont look back.

I that case, I really wish I went in a coma and woke up some months later completely disinterested in the sport of football. Because folks, I am predicting a very dark future for TM and I cant take to watch our TM go downhill anymore.

Regardless of what happens to Clemente, IFF must have a solid second international
coach ready for deals and offer. At this point, domestic coaches must be looked at as
just a temporary solution and with that understanding. Even if we get a good coach after
Kuwait, that is still 4 games. A coach needs to really have time with the team, and
even if we made it to next round, that would be rather late.

If it comes to domestic coach, I would take the coach who got us WAF champion,
over GN (was is Parviz Mazllomi?) (Again agian, just a short term lead).

He has every right to feel that way.

Although I know we would qualify to the next round with him as coach, I would rather give Ghotbi the chance if we are choosing domestic coaches. He has done a good job with Parspolis this year, and hopefully he wouldn't just play names like GN.

khabalood jan, ghotbi has certainly NOT done a job at pp ... at least not yet.
he's just finished HALF a season and that is not "doing a job".
in fact recently he's been doing quite badly and moreover, many pp players dont respect him as much, imagine how much respect he'll get from TM players !!

I agree with GK jan that IFF shd always have kept an alternative in mind. ( santini perhaps ? )
any of us in any situation shd have a contingency plan if our ideal plan doesnt work out. but do we really think IFF has this much smarts? I dont think so.
that's why I brought up the vatani coach issue.

Doctor jaan, Ghotbi has not done well in regards to all the party bazi that is associated with Irani football (which is effecting his team negatively), and while it is true that he has not won the championship yet, he has been able to turn a struggling team around. We need a coach who can rejuvenate a team as he has, but who is better able to handle the political side of things inside and outside the squad. I don't think GN will be able to do that, since none of our forwards were able to score a single goal at the AC, and he has proved that he relies on big name players in his most recent games.

We all keep talking about our TM, and talents, and WC.......never, stop and see what these ass-holes ( excuse my french ) have done to our country....
what IFF has done is just a tip of an ice berg,..and we can see, what our fellow Iranians have to deal with all year around , and in every facet of life..
Bunch of , low lives, with little understanding, play with millions of Iranian aspirations, and decent wishes......and they, get to make decisions, which put us all in frustrating situations......
We ( Iranians ) are the ones who pay for thier stupidities, and they get to , play around with our credits, and our names.
We would be fooling ourseleves, to have any hope of becomeing something, while these M-F are around.

Ghotbi really needs an achievement under his belt, before taking the next step. If he
could manage either a Hazfi or IPL (preferablly IPL) top finish then he should be
considered. But the season is not over, and we dont have time. Guys trust me on this one, if we go with the likes of GN or any of the domestic coaches to round 4, we will get killed (assuming we make it).

The Syria game was a big warning sign. Regardless of if player x or y is missing, this
is effectively our team. Which player do you think could have made a *difference* that
wasn't there? I think the chant of Daei, was underlining the sad fact that we really
                        don't have that much option.

The Syrian don't even have a quality striker and in the second half were camping in the back not even trying a counter attacks, still they gave us a good scare. Koreans and Japanese will eat us alive. They are getting better with every game. I don't know what happened to Thailand, but they had one of their better teams since the 70's and managed to lose 4-1.

At any rate, the only solution is to have a quality coach, who can just take the best
comibination of players (rather than combination of names) and let them practice like
there is no tomorrow and motivate them. Only a good Euopean coach, can give the player the sign that if they do well and listen well they may have a real chance outside freagin UAE clubs.

with due respect to my freind, khabalood jan, exactly which "turn around" for what "struggling team" ?
PP got the third rank last year with a lousy roster. the turn around came right after mid-season break of LAST season.
this year they have if not the best , one of the best rosters in the IPL.
also there is no parvin factor involved in pp related atmosphere and politics.
so I dont see how difficult it is to succeed.

and most importantly I think you along with other members here agree, if a person hasnt beed tested at club level, giving the national team to him is just not right. hell, we saw GN who WAS tested for 3 consecutive years and came out acceptable and still we saw how he mismanaged the TM.
ghotbi hasnt even shown how he can deal with a team's eventual slump period yet.
                            na dadash. I respectfully disagree.

Doctor jaan, Ghotbi has played a part in Parspolis' good run this year. The team was performing better defensively and offensively, and his coaching has even helped older players like Bagheri improve their game. The team was also far more stable than the Parspolis of last year that would give up several goals in the span of minutes in overtime to Sepahan. Unfortunately the team is still plagued with party bazi, notably in the form of Estili and those loyal to him and he has not been able to effectively deal with this and it has led to some poor results. More importantly Ghotbi has shown that he is not afraid to bench big name team players like Sheys, and that is a quality we need in our coach. He also has the experience of two world cups, and Asia Cups (although not as a coach) working for good european coaches, which is still more than can be said for GN, and there is a good chance Parspolis will win the league this year, since it has turned into a three horse race.

If we must choose a domestic coach, and the choices are between GN and Ghotbi, I would rather go with Ghotbi. I have no faith in GN rebuilding the squad and I firmly believe he will resort to his tactic of using big name players. Although I do believe he can navigate us out of this round...somehow.
