    Daei's bench

The selection of the allowed 7 substitutes worried me a bit.

He went for Talebloo, Bengar, K.Rahmati, Sadeghi, Jabbari, Madanchi and Khatibi

Apart from the usual arguing about this player sucking and another deserving to be there much more, I don't think we had enough defenders, especially wingbacks, available.

While the midfield positions were covered well and also with Khatibi and Madanchi we had 2 players who can play striker, we only had Bengar for defense. Imagine Zare would have been injured, we would have had noone who could really replace him, same about Gholamnejad.

The presence of Nosrati, Shiri or Alenemeh would have solved this. As both can play centerback as well they could have been there instead of Bengar who can't really play wingback or additionally to him as having 2 options for central defense wouldn't have hurt. A midfielder could have been cut off instead.

Astute observation. Where did you get the bench list? AFC site? I just want to make sure list is accurate. If accurate, I totally agree with you. A simple injury to either LB or RB would have been really a problem. Maybe he would have sent Ebi Sadeghi to play defense in that case who knows.

good point and in all honesty I am not sure if the following deserve a spot on the bench of TM at the moment
Talebloo, Bengar, K.Rahmati, Sadeghi, Jabbari, Madanchi and Khatibi
we have players to make our bench deeper and stronger...let's hope we see that for the Nkorea game.

Actually from the short picture shown on the live broadcast , but I waited until FIFA.com put it as confirmation. You can find all official match reports there in the World Cup section. Actually this was not too surprising, Daei had put Bengar as sole defender on the bench in last round as well sometimes.

Team Melli had 4 defenders on the field, Aghli, Hosseini , Gholamnejad and Zare. They also had 2 players they could have used in defense and played the role before in Zandi and Nekounam , plus one straight defender on the bench in Mohsen Bengar and another who has dual roles in Kianoush Rahmati (who was a defender in Pas)

Assuming that one of the defenders was injured , I would say that Bengar would have filled that Capacity, another defender injured , then he would use the other options mentioned above. 3 defenders injured , then there would still can manage by changing tactics.

I am not sure how is the bench is selcted , to be quite honest , and what positions are catered for except for one definate position that is the reserve goalkeeper .

It is an interesting thought , however , and interesting discussion.

1- I think I saw alenemeh on the bench.

2- knowing daei, I wouldnt have been surprised to see sadeghi come in for an injured defender ..... or GK, for that matter !
something gojng on between the two !!!!

3- for the next game daei shd really re-think his line up and 18 man squad.

                  good observation.

i guess he has to drop either e.sadeghi or k.rahmati cos both can play DMs (not to mention ando himself who was playing can also play DM) and include a fullback instead (kaabi was suspended, so probably alenemeh or nosrati)

Not the first advice you have given to Daei , and I bet it is not going to be the last either.......

Vow, dont' call this gusty or careless!!!!! Please don't mean to be disrespectful toward the coach, but only one defender, what if Gholamnezhad or Zare get really injured?

P.S. Thansk for teaching me about checking the game sheets on FIFA.com. It will helps a bit when one wants to write about the game.

Expecting Bengar to play LB or RB specially in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 diamond (because both systems relys a lot on the addition of RB and LB on attacks) doesn't seem logical to me. If Iran changed to a 3-5-2 for example Bengar playing RB or LB is ok but not in a 4-2-3-1.

Who is GK? Do you mean Goal Keeper? I assume that was a sarcastic remark?

The poll was completely bs, because it didn't even hit the nail. As I said you could have made a poll between Karimi and Bengar, and the majority would have voted our sole defensive option on the bench out.

Also the majority of fans agreeing on something doesn't mean it's right.
