    One of the few positives in Iranian football.

    The crowd during the Teraktor Sazi - Esteghlal game. The amount of people there was great to see. It was also refreshing to see most of them cheering for the home squad instead of Esteghlal.

    Tabriz has been sorely missed in Iranian football. I haven't been (and haven't wanted to) watch more than 15 minutes of football after the ridemoon bazi that we saw from TM, but just seeing a full stadium in Iran for a game besides the Tehran derby made me happy.

    Also the stadium itself didn't look too bad. I remember in 2002 TM played some games in this same stadium and the team was well supported. TM should have been playing winter games in that stadium especially against Arab teams where cold weather would have hurt their play.

    In other news, Naghshe Jahan stadium will probably not be completed by the end of this Persian new year either. The reason I say this is because from Tabriz we can see that a good stadium (and decent game) can help draw people to the stadium.

      Do we have any old timer from Tabriz that can tell us during the Takhte Jamshid cup (Iranian top league during former regime) was the situation (full Teraktor or Mashine Sazi fans) when former Taj or PP went to Tabriz?

      I agree that it is a good thing for Iranian football. However, I think there is more into this than mere football maybe (i.e. Azari Nationalism) that has been supressed for more than 60 years by central governments and find a way to express its way through football. I also heard Azarbaijanis (a lot of them) on a certain day go and visit the ruins of Babak's fortress (since he fought Islamist occupiers).

        I highly doubt that. This is more because its been 8 years since Azerbaijan has had a representative in the top level of Iranian football. There was a time we had 2 or 3 Azeri teams in the top league but that has al changed. Azeris have always been big fans of football, so it doesn't surprise me that such a crowd showed up.
        When TM showed up to play in Tabriz the stadium was full and I don't think that had anything to do with Azeri nationalism.

          The official capacity of the stadium is 72,000 fans , but like always there is and never was a decent counter for the fans entering in the stadium. So , in reality it is anybody's guess how many bodies are there.

          It always amazes me when I watch the English premiere league and around half time , the loudspeaker announces the number of attendance in the stadium like 63,102 and these accurate numbers has been announced ever since I was living in England over 30 years ago!

          Nevertheless , it is so pleasing to see the crowds in Tabriz. Breath of fresh air in a polluted Iranian football.

            Hope you are right Nokhodi Jaan. I really hope so. Last thing I want to see is Iran stiffed with racial issues.

              I personaly doubt,we would have had this much fans to go to stediums in IRAN, had we had more freedom,and more open society.....
              There is absolutly nothing for the youth to do in IRAN.....a few,well to do,under ground funs do not count, and masses in general,niether have beach to go to,nor most other fun activities other countries may have....
              Discos !, Beaches !, Concerts !, out door fun, girl friend/Boy friends activities, Open and free parks ! , Parades !, Resuratnts !,...etc,etc.....
              While, very limited controled activities may be possible, but defenetly not enough for 70 million population,whose 70% supposedly is under 30 years of age....

                England, France, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Italy... all have those things and people continue to pour in to stadiums for good football. Theoretically without IR our football should improve and that would allow for more fans to come in.
                Although what you are saying does apply, especially in Shahrestans where the opportunities for entertainments are even less than Tehran.

                    That would require them to have their own stadiums, or some sort of sharing plan, but as all of us know, Esteghlal and Persepolis like to spend millions on players that will never play instead of buying a simple training field.

                      Two Requests:

                      Can I request any of the old timers (newtimers For that matter who have access to oldtimers to ask them)who are from Tabriz, happen to be in Tabriz, or for some reason were able to watch Teraktor or Machine Sazi games during the Takhte Jamshid cup, was the fans ratio the same?

                      How do they enforce the 10% quota for SS fans (or any guest fans for that matter) in away games in Iran. For example let's say I am a blue fan and wanted to watch the game and my ticket wasn't in the SS fans section. Then I am not allowed or for that matter bullied by the presense of other teams fans to be quiet (or take the risk of getting beaten up)?

                      I am not trying to be argumenteative, I am just trying to understand first the supposition the 90% of the fans were all Teraktor fans or certain percentage (albeit much less than Teraktor fans), were silent SS fans.

                      2- If there was a percendence of this (90% plus percentage of fans) support their own local team in Tabriz (which I accept and love to see people support their own local team). That is why, it is crucial to know during Takhte Jamshid cup was the situation the same (fans wise)?
