What to expect from now on?

What shd be our expectations, aside from our desires, now that we are about to find the face of our new coach, and subsequently, the squad and the further 3 crucial games?

First of all with all the names flying around ( knowing IFF, half of them pure rumors and spec's than anything truthful ) I'd like to say the Denizli-Ghotbi combo sounds magnificent. we get the needed experience, attacking football, knowledge of Iranian football and its players, knowledge of korean football, .... etc. ( ... apart from orgasmic pp fans who'd be jizzing their pants for 4 days after it is announced )
this sounds just too good to be true. and with Iran, it usually WILL be too good to be true!!!

now that I got that off my chest, to the expectations:

1- I dont expect wholesale changes in the squad.
not that the current squad is perfect. no, coz there are a few who dont deserve to be in it and a few who do but are not there.

I say this becoz anyone who comes in has so little time to make major changes in anything. so I expect something like 2-3 personnel changes at best.
I'd say addition of a couple of playmakers is the MOST VITAL step anyone can take. be it karimi, jabbari, mobaali, ... I dont care. as long as the team has someone who is creative.

I think maybe 1 or 2 more eliminations-additions would do the job.
I also think some lesser important areas like the "alternatives for the main players" will not be looked into due to lack of time and having only 3 games to consider.
So the coach will NOT waste his time on the bench players and will concentrate on his STARTING LINE UP choices wholly.

so dont expect to see a lot of new names.

    ------------------------

2- I wont expect drastic changes in the team's movement and tactics. again due to lack of time.
But I totally expect to see a new mentality, motivation & drive among the players.
    this is imperative.

    ------------------------

3- Depending on who the coach is, I guess we'll see changes in the formation and style of football (borne out of the choice of players & their nature) in the team, and I'm hoping to God it is an offensive one.

anything else you guys want to add?

Denizli-Ghotbi combo is the most naive idea in years. This is ridiculous.

As I already explained in the Football Forum, two coaches who were and attempt to be headcoach can't be a realistic or successful combo.

First of all, noone seeing himself as headcoach would agree to serve as assistant.

Secondly, if for any strange reasons this would happen, two coaches with their very own ideas would certainly clash sooner or later.

This is like thinking Ferguson and Mourinho would be a realistic and successful coaching duo.

actually, maybe the Den/Gho combination isn't realistic, but a combination of a good foreign (Experienced) coach, assisted by an Iranian is the only right solution.

I must agree that their is too less time to use a foreign coach without any knowledge of our soccer. At the same time, i don't think its wise to bring in an ex- TM coach, Iranian or foreign. And last but not least; there is not one hamvatani who is capable of doing the job for us.
So at the end, the only way to go is ; Foreign coach + Iranian Assistent.

bring in the big $$$$ and sign a experienced foreign coach who at least has Asian experience and give him an Iranian assistent who can be trusted.
Iran deserves better, TM deserves better.

^ Yes, undoubtedly a foreigner will need an Iranian assistant.

But he will chose his own assistant, he can't be ordered to take one.

IFF can only propose and introduce Iranian coaches they think are appropriate. But many, like the "big names" considered as headcoach themselves currently, surely aren't available as assistants. That includes Ghotbi of course.

And it wouldn't work either. 2 headcoaches are 1 too many.

hehehehe ... dadash, no matter how many times you rush head first to force the word "naive" into your replies, to just antagonize for the sake of antagonism !!! .... it's only reflecting on you.
maybe reading ppl's post properly and pausing to digest what they're saying could help your plight.

1- given our desperate situation and need for all 3 points, I believe NKorea may opt for a defensive-counterattacking game. coz even if it is a draw, they gain far more than us and it wouldnt be such a bad result for them!

they've shown their players suit counterattacking much more than all-out assault.

so whoever the coach is, we shd be ready for a closed formation, with speedy wingers or forwards by NKorea. and we shd treat this as one of those games we need to open a tight, numerous defensive line.

and naturally, width plays an important role here.
our taller strikers like VH or Niki ( if invited ) or even salehi can make headway, to take advantage of our height.

for this, we need good wide players who can pull the side defenders away from the central cluster, and be able to cross to our forwards.

and SHOOTING shd be one of the main areas of concentration in preparations.

based on our needs and the expected nature of opponent's game, I think:

1- players like Haydari, kia, ashjari, Madanchi, to provide the width and crossing to our forwards, from right & left.

2- a good playmaker who can use the gaps created by wingers, to pass to our forwards and create danger

3- VH and I really hope Niki can be extremely effective

4- Shd nekunam play, we have to make maximum use of our set pieces with him, aghili, VH, Niki, hosseini, ... for their heading ability

5- shooting has to be demanded time and again.
in a clustered defense line, a shot can ricochet anywhere and go in. if we dont use this venue, we will be under-utilizing our potential. guys like nekunam, kia, madanchi, ... have shown to be good shots and HAVE TO keep on trying it out, even if a few shots go astray.
we HAVE TO see at least 7-8 long range attempts in this game.

I see absolutely no use for shojaei in this game ( digeh az chesham oftadeh !).
khalatbari would suit our needs 10 times better.
I really hope this is considered by the staff.

TM to have 3 test games before the Nkorea match.
              so far so good.

2 of those games are against Vietnam and china. ( the first team is unknown )
              so far, even better.

              but here's what worries me.

considering that on 16th of khordad we have the NKorea game, here is the schedule for these 3 friendlies:
1- 3rd of khordad -------- 1st test game in Tehran
2- 6th of khordad -------- travel to Vietnam
3- 8th of khordad -------- Vietnam test game
4- XXXXX --------------- travel to china
5- 11th of khordad ------- China test game
6- XXXXX ---------------- travel to Nkorea
7- 16th of khordad ------- NKorea game WCQ
8- XXXXX ---------------- travel back to Tehran
9- 20th of khordad ------- UAE game WCQ

Am I the only one thinking we're pushing the players a bit too far, physically .... mere days before the absolute "do or die" NKorea game?

with this much travel and 3 games in close succession, arent their bodies going to be fatigued?

are 4 days enough for the players to recuperate from airport hopping, hotel-hopping and TWO 90 minute games ??

are they going to be in top PHYSICAL shape against a QUICK pacey team, where you HAVE TO be in tip-top shape?

I'm no physical trainer, but somehow it doesnt seem right to me!!

is IFF more bothered about getting friendlies just for the sake of saying "we got friendlies" ??? or are they keeping the physical condition of the team in mind also?

this is slowly turning out to be a very scary preamble to the big game !!!

Hm, the Vietnam match might be a little too much.

Anyway, I checked the league schedules and Teymourian will be ready to join TM after May 2nd, Zandi has still 4 rounds to play so he should be free in 4 weeks, namely May 2nd, as well.

German Bundesliga will finish on May 23rd, so Mahdavikia and Hashemian will be free to join almost 2 weeks ahead of the North Korea game as well.

Only Spanish league will play the last round on Sunday, May 31st, just 6 days ahead of the game. While Nekounam is suspended anyway, Shojaei will miss most of the preperations, plus the trip to Vietnam and the game in China, if I calculated correctly. Khordad 3 should be May 24th.

Edit: Last round of UAE League will also be on May 23rd.

                  Thanks martin.

We may need Ando to be ready and fit to replace Nekunam in the team.

Zandi's participation is highly dependent on the coach we get !!

VH and Kia according to this schedule shd be available then. so are the uae players.

as for shojaei, I think we can do perfectly fine without him. until he learns to play more FOR THE TEAM .

                  --------------

on the home front, I REALLY hope khalili gets into his stride and form.
we need every forward we can get and if he gets back to form, I say he shd be called and tried.

I also hope they make an exception in Niki's case and reinstate him ( bebin che badbakht shodim !!! be koja resoondanemoon inhaaa!!! )

I just came across bagheri's comment about being ready for TM.

personally, I dont think we really need him. He is a great player, but we have pretty effective players in his post who are younger and more energetic than him.

but the 3 games' schedule is a unique situation and we may need to think outside the box.

what's positive is that there will be a batch of players available to TM ( that were in daei's black list ) which opens up the options for us.
with the addition in numbers of prospects, division of forces can be one way to combat the travel-fatigue of the schedule.

for example, Nekunam is suspended for NKorea game.
there's absolutely no need to drag him to the east and he can be FRESH for the uae game and the latter SKorea game.

The quick NKoreans may be too much for Bagheri and he may prove to be ineffective against their pace, in an away game. But he may be a useful sub for the UAE game or even a starter for the SKorea game if he's rested for the uae one.

Karimi may be useful against Nkoreans or UAE. MK can pick either of these 2 games to use him in.

having both borhani and rezaei as our pacey forwards can be benefit in keeping one ( I'd say rezaei ) back in tehran for the uae game and take borhani to NKorea

if kazemian gets invited, he can provide a good alternative for Kia in the uae game ( where he knows those guys and has proven to be quite successful against them ) while Kia is used in NKorea and perhaps stays put in the east for the SKorea game.

and so on & so forth.

this division of labor can effectively nullify the effects of travel-fatigue or match-fatigue among many posts in TM and we could be almost at our maximum in each & every game.

since I am not a believer of miracles and I believe in the old saying:

HAR CHEGHADR POOL BEDI, ASH MIKHORI

I believe with our incompetent federation, and our incompetent coach, we WILL NOT qualify us to the world cup.

And I am willing to place a bet on it.

I believe our chances of making it to the WC have neither increased nor decreased with MK, or whomever that would have taken over , (or even if Daie had stayed on)..

Our next game is not a game you can coach.. one of those games that is not about coaching, it's about who wants it more.

This is not a game between us and some European giant.. We KNEW that against Ireland there really isn't much hope.. or Australia after going down 2-0.. those needed miracles..

this next game needs no miracle , just heart and "go getters"..

get the players ready, physically and mentally, and we'll be fine.

After reading Human's interview I must say I now even feel more pessimistic about the future of our football.

Daei did the right thing trying a slow introduction of a new generation. In order to do that you need a leadership strong enough not to panic when setbacks occur.

They, especially considering they had no options but domestic dinosaurs of coaching, made a mistake releasing Daei at that point.

                              So
                              - either this change doesn't have immediate effect and we fail to qualify. Learning effect will be almost zero, Daei will be blamed mostly and worse than that after a weaker AC and a weak WCQ we will be pretty bad seeded the for the next competitions, or
                              - we somehow qualify and we will have to live with this kind of policy in future. Whenever we have someone trying to introduce new players before the older stars are alread 35 and the public demands their replacement, at the moment the results are not satisfying we will again get idiotic solutions like we got now.
