Ghotbi announced by IFF Deputy, Taj, as TM coach.

Ghotbi officially became our TM coach.

All I have to say is that I agreed with most of the points Mansoor jaan made in that thread of his he opened last week in the football forum, and that I'm not very optimistic about this appointment.

I don't think half a season at one of the best and biggest clubs in IPL, with one of the best squads in the league, and some (lucky) narrow wins with bad football, qualifies for the TM head coaching job for the WCQ's.

I'm afraid he's not hard enough and hasn't got the authority to deal with some of the current TM players who can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

    Khoda Rahmemoon koneh.

Amin jan, I have read many of your points but I am sorry to say your bias against Persepolis really shows through. Everything for Persepolis is good luck, but for Esteghlal its bad luck! They have one of the best squads? Who? Nekbat? Farshid Sooti? Mamani? This team has hashie like no other and should be way ahead of the other teams if it wasn't for the 6 point deduction.

As far as I am concerned a inexperienced Ghotbi has more knowledge and 6 months working in Iran should have allowed him to realize what type of environment Iran is in. The appointing of GN someone who has failed as head of TM with supposed tons of experience and a championship in his resume would have been a huge mistake.

I would rather have had a top class foreign coach, but lets face it from the beginning people in IFF and PEO were against this.

I say lets support this man and hope that TM can play the best football and qualify for WC 2010 in South Africa.

Nokhodi jaan, that is what I wrote in the fotball forum before I'd opened this thread.

Who said anything about GN? I was against appointing GN as HD at that time as well, but, like with Ghottbi now, I supported him and our boys since we were so close to the AC.

As for the bias: I'm sorry you had to say that. I really believed in the FF+ everyone could express their honest opinions without being labled as biased like in the football forum happens the second anyone says "balayeh cheshme ... abroost".

Dadash, yes, PP (same as SS) does have one of the best squads in IPL! Are you really challanging that? Tell me, perhaps you believe teams like Pegah, Peykan, Rah Ahan, SSA, Bargh, Fajr etc have better squads??

And yes, Perspolis did have a couple of lucky wins this season with playing bad Ali Asghari football (like every team has, but I'm just warning that we shouldn't be fooled by that, thinking Ghotbi came, saw conquered like an Emperor, like some made him one after a couple of wins).

Of course I will support him, like I already said, but I'm not very optimistic about appointing a computer analyst after just 6 months of coaching experience, at the helm of our most beloved and most important team, and that to guide us to the WC. I'm sure he'll do fine against the likes of Kuwait and Syria, but I'm curious to see how he'll manage himself in front of teams/coaches that teams like Japan, SK, Saudi and Australia have.

Football can only progress in Iran when this bi-polar mentality dissapears and the real national interest mentality prevails.

I don't know how on earth a coach who has so limited experience at coaching can qualify to be TM coach. What an extreme choice between Clemente and Ghotbi??

I will support Abbas Tokhmi as a coach , just because of the passion for Team Melli , but any attempt to convince me that Ghotbi is qualified to coach team melli based on qualification , achievements, track records is just a pure insult to my intelligence and of others.

Let's face it, Ghalenoei , despite everyone's insistence of his failure , is many times more qualified than Ghotbi , to me that is an unshakable fact and I challenge anyone to compare apple to apple.

Saying that , Ghotbi might very well take us to the next round ....beyond that it will be anyones guess.........we might make it we might not, ... One thing I know though..... I will not be making early travel plans to South Africa as yet.

all I will say is that GN had his chance and faild, GN's record is not better than Ghotbi as GN has not for even one day work outside of Iran or coach a team that played a game internationally...Yes, you are right, Ghotbi is not qualified to coach TM, I would NOT choose him myself, but if I am left with names like Mayelikohan, GN, Dr Z, or Ghotbi, I would choose Ghotbi or/and Dr. Z over the other two any day.

It is almost irrelevant who the coach is.. I can make a case for MK or Abbas Tokhmi , ( , I had to say it.. I was laughing my ars off when I read that)...

ghotbi is just as qualified as any other vatani coach, but his qualification doesn't necessarily make him the right choice.. I would have taken Dr. Z over him.. but as I said before, I really believe it is almost completely irrelevant .. I don't think that TM coach is such a difference maker in the way our team melli players plays football.. at least not for the foreseeable future..

As far as passing a judgment on ghotbi, he hasn't done enough for me to judge him.. the fact that he doesn't have enough head coaching experience doesn't bother me a bit.. the one thing that he did with PP from the begining which was impressive was that he called out his players and he put it on them.. I have not seen another Iranian coach do that , ever before..

If His coaching license is not fake, the rest of his credentials are good enough for me..

All he has to do is surround himself with some good assistants and be bold and gutsy enough to make his own decisions and not let people around him dictate to him who should be on TM roster.. the rest is not in his hands anyways..

It is going to be interesting to see TM list...or maybe not..

and oh by the way, If I see Sheys Rezaei's name anywhere on the TM roster, I am dropping Ghotbi from my list..

              I am a TAJI ( Esteghlali ) by nature !, and I believe,We have,in the past,given chances to even inferior coaches.......why not him ?
Aside from haveing a very pointed and focused mentality, and working on his resume' ,and design it toward coaching the TM, ( He could have found a job in africa,or carebian, etc,,but he chose Asia ,and korea),( And later PP ,away from california)...and aside from his very limited time with PP, he has been impresive, not only on score board, but also in handling the Players, mafia, estili, and the fans....in a very short time......he indeed had been taken lightly, and deserves credit, and a chance, where Mr.nobodys, such as Branko were given.

              Go Ghotbi, Go !!!!!!!!!!

i just hope we are not making the same mistake with ghalenoi.
by appointing ghalenoi as TM head coach, both esteghlal and TM were destroyed because ghalenoi was not yet ready for TM and esteghlal had a lot of success under him and there was still room for improvement.

now im afraid the same might happen to perspolis and TM. from wat i have seen, i think afshin ghotbis secret weapon is psychology and motivation. im not sure how much higher he is qualified in terms of tactical knowledge but anywayz, inshalla its the right man for us

the man has put his and his whole career on the line by choosing this position. he was very popular until today, but from today on, he is gonna make many enemies. i hope he doesnt crumble under the pressure and i hope the people of iran understand and support him for his decision!

Are you serious , or are you trying pull of of those fast RED tricks on me ?

GN's record is NOT BETTER than Ghotbi ????? When was the last time Ghotbi managed a national team to start the comparison process ?? In fact , when was the last time Ghotbi managed a CLUB ?

I suppose it is all water under the bridge now...... One thing that I really feel sad about Iranians in general is their lack of neutrality and sometimes extreme bias. When it comes to football they see it in either Blue or red.

.......This is why Ghotbi , out of nowhere , is suddenly the National Team Coach.. It is only fair in their opinion because the previous one was GN and he is a true blue.

Now... as long as the blue and red fans are happy, to hell with the rest !!!!!!

mmmm,as long as he will have a red pen to cross on names whose their BMI (Body Mass Index) are above 23, I don`t care much. In this way, I think he gotta cross at least 10 of the current players including Nikki and Karimi who need over-size jerseies to hide their bellies.

Well, he didn`t do in PP. I am thinking maybe they don`t have scale in the club to weigth the players. Hope he does in TM. Oh, I gotta go, I put my beer in the snow, it`s gonna freeze. The rest is beyond my control....

Gooooooooooooood Luuuuuuuuuuuck Mr. Ghotbi, don`t forget, there were so many before you came with big hope and left empty hand. Don`t forget, try to act like an American in Iran, otherwise we got a lot more Iranian than you. After all, you were hired bcz of that.

PS: Whoever didn`t see GN success in the last 4 seasons (or so) of IPL, doesn`t follow Iranian football.

                      Cheers,

I've been away for 3 days and I come back to find out so much has happened in my absence !!!

so clemente's deal fell off again, eh?
who was the culprit? aliabadi , again?

                            and ghotbi's got the job?
inspite of all those negatives against him ?
the only logical way I can accept this is that everyone else refused the IFF and only ghotbi was left.

and finally, I have to say F**K it. we've got a coach who can start the team's training and get them ready for kuwait.
not the best of the choices available, definitely. but even a one eyed man is better than not having ANY man as the leader.

I JUST HOPE IFF CONTINUE THEIR SEARCH AND SIGN A GOOD FOREIGN COACH ASAP, and at the LATEST, by the end of the first round.

becoz I'm afraid with the eventual advance from the group, some immature starry-eyed fans will demand retention of ghotbi !!! with absolutely no heed of the dangers of the second round and his many shortcomings !

I wonder have they even approached DENIZLI yet?
and if yes, what was his answer and demands?
