I don't think for a minute that it is a difficult group as none of the teams Korea DPR . Iraq and UAE have historically been a serious threat....But , leaving history aside, what do you think the outcome will be like ??

what are our chances?
not so good, if things dont change at IFF and TM !!!!
we have to admit, we are NOT on par with the likes of skorea, australia and japan. we are closer to the likes of iraq and ksa. any of those 3 (jap, aust and skor) can take on our group teams and literally walk all over them with little effort or trouble.
but we cant do that.
and that makes our group very difficult.
as for the toughest group, qatar's is the toughest, although thanks to that kid who drew their seed 2, it could have been EVEN MORE TOUGH for them if instead of uzbeks, he'd drawn australia or japan !
anything can happen in that group and the teams are very close to each other.
the easiest is by an unwritten rule of AFC law, saudis who always (well .. 95% of times) get the best groups and draws. with only 2 big teams who will swallow the other two easy teams with no effort.
and then in quarters meet at best asia's second rated teams !!!
god, I hate AFC and saudi LUCK and am amazed how they consistently get lucky !!.... each and every year !!!
*********************************
the only fishy thing in the draw was how the arab kid who was supposed to draw the SEED 2 team for qatar's group ( which was the first globe) drew uzbekistan.
I'm sure you can watch it on line.
watch how his eyes were glued on the globes ( while the other kids were asked silly questions and took their time to shuffle the globes and ... ) ... as if trying to remember where uzbekistan - the easiest of the 4 teams - was placed.
and he didnt take his eyes off that particular one.
next, he stepped forward too quickly and dipped his hand immediately. his hand went straight for that particular one, keeping it on the inside of his hand, while the other 3 globes - ON THE OUTSIDE OF HIS HAND - were pushed around .
and he didnt push the globes all that much. having kept the desired globe on the inside, he shuffled the other 3 only a little and QUICKLY drew the desired one.
once qatar's most important slot (seed 2) was drawn, things went back to normal with long shuffling of globes for the draw.
THIS WAS EXTREMELY FISHY.

we probably get far as usual but fall short in the semi-final!!
we still do not have a striker in our team, and our team looks very lost with the current roster, and qotbi is not helping the cause either!!!!
we have a lot of work to do from now til the games, but knowing IFF we will not do anything productive til the last month leading up to the game,
rest assure!!!! no friendlies or anything til the last month!!!!
then it will be back to IF we did this, IF we did that, and finger pointing by qotbi that IFF did not do this, or did not do that for the team to cover up his short comingsIRI = FAILED

I envisage several scenarios from the worst to the best:
Scenario one: Team Melli bleeds points against iraq and Korea and when it comes to the final group match which is do or die , they falter against a very defensive and stubborn UAE team.
Scenario two: A win and a draw in the first 2 match , makes the final group match academic.
But frankly , I think the biggest threat for Team Melli comes from within. It is not Iraq nor Korea DPR or even UAE players that could be the main stumbling block , but the players and particularly the coach of Team Melli who are making me nervous.
I do not have high confidence in either but more particularly about the coach. We have beaten the subject to death and don't wish to go on the same road, except to add a new negative development to the already crises of confidence stricken Team Melli camp.
The recent attempt by the IFF to look for a new coach countered by attempts of Ghotbi to lobby his friends to create an artificial environment of support , will definitely fire back. The players will lose confidence in him , some already have. Comes January 2011 , where I seriously doubt that Ghotbi will have the ability to improve or enhance his capabilities as a coach at this level of football , I believe the team will falter.
Do not under-estimate the power of the negative media in Iran. They will be out to slaughter Ghotbi.
In reality , it does not look too promising....but we live in hope.Last edited by maij; 04-23-2010, 12:09 PM.

^^we will see if "heart of lion" will prevail or "hear of a coward"............as i have said many times before many coaches us TM as a springboard for their own success in the future and to make a name for themselves, win or lose they do not care, as long as they can put TM on their resume is good enough for them, qotbi is one of them too!!!IRI = FAILED

The thing is as i said on other thread none of teams in our group are easy to beat and with current situation not even a win is assured, so i dont say it's an easy group to qualify.
And the main problem as Maij and others mentioned is our own team.
IFF and their works makes us totally hopeless, we have no hope at our TM coaching staff, no player is at his peak and we have no star to rely on etc...
So with current situation even UAE is a big and tough rival..sigpic

Something else has occurred to me regarding the players.
If we accept that Nekounam and grudgingly , his club-mate , Shojaei are probably the most valuable players in the current Team Melli , we will have a bit of an issue having them in Qatar in the middle of the La Liga season or after the Christmas Break.
Both will have motivation and/or physical problems.
One thing in Mahdavikia that never really pleased me , was the fact that he reserved his energy and top football for his club more than his country. It was a personal and professional choice and perhaps that is what made him enjoy an extended career with his German club. I fear the Osasuna duo are going on the same track. Which WILL limit their performance in Asian Cup2011.

I'm not happy with our group! I was hoping we would get Saudi Arabia or South Korea in group stage, so in Quarter-finals we wouldn't face them. Oh well now we've missed out on those two so we should get prepared to face them in the quarter-finals.
As for our group members, I think we will win over DPR Korea, but other two games winning would be difficult but historically we were superior to all those teams. I think Team Melli should recruit some professional expat footballers from europe and also bring back all our big guns like Bagheri and Mahdavikia.

what is all you ppl's idea on saudi's group?
we have :
saudi
japan
syria
jordan
what are ur views on this group, plz?
But I don't know if I would have preferred Iran to be in Japan's shoes and play in that group. There is a high chance to meet Qatar in quarter finals then and I think they might be favoured heavily by the refs.

My views on the KSA group, don't underestimate Syria and Jordan. It will be a tough group too. I think if Bahrain managed to beat their boss KSA (in WCQ) this year, so can other west Asian teams.

advokaat? heh.
I think ghotbi used up all his cards and favors among his "friends" for his recent campaign of "support me, otherwise I'm out of my job".
I seriously doubt any of those guys would bother following up on and analyzing and then devising strategies for a team that have no contract with. at best, ghotbi would get a token advise or two.
but the team is so weak and poor in almost all dept's that a dozen of such advises wont make much of a difference!
I still maintain we have time to effect changes .... if we ( that is IFF ) acted to day and for once, cared for Iran, instead of our reputation or money or ... .
and if kaf is worried ghotbi's going to get all his money anyway, then so be it. coz if that is what's standing between TM getting a decent coach and now, then pay the clown and get rid of him.
and serves IFF right for not putting clauses like "quality of performances can effect nullification of the contract" or something like that. how can they NOT put a clause like this in the contract. there ought to be accountability from both sides in a contract so in case one side comes short, the whole thing can be nulled, without a penalty.
stupid retards
