    Iran - Iceland postmatch

For me it was a very good performance from our boys.

The only thing I was not satisfied about, was the finishing.

But I think we saw a strong defense and a creative offense, with many good and fast combinations. With the addition of Nekounam and Shojaei, I don't think we will have much trouble with Jordan.

    What do you think?

Me too, but we are probably just so desperate for good new players, that we have too high hopes and expectations.

He doesn't seem to have the physique to be a classic target striker. If wikipedia is correct, he is only 1.75 meters tall.

If he, however, shows the goal instict he showed in that scene again in the upcoming games, TM's future might look a bit brighter.

I must say apart from Borhani I wasn't disappointed by any Iranian player yesterday. The team Iceland sent surely wasn't that much of a test, so it's hard to judge if eg. Hajsafi or Beikzadeh are really good fullbacks (they barely had anything to do in defense), but still it finally was a performance which positively surprised me.

So either they were good or my expectations finally reached such a low that the performance could only be better.

        first half:

1- stupd line up and roster

2- stupid decision to put beikzadeh as RB

3- pathetic performance as a team

        4- pisspoor weak opposition

5- no creativity in the midfield as we have nouri and ando ( both more defensive minded mids ) in the middle. no surprises here.

6- majidi? really? is this a joke?

        ================================

        second half:

        better second half.

there was a 15 minutes period in the middle of second half where the team played fantastic football with lots if movement in the midfield and up front, players changing their posts and basically making marking and covering for the iceland players very difficult.

but then the quality was lowered to an extent ( but not as bad as the first half ).

        players who impressed:
        ando (defensively)
        ansarifard
        madanchi
        rahmati ( so what's new)
khalatbari ( a bit too selfish in passing the ball, though)
hajsafi ( although he wasnt put under much pressure anyway. in fact our defense wasnt put under much pressure)

I wasn't particularily impressed by Ando. I think he was no better than Pejman Nouri. I must say he wasn't bad and looked in better shape than I had expected after not playing at his club at all, but he kept the ball far too long on several occassions and almost set up chances for Iceland by that, if it hadn't been for foul calls by the ref.

Also I don't think Beikzadeh did bad. I've seen more inspired rightback performances, but I wasn't dissatisfied with him.

And even Majidi didn't do bad, only critisicm here would be the finishing.

The first half, can be explained due to unfamiliarity of the opponant, and unfamiliarity of TM players with each other, and conservetism, for not recieving any sudden Goal.......

            .........................................

BaykZadeh will probably be replaced by kabie.......,he could also ,after more experince with TM,be among center defense hopefuls.

            .........................................

Nosrati is an upgrade to Hossaini........

            ..........................................

Madanchi, appears to be coming from a more active league, and appeared in shape.

            ...........................................

Borhani, indeed does great in Esteghlal, and has good killer instinct ,when playing for Esteglal....he deserves more chances,to be comfortable in TM.

            ...........................................

            Nekunam like player was missing......

            ...............................................

Ghotbi, needs to define duties, that is based on players' streangths, and comfort zone........he has not yet done that for players such as : khalatbari, Borhani,Hajsafi,etc......A good coach, could make it easier for players to feel comfortable with thier duties.

I like what I am seeing from Ansarifard.

Unlike most other Iranian players, he is a new breed that started playing academy football at an early age.
He has played for U16-U19-Omid and now senior team.

His movement and anticipation is far better than our other strikers.
Really impressed by how he moves in the box and managed to create 2-3 decent chances.

Is he the new Ali Daei? No! But he does not have to be.
In Ansarifard, I see traces of a player that can help us in the box and help us score more goals. Thats what he is.
Time is on his side and by playing for Omid in Asian Games and Olympic quaifiers, he will take another step towards becoming our main striker.

By the way, he is 185 cm and not 175.

I agree but Nosrati shouldn't be a LB, got to try Alenemeh for that position. I was very happy with the new players Beikzadeh and Ansarifard. Khalatbari's technique is immaculate but he did not have luck. He should try to coordinate better with Borhani. Also Majidi doesn't have a future in TM.

I guess you don't give up till somebody turns Iran into Brasil ey?

But as far as the LB and RB are concerned, you're right, usually any middle-class team would break through our defense from the left and the right with Beikzadeh and Hajsafi. But Ghotbi at least tries to find a solution for this problem and therefore he has to use different players as LB and RB to know them better.

Hajsafi is overestimated, he has a high impulse to play offensive, we would be under enormous pressure if TM plays an offensive team, Majidi is too old to achieve anything, Borhani is a waste of time, Ando needs get more playing time in UK otherwise we have to search for other options.....

Hosseini and Aghili/Nosrati are regular starters, I don't know any other possibilities. It was the first time, Rahmati had shown weakness

Iranin team played an Iranian football what else we could expect? We saw again and again rare moments of brilliance, combined with not enough movement without the ball, not enough pressuring and sitting back after scoring the goal.

If someone can find a way to make it in our players head that don't sit back after taking a 1-0 lead, the man deserve a Noble (in football catagory, not sure there is one though). In one word it was a typical Iranian team with all of its ups and downs.
"When I see the good in you, you get motivated, feel good about yourself and that creates synergy. It creates an environment where everybody can work better together. I think in the Iranian culture it becomes very ordinary to always see the bad in each other."
Afshin Ghotbi ( Former TM Head Coach)

Nasser Hejazi was the Takhti of our football.

I was traveling and was unable to watch the game , but two points was of real concern.

around 1000 fans turned up for the match which is certainly not good for the morale of the players against Jordan.
Iceland had 7 main players missing. You could technically speaking say that was a reserve team of Iceland , itself one of the weakest European teams.
