The earlier you give up this theory the better .
Heydari > Heydari? That doesn't make sense.

5 assists and 1 goal for Heydari so far this year. And he's a right-back.

Of course, you're right, I should give up on this theory. Daei's about as blind as a bat when it comes to talent. Look what he did to Saipa. Gholamnejad, Kianoush Rahmati, Ebrahim Sadeghi, Sattar Zare? Exactly.

      Are you sure about that?
Hajsafi, Khalatbari, Gh.Rezaei, M.Noori, Aghili, Khalili, Gholamnejad.....Aren't them all new to TM and a talent of their own?

I agree heydari must be invited to TM and be given his chance in friendlies but maybe Daei feels sfe with kaebi and Gholamnejad.

Khalili has scored how many goals? 1?

Rezaei is the only quality in the above. Hajsafi is too young and isn't even being used. The rest have superior alternatives not being used. And this after Daei has tried everybody and anybody in the league - bar the most obvious choices.

Considering our goal differential is +1, I think Daei should start feeling unsafe for the sake of the team. Especially considering Rahmati has been saving our collective arses.

No. They were in TM before Daei. Both played in AC07 under GN.

Martin jan, I'm a bit amazed MYSELF .... since Mohassess' assessments were for all to see in the Navad program, the result and the manner SK scored away to KSA (near the end of the game), was for all to see, SK's traditional strength in width and flanks was for all to see, .... etc etc etc ........ AND YET, (1)WE SURRENDERED THE FLANKS TO THEM, (2) DIDNT TEST THEIR OUT OF FORM GK, (3) DIDNT TEST THEIR CENTRAL DEFENSE, (4) AND WERE TOO IGNORANT ABOUT THE LAST QUARTER OF THE GAME !!!!

This tells me, just becoz the info is out there for all to see & learn from, it does NOT mean it is either being noticed, conveyed or implemented at TM !!!!!!

so, yes, it is quite amazing !

I'd like to think they do, but if the past is any indication of whether they do or not, I'd say they don't.

Anyone remember the UAE game? Where Mattar and that other skillful midfielder ran us rugged down the middle, eventually scored, and should have scored 10 more.

Even the last game against Korea, where we decided to aimlessly give Korea the ball in the last 20 mins of the game - the time at which Korea usually dominates her opponents.

I'd really like to know how much effort in practice is spent on at least analyzing the opponent and trying to neutralize the more important players/parts of the field that our opponents might have an advantage...

at the end of the day, we are not playing against brazil, where we would not even know where to start. our opponents have a couple of areas of strength if even that, and tactically, we've been weak the past couple of games in trying to shut down the strong points of who've we've faced, even though we've faced this opposition many times and can get tapes of their games with ease.

as for the Saudi line-up, thanks to all who've contributed - i must admit, i've seen many saudi games but can't even outline their formation properly. here's to hoping our well-paid staff can.
We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

About scouting, that you go down to an opponent's strength doesn't mean you haven't scouted. I mean if Ronaldo scores against Chelsea, does that mean Chelsea didn't scout ManU well enough and didn't know about Ronaldo being dangerous?

Anyone can tell me why we shd NOT use players who arent afraid to take shots ( missing at TM ), who are TWO-footed and can cross well ( missing at TM ) and create goal scoring opportunities with either left or right foot?

Doesnt it defy logic that we have such players and only due to lajbaazi we refuse to use them at TM, when these are what's missing in the team's games?
( these are just a few clips of many, that you'd find on them on youtube )

                  1- Both SHOOT very well
2- Both are very good in SET PIECES
3- Both can CROSS very well
                  4- Mobaali is a PLAYMAKER & a leader
5- Kazemian is a good GOAL SCORER

All the 5 items that are MISSING IN TM !

Unfortunately, neither is above 35 years of age, though !! big minus against them !

I assume this was a rhetorical question, but the answer to me is very simple: Because being two-footed and shooting a lot are only two of dozens of necessary abilities and if you underperform in most of the other departments (which you don't think they do, but I think they do), such players rightfully still won't be selected.

                        ^ true.

if you underperform in passing ( like bagheri, sadeghi, ando, ... ) then you ought to sit out.

if you under-perform in crossing ( like shojaei, khalatbari, g-nejad, ... ) then you ought to be benched.

if you under-perform in your defending duties ( like shojaei, khalatbari, ... ) then you ought to be sitting on the bench.

on the other hand, if you SHOOT WELL, PASS WELL, CROSS WELL, CONDUCT & LEAD A TEAM WELL ... and then, also, have the icing of the cake; TAKE GREAT SET PIECES , then you OUGHT TO be at least in the final 18.

                        any objections?

( unless by "other duties" you mean following the god-given rule of "never, EVER, tackle ali daei, no matter what. no matter if your team's duties require it even".
then, you may be right )

                        ----------------

and while we're at it, just following YOUR line of thought, I was wondering if you would say the same to .... saaaayyy shojaei.
what does he DO? really ?
                        shoots well ? hell no.
defends well ? heh. dont make me laugh.
                        How'bout crossing ? LOL.
then what about his corners and free kicks? double LOL .

oh, oh ...but he "dribbles" ....... a LOT !
But how much of it is in service of the team?

so going by YOUR rule, shall we ask shojaei to sit tight in spain and not bother about TM until he sorts out his crossing, defending and shooting lacks?

and that's only ONE of the usual starters.
shall we go over each and every favorite player ?

                        -----------------------

and again, on the other hand.

should we forget TOP INTERNATIONAL teams pick certain players solely ... I repeat, SOLELY based on their "shooting ability" or "freekick taking" ?
germany had that fellow, Hitzlsperger ( if I remember correctly ) , who all he showed was fantastic shots and long rangers with little else.
Yugoslavia ( & lazio ) had Mihailovic for his set pieces, with little else to offer.
                        and so many other examples.

( so forgive me if I find it ridiculous that we happen to have BOTH the above characteristics in ONE player - two-in-one if you may - plus much more ... and some of us still want to resist it !!! why? just becoz Daei doesnt like them!!!!!!!! and that happens to be "gospel" !!! )

agha jan, I know we must twist and turn and somehow say something in defense of ppl we like. But we cant have double standards in this. and we cant have UNCONDITIONAL support for anyone but TM. NO other individual.

My dear martin.and DD e aziz....I could n't help reading your exchanges, and wanted to inject a little point here.....

I hope you agree with me that the most important quality of a player,is how smart and intelegent he may be.....and I would think of quantifing his two dozen abilities later....
If a player, realizes, what is best to do at any moment...be it crosssing, waiting, going back, short or long passes, advancing solo,or dribling,etc,etc....even if he is not so good at those qualities........

If a player, can have fast decision makeing, and makeing the right decisions..is what matters the best !...his vision, and how the game should develope, and cognition of the situation and ,understanding the ergencies,etc,etc.....

ofcourse, football intelect,is what we are missing the most in our football...and that is why most our talents, get waisted before even florishing.

Iran tends to fade in the last 25 minutes of each half.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

For those who still may think a draw at ksa is "not the end of the road" or those others who , like taaj, keep on touting "we're undefeated" crap like a mantra, let me remind them of the last 3 games' schedule:

                              Skorea -
                              6/6/ - away
                              10/6 - home
                              17/6 - home
so they dont have to travel all that much. considering they're sure to win at UAE ( something that we failed to do unlike EVERYONE ELSE ), even their away game is not tough and taxing! and once they come home, they REMAIN home.

                              N Korea -
                              6/6 - home
                              10/6 - REST
                              17/6 - away
The rest in between allows for recuperation and easy travel so they have TWO games in 11 days

                              KSA -
                              6/6 - REST
                              10/6 - away
                              17/6 - home
they have only 1 away game for which they can travel well in advance and be fit & ready. again, only TWO games in 11 days.

                              Iran-
                              6/6 - away
                              10/6 - home
                              17/6 - away

notice within 11 days we have THREE GAMES, wherein we go the to extreme east of asia, play a DO OR DIE game
.... then come back to Iran, which takes at least 1 whole day
.... and in 3 days we have to play another DO OR DIE game against a WELL RESTED UAE ( they dont have a game on 6/6 ) with all the typical arab peripheral action to be expected
.... then, travel for another whole day to the extreme east of asia, again
.... and in 5 days, play the group's toughest team !!!!!!!

so no need to pat ppl on the back yet. they ought to feel the stress and be more serious about matters. the garbage that taj and others say about "being undefeated" means crap.
we could still be "undefeated" and end up as the LAST freaking team in the table ! who'd be happy about being "undefeated" then?

now, a look at the other group, shows japan in a situation like us.
BUT the difference is they are 4 points ahead of their nearest rival below them and they wouldnt be ending up as third team anyway.

Now, who's happy or content with the 2 points dropped at UAE and another 2 points dropped in azadi ?
                              anyone?

The reason I laid out the schedule was to point out why daei's attitude towards the korea game was absolutely disastrous.

With this schedule, Japan has already put some distance between themselves and their lower teams, allowing for some fatigue and unexpected turn of events. So they played aggressively in these games they've played so far, all games set apart, and collected points , preparing for any eventualities.

the brainless defensive line up and formation in the HOME game against korea REEKS of inexperience, lack of foresight and downright incompetence on everyone's part who dont see more than a meter in front of their noses ... apparently!

do they have a plan for the final 3 games?
are they even aware of the magnitude of difficulties in that period, be it the strength of opposition, the importance & therefore the stress of the games and the travel involved ?

for example, is he planning to drag a 37 year old bagheri through transcontinental , whole-day flights ... 4 times in a matter of 10-11 days ?
isnt it wiser to start using a better, younger player who can start fitting into the team?

does the staff have any specific ( at this point, you cant have a vague, general one ... no thanks to the dropped points! ) strategy in using different line ups for these 3 games?
Like resting ( or sending ahead to korea ) a couple of players for the 10/6 UAE game ?
But with dropped points, one cant miss having the influential players for the do or die UAE game, can one? and resting inconsequential players doesnt even make sense !!

and other matters that really needed to be thought about much before today ... starting from the day we got the bloody illogical schedule of games : Did anyone in Iran ( TM staff or IFF or ... ) try to do anything about it?
I remember we made a separate thread on it and in fact suggested a deal ( through AFC ) be struck with NORTH KOREA about switching the home/away games. Did anyone act on it?
