Next, I question the total insanity of using a SHORT Point #2START NEEDED TO SCORE GOALS and not merely defend or keep the stalemate (point #3 in the list).

3- Lack of creativity (point #4 ) was the most apparent in the middle for us. Could it be because instead of using a PLAYMAKER in the middle, we FEARFULLY & WIMPISHLYFREELY Point #5 in the list).

So we had sacrificed the spot of a PLAYMAKER for kazemi and what did he achieve for us in the whole 96 minutes? Next to nothing! Certainly nothing in our offense!

4- The LEFT side of midfield.
Time & again, we saw Khalatbari be aman-e khodaPoint #6 .
We also knew (if we were dumb enough not to notice his usual playing style) at least from his Kuwait game, that Khalatbari would perform far better in the CENTER Point #7 NAMESfitting as many famous players as possibleWEAKEST player in the team ( and the irony lies here, my friends) : Shojaei.
Yes, Shojaei.
Apart from his goal (which looked to be off a slight deflection of a Saudi defender) he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THE WHOLE 96 MINUTES !!!
His first 45 minutes was so disastrous that ANY coach would have subbed him at halftime.
He was not even a ZERO in the first half! The goal helped his image a little, but then it was back to being absolute ZERO & and a drain on the team with his mindless dribbling ( point #8 point #9) and gave a new dimension to our left flank with his crosses and shots.

SECOND HALF

6- TM’s lack of playmaker continued with its hardambili/ali-asghari game which never looked in control of the game properly. And most forward moves were either individualistic or emotional rather than resembling a rehearsed set of moves!
Nothing new as Daei’s team has shown this in ALL its games!

7- What shocked me was how the Saudi central mids found each other SO EASILY and effortlessly … INSPITE of us having not one, but TWO def-mids! Says a lot about why this crummy 4-2-3-1 formation does not suit us & our players ( point #10 talked ad nauseum!)

8- Once we scored the team pulled back and didn’t put much effort in its forward moves (however hardambili they were) anymore!
One would think after COUNTLESS lessons like the Nkorea and Skorea games we’d learn not to surrender the pitch so soon by pulling back so early!
What was the staff doing at this time, btw?
This was the exact copy of Skorea scenario of us scoring and losing all guts and spine, pull back and surrender the middle and finally get our just reward by conceding (point #11)!

9- On the second goal, we did NOT have a guy guarding the second post.
Why is that?
Why don’t we put another man there … since we seem to be so USELESS on corners and freekicks? Saudis had 4-5 dangerous opportunities with their headers off these corners and set pieces with each time our defenders showing INABILITY to head the first ball !
So if you look so suspect on corners to allow FREE headers, why don’t you think of bolstering other areas like covering BOTH posts ?
It was insane!

10- Daei’s absolute lack of spine & guts, plus his destructive lajbaazi and irrational selection (and using the same back up staff ! ) brought up memories of another disgusting WIMP : Branko ( Not to mention LOSING in AZADI after a looong time!)
In this game, ONE MORE issue was added to the list: his brain-freeze in stressful situations ( PROVING his lack of readiness to take the helm of an International team. Point #12 ) by forgetting he has a THIRD substitution also!!!!

Perhaps a third substitution after saudi’s first goal could have brought us back to the game and maybe with the right player, we could have scored. We cant be guaranteed of scoring the goal, but if we DON’T TRY, we’ll never know. As they say “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”!

What was Daei thinking after saudi’s 1st goal?
Was he happy with the draw?
His insistence on the SINGLE-FORWARD96 minutes with just ONE striker. As if we were 5 goals ahead and didn’t need to score any more!!!!!!!
And with strikers who haven’t scored goals in a loooonng time or hardly against quality teams!! While the league’s TOP scorer (however low quality he may be, he’s still in better FORM than Rezaei. Point #13) isnt even called to the squad!!!!
Anyone who defends Daei want to explain this to me?

So we had a game go to minute 96 with a single forward and not using our third sub?
“clap clap”! great coaching! Shows great “European experience”!!!!

11- As expected, we just cannot rely on being lucky and STAYING lucky.
Note to those who diligently defend sub-par games and countless lucky escapes and think we’ll ride out the whole WCQ’s with this luck!!


Finally as the saying goes, “if you don’t score, you WILL concede” and “If you go for a draw, you are BOUND to lose”!
And this game showed we just didn’t want to score and were happy with a draw!

I think, as usual, the fear came after taking the lead. I really don't get it, but it's always like that. After conceding the equalizer it was unlikely we'd find back into the game and this time we were punished severely.

My friend, the fear came through from the moment Daei chose the formation, the choice of the striker, the decision to ignore the role of a playmaker , .... etc. ... which is WAY BEFORE the game even started !!!!!

No, that worked ok and we went in front against an Asian top team.

Then, as usual, we shat in our pants or thought we are Italy of 82' to easily defend a one-goal-lead.

Daie should step down immediately. Our chances of directly qualifying now are very small, so let's try to focus on the play-off spots. There is no room for any error any longer. Aside from this, the Arabs will be bragging about this result for years to come, having defeated Iran in Azadi. Very truly tragic.
