You might be right but from the link Martin provided, he is an attacking right mid.

His lack of confidence in China's game with no involvement in attack made me doubt him.

I want to see more of him in in International games and then judge.
Im sure he's got more to prove. he just needs time in TM and he might be the perfect solution for this position.

        Thanks.
I agree. a defensive player ought to be attacking often enough to be able to score 4-5 goals. Lets hope at TM he gains enough confidence and assurance to display all his capabilities.
I'd say we can persist with him for 3-4 more games if we've shown to persist with an inferior choice ( not the player, who IS good at right midfield ) for 4 years!

Everytime I see Zare in that position, he doesn't look comfortable, and I feel he will give a sooti.
But Ashjari seems more comfortable and is very stable in that position(I have also seen more of ZZ games this season).

I want to see more of him during some good friendlies.
Then we can judge whether he should start against SK or not.
In Esteghalal alone , there are at least two good left footed defenders that I consider as TM material. Mehdi Amirabadi and Maysam Maneei. Also we have Ale Nemeh as another candidate.

majid khan, amirabadi is actually right footed, but he is quite comfortable on the left side as well like philip lahm (compared to iranian standards ofcourse).

Thanks..... This is why I asked whether a player HAS to be left footed to operate on the left side.

I am trying to remember the name of one of the very famous European defenders who was right footed , but was an excellent left back (Sorry , my memory is not functioning properly )

He didn't fully convince me yesterday. He was dribbled easily a few times and gave one horrific false pass in defense. Well, that still doesn't make him worse than Zare , yet this, together with his little offensive contribution shows me is not the needed leftback revelation. Still he remains the only serious alternative to Zare while I would rule out Pejman Nouri.

another solid display from him against PP.
He had a couple of decent shots but all off target, it was his freekick that resulted in ZZ's 3rd goal.

^ Yes, solid probably describes the performance best. If he would contribute more to offense he'd be my number one leftback choice at the moment. Defensively he also has his bad moments, for me he's just a leftfooted Zare with less international experience despite higher age.

He moved forward much more than in TM, however his style of playing is not a left defender as he never runs over-lap. Yet, he is the main candidate for the job in TM.

at least we have more than one option right now. Remember Zandi playing LB? or Niki? imo this was horrific.

one solid performance in IPL doesn't justify a TM spot. Ashjari still needs to improve himself. He should be a reliable LB with less Madanchi attitude

This growing competition in TM for the LB position is great.
I believe Ashjari in TM and ZZ has slightly different roles according to his coach.

Maybe it was out of Zareh's bad luck, but as soon as he got on the field agaionst China today and received his first ball, he gave a wrong pass...

That wrong pass resulted in China's goal. He also seemed way too out of shape and fat to me, I guess it was from the Moharram dinners.

Seriously though, I think Ashjari has been overall convincing, and since we saw Gholamnejad play in Saudi, then Ashjari being our LB in Tehran is not too far-fetched.

We thank and support Mr. Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to the Iranian Football Community.

ashjari was average today in my opinion...not that sattar zare was any better.
