hmmm ... I think we have travel to a galaxy far far away .... to 2004 AC's SKorea and Bahrain games.

that was the LAST time I saw TM play good ( not great and certainly not to its potential ) football. even the japan game in tehran ( despite the favorable result ) had plenty to point at.

something broke after AC2004. something happened and changed everything!

but soeaking of thrilling, I must copy/paste what I wrote in hamid's thread :

I say : marg, yek bar. shivan ham yek bar

we go in with a totally energetic line up instead of the slow aging one. you still have a mix of experience and energy in it and is not as imbalanced as ghotbi's.

    kaabi ..... hosseini ...... nosrati ......... nouri

    haydari ...... karimi ...... nekunam ... madanchi

    ......... kazemian ...... khalatbari ...........

if we keep the ball on the ground, with two above forwards with their ball skills can penetrate their wall easier than just trying high balls

I doubt VH would get much headway coz korean defenders are as tall as him and they have shown to be quite adept in marking him and on aerial balls.
VH may be useful near the end of the game, especially with his jumps and heading, with tiring korean defenders from tracking our two energetic forwards for 60-70 minutes.

we have almost never tried having 2 speedy forwards who would run the defense ragged to prepare them ( or marinate them for kabab ) for a physical and high-jumping VH near the end.

note:- in case some bring up daei's idea, I must remind them we had only ONE shortie who didnt cause much trouble for ksa defenders. having TWO technically sound forwards against korean defenders who are NOT that used to skillful ball players is a totally different thing.

For a team that is fighting for survival in a series of three of the most crucial matches in its history, the team lacked skills , discipline , guts and tactics.

It eventually took a moment of brilliance by an aging and vividly arduous Ali Karimi to win the match. I suppose we have to pray for a similar occurrence in a week's time while facing Korea Republic in the penultimate match.

I can't remember Team Melli being so erratic so full of errors and so bad for a loooong time.

      God help us.
I think TM is now acting like West Germany in the 1980's, just barely managing to get through each time.

well, to be fair uae were defending with 11 players, not giving anyspace
and we played with one solo striker
