    What next ?

in recent times, arab teams have come to understand a compact defense and time wasting tactics work really well against us.
they have got the results , also, to prove it.

now, given the info above, we shd expect the syrian and uae teams to simply play for a draw against us, as they've done so far and successfully accomplished.
they have learnt our team doesnt deal with packed defending too easily and we get frustrated and near the end, lose all tactics.

so what shd Daei , as a coach whose back is against the wall now, do ?

he shd have plans for such circumstances.
we need to change a lot of things to get what we want now.
the whole game plan and strategy has to be overhauled.

but we know one thing: what we've been doing to face a compact defense hasnt been working.
neither the formation, nor the tactics.
unless you have a death wish or ur skull is filled with air you shd know that ur plans are not working, by now.

    DRIBBLING attackers
we have guys like karimi, jabbari, shojaei, niki ... who can dribble past their markers.
play them more up front and near the 18.
one of the two things can happen:
    A) they break through which will create an opportunity to either pass or score.
    or
    B) they get fouled which would either get a penalty or a free kick in a dangerous proximity.

    which brings me to:
    2- SET PIECES
when we have at least one ( ideally two, but nothing can allow for idealism given our present mentality at TM ) very good set piece kicker, we can make use of these tactics.
I remember saying this a billion times. there are whole TEAMS basing their tactics on set pieces and succeeding. why not us?
I know some ppl will complain why I bring him up, but lets face it. mobaali IS our best direct free-kick taker.
if daei still wants to continue his stubborn, branko-clone behavior, then might as well assign someone like khalili for the direct kicks at least.

seeing how we get SO MANY set pieces around the 18 but waste them one after another, just makes one wonder what would happen if we DID have a game-plan on them too!
we get at least 11-12 of them in each game and we use exactly NONE of tem.
there are teams that WIN games with set pieces , with half of that number of chances !
where is Daei's international experience here?

3- and the third matter is : LONG RANGE SHOOTING.
when we have ppl like nekunam, hajsafi & niki plus others ( read outsiders ) like madanchi, kazemian, & mobaali ... in the team who take good long rangers, it is most pitiable to see the post-game stats read : 1 shot in 94 minutes !
    1 shot !
especially when you find it hard to penetrate, why not try shooting ?
it is as simple as 1+1=2.
you dont need an advanced phd in nuclear physics to figure it out. or even years of playing in europe, which daei has. or ....

    4- USE THE WINGS
It shd be done more often and with regularity, which will spread the tight defense open and other attackers to come in.
Use players who can cross well.
and the good news is we DO have enough of these in Iran: niki, madanchi , rezaei, kazemian, kia, kaabi ... etc.

5- and need I stress on the need to change the formation that has NEVER WORKED for us ... and somehow, I'm sure will not magically work in the next 3-4 weeks?
unless daei or his supporters have a magic wand and wave it around.

    CHANGE THE F**KING FORMATION f.f.s. !

get two forwards up there, which will increase our targets up front, and thus, our chances of scoring.

Payman jaan.............well said...as your suggestion after being practiced will make big differences........
I like to add some small details, regarding anti-negative play , strategies...though not as substantials .........

1-Hossaini, and Aghili...are too inexperinced "' OFFENSIVELY '", compaire to what we had with Gholo ,Nosrati and Rahman...( I do not know how could that be changed in short time )....yet,this aspect of offense is very crutial, when battleing negative play of the opponants.

2-Inside thrusts ,from side midfields , like what Mahdavikia and Madanchi, used to do, is also missing.

3-The particular way, set pieces should be kicked !...this kind of kicks, should have three distinct trojectories....such way, that while the ball kicked with inside or out side curve , it should also have a trijectory to go up and come down exactly in the 6 meter BOX, while it is low and fast to not give defenders time to adjust ...so, it must be, Low,fast, curved, with trojectory.

4- As payrovani said, our center forward, should go to ball , and respond to the crossess at the FIRST post, and not wait for the ball to get to the secound post....as thier defenders had been ready for that kind of attack.

5- Karimi ............that is said enough......to break free inside, and bussy more than one defender toward himself.

6-Connections from defensive line directly to the offensive players..as to by pass,midfielders......that also adds to the speed and keeps thier defense off-guard.

7-advancing our defensive line, with sharp anti off-side defensive strategies to shorten the field for our offense.

8- Long distance , shots from 40 yards away, and work ,and prepare for the rebounds.

9-keep the ball high... for our hight advantage.

1- you know, what really intrigues me is how daei, as a striker who was literally victimized & hurt by the single-forward formation, is sticking to this moronic and brainless formation ( in relation to Iranian players. no need for some to tout germany, france and ... ) !

didnt his performance suffer from not having a partner up front during branko's years ? wasnt he ridiculed and chastized for not being able to score goals by many fans who just noticed the striker's lack of scoring and NOT the REAL problem behind it?

so why would he, deliberately follow the same moronic idea, already knowing the result FIRST HAND ?
just to say "I use MODERN formations" ?
if that's the answer, then that's brainless.

does that mean using the old 3-5-2 formation wrong, even if that pays dividend ?

      ----------------

2- the second ironic matter is how Daei, who near the end of his career was a pretty good free kick taker, is actually IGNORING this major MAJOR tactic in his teams now !!!

in TM, the way it's approached is something like a useless formality that one doesnt like to deal with but has to, becoz the evil referee has forced them to take it .
so they just get some bum behind the ball and say kick ASAP, so we can get on with the freaking game.

      it's bordering on mindless !
      -------------

how ironic are those points ?

Just finished watching the Iran - UAE game. Maybe I am too emotional, but I have never seen our team toothless like this. UAE was the more dangerous team despite being the guest. They were able to peneterate from the center of our defense few times they tried.
We were very lucky Aghili foul on Matar wasn't called a Penalty and a red card for Aghili.
Why on Earth we play at home with 4 defenders and both Nekonam and Ando. God damn this legioners business.
Daie's subs was really really poor. If he wanted to play long balls why the sub of Khalili and Enayati? Keep Enayati, Khalili and Nilki all three as three dominant players in the air.
Don't know maybe I am too emotional but never ever I remember in our history our team being third or fourht in frist round of WC qualifications.
We seriously might not make past the first round. Where are those guys who bashed GN for everything. Our national taem beat UAE twice under the same coach Metso and now in Tehran we are lucky to get a draw. Shame Shame Shame.
Our football is going down day by day. Nang va nafret bar IFF and its management of our football.

Well with Daie just standing there in the goal mouth the defense will put two players on each of his sides that will create a vacuum for other TM elements to do something. Just think about a late tactical sub around minute 70 or 75.

in the general forum I came across such a piece and jokingly ( fit for general forum consumption ) joked about it:

در اين تمرين اکثر ضربات دايي به زيبايي به گل تبديل شد.

                AHA !
now I understand why his team sucks like a turbo charged vaccum in set pieces.

he doesnt like to be topped !
if someone else scores off set pieces , like a certain player , that would make daei look bad !
so that certain player should watch the games at home, while our TM pisses and sh*ts all over 13-15 set pieces they get in each game !!!!!!!!
                LOL
but seriously, when a coach is THIS aware of such aspects of the game and is actually this good in them, it just .... ( and I'm trying to find a word that does justice to the extreme amount of amazement, disappointment, surprise, and sadness of the matter ) &^*$#@$& ( I couldnt find a word that could do justice ! ) my mind to see his team S.U.C.K. this bad in them !!!!

it's PATHETIC to see a second corner fly over the whole field. in our last game more than 6 of them did !
one would think by the second time some lazy arse from the staff would get up & tell shojaei ( who obviously cant take set pieces to save his own life ) to kick lighter or shorter or ... not kick at all.
                but no !
that is expecting too much from this bench !

same thing for freekicks ( indirect & dorect ). same tragedy !
not one player who could even PRETEND to be half successful in getting the ball where our lads could pose some half-arsed danger !!!!
                not one !

                pathetic !
you see games are won ( from the highest level of football to the lowest levels ) with freekicks and set pieces.
but that's not good enough for IRAN !
                that seems like cheating !
that belittles our true strength and power !
that would make us look weak !
we shall do it the hard way .... even if it means we get knocked out on our arses for the VERY FIRST TIME IN OUR HISTORY, off the preliminary round of WCQ's !

علي دايي تاکيد كرد که مطمئنا ايران بازنده ديدار با امارات نخواهد بود.

obviously a coach who plays 7 defensive players in his team would say that. and will live to see it happen too.
I can in fact take his word for it.

but wait. we need a WIN.
now, with that kind of system, when you're asked for a WIN?
coach : "Duuuhhhh !.... uummmm..... eeerrrrrr..... ahem ...... aaahhhh ... you see ..... uummmmm ..... you know, ...... errrrr ....... well we can proudly claim no1 can score on us. that shd be good enough for you all. now go away and stop bothering me." !!!!!!!!!!
