    Football rules too rigid

I think there are some rules in football that desperately need to be changed and amended.
especially when it comes to referee mistakes.
I understand why fifa hates to depart from the traditional principle of not changing or reverting a referee decision during a game, post-event. many of those decisions remain, especially the major ones about a wrong off sdie call or ball crossing the goal line .... although personally, I think once proven to be wrong, fifa ought to change the verdict.
they dont change it becoz the beneficiary of the bad decision may claim "if that goal was allowed/disallowed, then our game plan would have changed".
    fine. valid argument.
but one shd try to err on the side of the right, not the wrong.
the aggrieved party deserves MORE right than the beneficiary of a wrong call.

But there are some things that can easily be done without much of a ripple effect.

    for example rezaei's yellow card.

if fifa takes it upon themselves to review the ref's decisions post-event, and see fit to ban or fine a ref ( or a team or player ), then what's holding them from canceling out such unjustified yellow cards ?

if the ref is being punished for the wrong call, then why maintain the card given as a result of this wrong call ?

Actually, I think you could only apply this to cards, and only cards. I agree whole-heartedly though, there should be nothing holding back organizations in correcting this type of incorrect call, as it will affect the next match (especially when they concede the wrong call was made).

    btw...

Is it true that the ref got banned? Is there a source on this? So does the AFC truly believe it WAS a penalty, because I must say - I'm not convinced it was.

In principle , Peyman Jan , I fully agree.
Practically speaking , it is virtually impossible to get the referees decision to be overturned for many reasons.

FIFA has tried or studied several solutions but nothing concrete to address the problem. I believe that 2 referees should be employed on the pitch plus the linesmen.

Hell , if Basketball has 3 referees , why 1 for football?

Faraz Jan....As for the suspensions of the referees by AFC , I think it is the figment of someones imagination. The AFC referees committee is scheduled for Next Monday and will be headed by the Vice President of AFC Yousif Al Al Serkal. The Saudi's have lodges a complaint against the Singaporean referee.

The Penalty on Ghoelamreza Rezaei...is a wishful thinking. No such penalty , no contact by UAE GK ...Rezaei just fell flat in hope of getting a call but instead it was a deserved yellow card...regrettable , but justified.

Why not getting comupters more involved with referees in Football ?
we already have them in tennis,NFL, water polo, etc,etc.............

With the helps computers and new policies FIFA can improve

        1- Off sides
2-Ball passing the goal line or not.
        3-Time,and extra time,stopage time.
4-Instant replay booth, for refrees to check ,everything in short time.like, a side judges to seat on the desk of instant replay cameras.
5-coaches can, like NFL, disbute calls for the price of loseing time outs, and if they were correct, they will not be charged.
6-Fifa can also add to the number of refrees

bahram jan, fifa in principal, is a very traditionalist and conservative organ and are very resistant to change.
.... compared to many other sports.

so while fairness and justice has been upheld much more in games like cricket with introduction of a TV review which can over-rule an umpire's call or help him make a decision, football and fifa have been very resistant to it.

it is impossible for anyone to hope for them doing anything about "during the game" events like off-side calls or outs or ... .
I doubt they'd do anything about balls crossing the goal line either.

the only thing is perhaps they can manage the matters like cards and stuff like that.

in a utopia, one would hope for them to over-turn penalties and wrong goals ( ball didnt cross ) or goals that shd have been ( ball crossed but not given ).

as I said, one must ERR ON THE SIDE OF FAIRNESS & JUSTICE, not those who benefitted from the wrong deciosions.
this is what really irks me

            Agreed.

You probably had a better view than I did as well right behind the net

Oddly enough, the UAE stations did not seem to want to show the replay

Bekhoda Fraz Jan , I really wished it was a penalty....and if the Ref did not call it , I would have spent the next few months crying and cursing the ref...
I had a very clear view.... I can't say there was a contact , let alone if that contact lead to a penalty...... I wish it was.
