Ghorbani's selection is really very strange.

I am surprised to not see Mehdi Shiri from Bargh and even Farid Abedi since Hashemian is injured. Guys like Khalatbari although are good players won't solve or offense issues.

Mehdi shiri in his good days can bring offense to our team considering specially the dire situation we have in our forward line (now that we won't have Hashemian).
"When I see the good in you, you get motivated, feel good about yourself and that creates synergy. It creates an environment where everybody can work better together. I think in the Iranian culture it becomes very ordinary to always see the bad in each other."
Afshin Ghotbi ( Former TM Head Coach)

Nasser Hejazi was the Takhti of our football.
Mohammad Panjali (Former PP and TM Captain)

        - frankly, with shojaei and jabbari, I doubt even nouri would get the nod ... let alone poor shiri who's considered an outsider to daei's circle...... insppite of being superior as he is to nouri. ( perhaps daei has a rule not to call 2 brothers at the same time and is making space for mojtaba instead )
and it's amusing to see karimian ( who's sort of a poor cousin of shojaei in style ) is called from bargh, but shiri ( its star ) isnt ! although poor karimian is in for a cut anyway.

        - montazeri is another good call that can be played either in central defense or even def-mid, should ando falter.

        - I'd say after pp game, we should DEFINITELY see mojtaba shiri for LB post ( as zareh just wont do. it's clear as day and to deny that is quite magnificently and fantastically idiotic ).

        - I'd also call a better keeper than ahmadi ( vaezi ) and maybe a striker or pseudo-forward like Niki.

        - karimi ? I'd love to see him back. but that's a totally different matter as we all know.

im guessing seyed salehi scoring regularly lately and being yougner and having ACL experience was preferred over the older farid abedi.

as for pirouz ghorbani, i would prefer shakouri over him but oh well, i wont be surprised if he is striked off before the final squad.

I think with Jabbari, Shojaei and Nouri present, calling up Karimi is a not very likely scenario. If Karimi pulls of an outstanding show tomorrow though it might be different...

if karimi plays like he did in the derby, he'd deserve the call and actually be in the running for the starters.

.... barring any personal stuff or "outside" factors, that is.

^ I disagree. He had some good scenes and I especially value his goal as clear positive effect, but his overall performance wasn't so convincing that any coach would invite him. Don't forget Karimi only played 2 competitive matches after months of absence. Just don't make the mistake of already ruling out any other reason for a possible Karimi exclusion than personal feelings beforehand and so force yourself into a position in which you have to support ridiculous theories.

                    only 2 games?
                    so?
                    shojaei's had only 3 or 4.
                    how many kahtibi's had ?
                    how many ahmadi's had?
                    how many ando's had ?
how many zareh's had as LEFT BACK ?

the number of games dont count and you know that.
it is the FORM the player is in as well as his motivation.
right now, both shojaei and karimi are motivated ( perhaps for different reasons , but nevertheless motivated ).
the only thing is karimi has scored and shojaei hasnt.
( and frankly, the new karimi has superior defensive skills to shoajei any day.
also the new karimi gets better results from his dribbling than shojaei.
if we're fair, it'd be rather easy to see who would serve the TM better )

I also saw you wrote "karimi isnt the karimi of 04".
                    ok. absolutely.
but karimi 06 also wasnt the karimi of 04. aaaaand I didnt see any of you ppl raise this valid point in 06

so lets focus on technical points and merits here. not following some agenda of defending X or Y.

                    --------------

anyway, for all we know, we may yet see karimi's name tomorrow.
but will he play ? that's the point here, not the formality of a call up.

Shojaei had 4 in Spanish league plus several TM matches. I'm just telling you, don't get lost in a one-sided view which you then have to defend.

And Karimi doesn't get better results, this is not a fact. Karimi is playing in IPL, Shojaei in La Liga, don't forget that. Also not Shojaei's assists in TM, the latest in the latest game in Riyadh.

                        Not bad overall, but a few points;

I don't know what the deal is with inviting Rahman Ahmadi? Has he been doing better than most other IPL GKs???
Also, I haven't followed UAE league, but don't Mobali and Kazemian deserve a chance? are they injured? out of form? benched?

^ many players deserve a chance, the two you mentioned already had plenty in the past and none of them managed to make himself irreplaceable, Mobali less than Kazemian. So if players deserve a chance, it's young players who never or barely ever had one.

^Well MR jan, these two both have experience playing for TM and specially with Kazemian who performed well last year, could be useful against a team like NKorea.
And any younger player with no experience of course shouldn't be tested in a world up qualifier, however Mobali and Kazemian are less of a risk MR jan, if invited.
I think the fact that play in UAE has a lot to do with it, and to an extend, rightfully so,,,,the should come back to IPL I would say.

Well, that is a point (one I don't fully agree with though). I just think demanding a "chance" for players with m such any caps is not correct.

Short of Karimi winning the AFC player of the year again, he won't be invited and that is a mute point. I guess we like it or not, need to get used to see TM without Ali Karimi.
