    Football NOT matter anymore!!!!

It's sad news but it's true. In Iran, football does not matter anymore. People do not care about it. You won't see empty streets in TM matches. You don't see people talk about it in the street.

The whole situation is sinking. Media, TV, Players, coaches, officials, fans,... they all did their part to undermine the beautiful game.
It took me a trip to Iran, seeing everything on my own and compare it with 4 years ago, to realise that NO ONE CARES.

    Cheers,

well, it's sad and quite frankly, typical of our people.

we love to ride the wave when its high, but once in shallow waters, we jump ship.

i, for one, will never stop following our football. and as disappointed and saddened i am currently at the level of play we exhibit, i still get shivers every time TM walks on the pitch.

we are not brazil to expect to make the world cup every 4 years, and it's basically 'haminee keh hast'.

you're either a fan or a bandwagon fan, and bandwagon fans are no fans in my book.
We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

although a combination of things help this situation, but I really believe that the bull crap that people have been seeing and hearing over and over has really turned them off..

Iranian people are tired of "manam manam" that our heroes and zeros play.. It's not the losses or the failures in tournaments or games.. it's the bullsh*t that our so called "bozorgtarah" keep feeding our people and they way the "system" treats them..

people are just tired of so many things in that country..

          Thanks guys for the input.

As I mentioned briefly (maybe too brief), the blame side is almost every where. No one is immune. From the fans who cheer and swear the same person in a matter of 10 minutes, to Media who are corrupted all, to players who see themselves puffy, Persian Gulf Arab Leagues which over-rate our talents, our over-paid players, coaches, ..., our governmental football, our un-challenged system and management, ...... to globalization and easy access to top football games in the world....

Whatever it is, our people do not care. Don't see a core of hard-fans here in our little corner as the majority of Iranians. We love it, because we are crazy.

          Cheers

apart from football related impacts mentioned in above posts, I must add there are other factors involved as well.

economy is in a downward spiral and with it, ppl's attention and vulnerable budget gets diverted to more REAL matters like daily life and struggles.
a Taxi guy's answer to my inquiry about what TM did in some game ( a couple of years ago ) was "agha jan, who cares about TM or Mr.X or Mr. Y in the midst of our struggle to put bread in front of our kids in the nights? those ppl earn their millions and the rest of us have to work 3 jobs to make ends meet, with no time to spend on whimsical matters like football or sports!!!"

I found it very true , but sad at the same time.

so imagine those kids who save and save for weeks or months to attend a game in azadi ( as their only legal source of fun ) ..... just to be greeted with failure !!!!

but, wanting to end on a hopeful note, imagine if haji somehow manages to get 6-7 points in the next 3 games and we qualify.
I am pretty sure we would see mass celebrations in the streets again.
( as long as he doesnt start with sadeghi in the line up .... which brings me to another name that we may yet see at TM ... although a few years late: Omid Sharifinasab )

ever since the 06 world cup our fans have been losing interest in TM, not football.
many of them are still following european leagues, not don't care much for TM and iran's league anymore.
you can just visit persian forums with people inside of iran to realize its not the same anymore.

I believe ,this fact could be called : " Football Depression " !

same thing, with our poletical activitiy !, and the same reason, people have lost interest to be poletical ! in Iran.....
When people see, the opposit of thier wishes keep happeneing and they can not help it, repeatedly, such depression will happen.....

I read some where, the main reason for any depression is :

" When, one needs ,despreatly, to do something, ..and understands ,that there is no way to do it........he will be depressed "

Their only legal source of fun? I didn't know the only other things in this world that are enjoyable are alcohol and partying?

The rest of your post was very perceptive, but it really irks me to see that written.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

I have been saying this for years. In Iran , the youngsters do not have the same enthusiasm about football and team melli as I experience in PFDC or the cyberspace in general.

                    BUT...why is this sad ?????

People have their own interest and there is nothing in the world that should force people to be football fans......In Iran , there are hundreds of others activities that the youth can choose to engage in , sport & football is just one of those and by no means the only source of entertainment (then again , I can not really categorize Iran's football as entertainment ...)

I agree with majid on comparing the iranian expats with those inside Iran on their enthusiasm in football.

I think those of us living outside Iran have tried to keep some links & bonds to the motherland strong by making them more important than perhaps necessary.

ppl tend to form and guard these links they form. now it may be through music, arts, books& literature or just plain football/sports. something to maintain a dose of motherland in the daily life. who knows if all of us were living in Iran, many wouldnt even waste a minute on forums & posting on football or ... etc!

                        Which raises an interesting point...

I wonder what percentage of Iranians living in Iran frequent/post or are members of PFDC compared to expat Iranians or Persians (or Ajams)

It will probably shed some light on the subject...

I know of only very few:

hadi , who until recently was in tehran.
masoud who's supposedly in isfahan ( but then, he cant be trusted )
and maybe a couple of other guys.
                          that's about it.

compared to the other 7000-8000 expat members !

then we have guys like urself, who are just a hop & skip away from the shores and are almost IN Iran, given the amount & ease of interaction, travel, ... .
