After watching the heavily heated and important PP-SS derby, it became clear to me, that the best player on the pitch, the smartest player on the pitch, the best decision maker on the pitch, was none other than our ever young Karim Bagheri.
We can not over look this simple fact. Both Persepolis and Esteghlal are still the two most significant pillars of our football, and still, to this day, a majority of TM players come from Esteghlal and Persepolis. In this tenacious derby, where our 2 biggest, best, and richest clubs play each other, and one player emerges as the best player in the derby, does he not deserve to be in the national team? If players like Jabbari, Badamaki, Khalili, Sheys Rezaei, etc. are invited, then why not Karim Khan who was head and shoulders above all of them?
I am aware that Karim Khan has requsted to not be called to Team-melli and that he wants stay out of the limelight in order for younger players to emerge, but our football is clearly in a crisis. This team melli we have now is too young, un-organized, un-disciplined and is clearly lacking a leader in midfield and in the defensive line. I am also aware of his age, but has Peyman jan said in another thread in this forum, age is just a number. Should we overlook inviting Karim Khan just because of his age eventhough he was the best player in the derby? Having a team that is too old is a weakness, but so is having a team that is too young, and this current team melli, in my opinion, is way too young. In our roster vs Kuwait, we did not have one single player over the age of 30. And the lack of expierence showed in the latter stages of a match when he squandered a 2 goal margin. Karim Khan saved a goal for Persepolis with his foul and eventual red card on Ravankhah. He knew that was a golden chance for SS to score, so he stopped the play and sacrficied himself for the ultimate long term success of his team.
Karim Khan is exactly what our young TM needs. A legendary Iranian player playing along their side that has wisdom, intellect, and most of all, expereince. I'm sure with a little persuasion and current state of TM, Karim Khan will be willing to offer his services to the red, white and green once again.
