    Yade Branko Bekheir

Iran have qualified to the Word Cup three times. They only time we did qualify directly without any AMMA and AGAR and pretty comfortable was when Branko was head coach. Of course we had a good team then but we had much better team if not the best team ever back in 2002 which we didnt qualify. We had a excellent team back in 1998 but were the last team to qualify thanks to one player. Also back in 1978 we had a excellent team with players such Parvin, Hejazi, etc.... also back then, we couldnt qualify directly but need a play-off with Australia.

    That's why i miss Branko.

    یاد برانکو به خیر

بعد از باخت مقابل عربستان خیلی ها به یاد سرمربی سابق ایران افتاده بودند که ایران را به راحتی تمام به جام جهانی برد..

    small correction!

back then no team from Asia could qualify directly. We had to play the play offs... which means in turn we did qualify the way that was meant to be.

in WC1978 only one Asian team could participate in WC, and that was the three time in a row Asian Champian, and Asian Games Winner = Iran.

    also Yadeh oon doran bekheyr!

Undoubtedly our qualification task was much easier back then.

On the other hand 4 points against Bahrain, 6 points against North Korea and a home victory over Japan are nothing one can diminish to an "easy" route.

And I still say, if it had mattered, we wouldn't have lost in Japan. But that is pure speculation.

exactly... Heshmat Mohajeranis qualification was the most difficult one... ONLY ONE team from Asia could qualify after a long marathon of games + winning versus Oceana/Australia... That team realy deserved the WC78...

that has to be also mentioned

Branko has been vindicated, in a sense. The results of TM after he left(contrasting with his reign) and especially Branko's own achievements post-Iran provide some perspective in assessing his tenure as Coach of Iran.

              It's a shame Troussier isn't coming.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

during Branko days we played an organized football in Asia. There were clear strategies, nevermind them to be too defensive orientated, but what counts we DID have startegies and played a logical football.
We did 3rd in the Asian Cup but we all know the story of half-finals versus China. We could have been Asian champions. We did win the Asian Games 2002 under Branko, and we qualified to WC06.
surely, he did better than anybody-else at that time.

What bothered me most though was the un-conditional free flyer spot in the TM for Ali Daei, no matter in which physical condition he was!
Everybody remembers, they even wanted to invite Daei for 2002 Asian Games (a tournament for the youth, but in last minute Daei's father passed away, may he RIP, and Daei did not participate and we won the Gold medal WITHOUT Daei).

and the non understandable catastrophy was that during WC 06 - we had to play with one forward AND cause of it Vahid Hashemian had to play in midfiled, so that Ali Daei could play single forward!!!

That unconditional spot for Ali Daei in the team was IMO the ONE and ONLY mistake Barnko did or had to do (who knows maybe IFF had a role in it....)

In any case overall Branko DID DO WELL with TM during his 5 years.

1- I didnt make this thread
besides, I didnt twist the truth also
these situations are so different we could write a few pages on their differences ! and yet ...... !

2- well, I hold him responsible for "missed opportunities" on a great stage when we HAD the potential to do much more

                      3- na bekhoda.
we'd have got the VERY SAME 6 points off the 5 games under him !!!
at least Daei brought some new faces among whom a few proved to be extremely useful ( khalatbari, ashjari, ... ). that wimp wouldnt have done even that!

4- absolutely. ensaf is a good thing. I fail to see how that is relevant here though
