    Fixed or afterfact of strategy?

Today's derby once again ended with a tie, and for the most part had a boring match to watch. The question that often circulates among fans is whether these matches are fixed or not.

Obviously, the players are always reminded before the match not to excite too many spectators as things can get out of control. So, usually you see less contact between them and this match was no exception. A physical sport like football need to have contacts or else of course you would take away so much from the game, particularly the mental aspect of the game by being too "careful".

But, then again the question remains if about 40-50 people from players to staff are constantly, and for each match through the years are being told to finish the game with a tie. My answer is no, and almost impossible to carry such conspiracy for so long and among so many people.

Then what happened today? The answer is Vingada's first match with Perspolis and his game plan and strategy. He changed Perspolis formation to 3-6-1 to control the midfield and particularly asked four of the midfielders to stay back, sort of 3-4-2-1. Perspolis chose this strategy simply because Esteghlal has been doing well in offense and have scored over 60 goals so far!! and that is with a goal difference of 30!

I think it was a smart move by Vingada to control this match and avoid trouble and it paid off. Perspolis controlled the match very well till a primitive mistake by Haghighi gave Esteghlal the advantage. It was only then that we could watch an entertaining match as Perspolis had nothing to lose any more and took their best defender out to send a forward (a mistake to select Rezaei but that is it's own story).

After Esteghlal goal, there was no sign of "fixation" anymore and both teams had their share of scoring opportunities, and eventually it was Perspolis that scored. Anyone questioning the fixation should also review the scene when Nourouzi and Talebloo practically sacrificed their body to score and defend after Vahedi's header. I guess a fixation would require less sacrifice than that for a score ....

Vingada was the man of the match today but if he continues with this defensive style, he will collect plenty of trouble against Iranian fans that often fantasize offensive football for defensively weak Iranian football.

I lost interest in the Tehran derby for many years now. I could
not watch it this time anyway , because I am out of country...BUT...a much as I like to dismiss the idea ( not being a fan of conspiracy theory) , I really find it difficult to accept that this derby is not being partially orchestrated.

There is far too much security issues at stake as far as the authorities are concerned. For the life of me , I can't see any man strong enough in either of the clubs to stand and say "Let us go for a win ..."

Sorry....... This derby is NOT natrual...

so i guess the only other explanation is alizadeh has the IQ of a RETARDED DONKEY...not even a mentally fit one!!

although GN subbing him in was a master act by itself...

I actually can understand why GN subbed him in.
You put a tall guy, who is quite strong in the air (not VERY strong) in the midfield to head away the ball, since the opponent is playing Ali Asghari football all season long, it can come handy. But that Ali Alizadeh has the IQ of a retarded donkey (just the way you said it) is something different.

          LOL.

I think Ghalenoei was caught by surprise in this match. What Vingada did was to put 3 defenders against his 2 forwards, and 6 midfielders against his 5 midfielders to neutralize them. It worked well in first half and Perspolis didn't seem much concern about scoring but stopping dangerous blue players. With extra players in each line, Esteghlal players did not have enough technique to pass them and that strategy surprised Ghalenoei.

In second half, he moved Borhani to right wing to take advantage of Perspolis weak left winger that was advancing too often, and was too slow to return. That eventually paid off. So, gotta give Ghalenoei credit for his half time job to spot Petrovich weakness in defense and leaving space open behind him too often. But just like last time, his sub worked against him. Both failed to stop Karimi and both led to equalizers.

This is what I posted in the thread I started after the first match this season. That time I took it as GN's faulty sub, but with this happening again, I donno what to say.

Its minute 82, now Ghotbi is making a sub, we see Petrovic coming in for Atsou, the exact opposite of what Ghalenoi did.

What happens a few mins later? PP scores after pressuring EsEs so hard since
            Esteghlal got down one striker.

Ghotbi was waiting for Ghale Noi to make a mistake, and Ghale Noi didnt disappoint him, he took out a Striker and brought in a defender so early, Ghotbi waited to see if this only will be enough for PP to score while his def line was comfy, but their pressure didnt result in anything, so now that EsEs
have only one striker, Ghotbi can easily bring in another Forward and take out a defender, which results in a goal and the equaliser.

I have no doubt there are always outside factors, but that's different from saying it was a fixed match which many are saying right now, which I blame mostly on the fact that us Iranians are very emotional ppl and if things don't go our way, we have to come up with 110 excuses to cool ourselves down.

I have no doubt that it is not fixed. It is as Mansur outs it, an afterfact of strategy.

it makes more sense to bring in a tall defender, WITH BETTER HEADING ABILITIES, and BETTER DEFENSIVE ABILITIES like hadi shakouir in, and defend, for the last 5 minutes!
or even abbasfard, who is more dominating in the air than alizadeh.

with all 10 perspolis players in esteghlals half in the last 5 minutes just crossing the ball, it makes more sense to either sub in a defender, and go all defense in the last 5 minutes, or put in a speedy or skilled forward, midfielder upfront to keep the perspolis defenders in check and maybe do somethin in counter attack or even just hold the ball upfront with good ball control and kill some time there.

alizadeh has none of these qualities!
1)his heading abilities are definitely weaker than shakouri and abbasfard both.
2)his defensive qualities are weaker than shakouri again.
3)his speed is less than any other player on esteghlals bench.
4)his ball control to be able to hold the ballupfront and kill some time is one of the weakest in the entire esteghlal squad.

i really see no reason why alizadeh of all people was subbed in.
the only way i think alizadeh should have beensubbed in was if esteghlal desperately needed a goal which wasnt the case AT ALL!

GN made 2 poor susbtitutions in the 2 derbies.
in the first derby, he brings in a 4th defender, bijan koushki (that time our 3 defenders were montazeri, shakouri and ghorbani) in the 62nd minute to hold on to a 1-0 lead!
in this derby, he doesnt sub in a defender like shakouri in the 90th minute to defend a 1-0 lead for only 5 more minutes!
thats like from 1 extreme to the other...

I think Ghalenoi still has a perspolis fixation of some sort, which he had to an extreme degree in his first years that slightly have degraded gradually in some areas but not all. He has the perfect record against Perspolis and partially can thank the first derby for sparking his coaching career at Esteghlal for. Now with time and the record he has, you'd think he'd be more relaxed and at ease with it, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it is in fact the record itself forcing the errors in judgement from him.

The game is not fixed....but it is way too much under control !!

1- the coaches are encouraged to mind the crowd.
2-The media hipe, makes all players too nervouse to play any good.
3-Some players may be approached in private, before the game, and offered money,to do things !!!
