After the draw, what are TM chances?

As much as this group may sound fairly easy on paper compared to other groups, I believe TM will have an extremely tough task ahead of itself. In the recent years we've struggled against UAE, I guess over years and presence of many of our key players in UAE clubs they've found their way into demoralizing and ruining our game plans. As for N. Korea they seem to be the trickiest team to cope with, their all defensive and sharp counter attacks may choke any big teams. Iraq's offense line benefits from some opportunist strikers; Emad= Top scorer of IPL, and Younis= Top scorer of Qatari league, not to mention their decent midfield and star players.
So realistically we will have a hard time advancing from this group, but I am certain we will, however what worries me the most is our potential encounter against S. Korea in the quarter finals.

I have seen enough from the North Koreans , which is one half against the mighty Brazil in the World Cup, to put both hands on my head thinking about January 2011 When Team Melli meets them in the Asian Cup.
Why do I have a feeling that TM will be the second best in their meeting with Korea DPR and for the first time in history , the North Koreans will be favorite to beat Iran ?
Indeed , I am also wary of the UAE team getting better and better and already have started their preparation , while our team last played 3 months ago , is nowhere near anything called preparation !!!
Perhaps , I am getting over excited at the prospect of TM failing to qualify for the next round.....perhaps I am being far too pessimistic , but with a coach like Ghotbi , IFF head such as Kafashian and a load pf players who have hardly made any impact with their clubs ...I definitely see cause for concern.
On the side note....Well Done KOREA DPR....regardless to the final result against Brazil, their football was a delight to watch.

The following two games of North Korea, and ( secound half of Brazil game ), will be most instructive for our TM players. !!
We have often admited,we can not find a way to beat North Korea !,( or some other teams playing negative football )..and have always been frustrated by them......so have other asian football powers of Asia.
The next two games, against , Portugal and Ivory Coast , will be a text book as how to play against North Korea !
The Goran Erriksson , and carlos Queirzo, coaches of Ivory Coast and Portugal, will solve the problem for us !!Last edited by zzgloo; 06-15-2010, 01:57 PM.

How can we depend on those 2 to solve our problems , while our own man Ghotbi who boasted that he knows the Koreans like the back of his hands , could not do the job?
And we did beat Korea DPR 2-1 IN THE WC2010 Qualification when the team was coached by a man who did not know the North Koreans like the back of his hand.

I have to say, it was a lot of bad luck the simultaneous timing of the elections and the last 2 qualifiers.
NOW..that is a new one for me....... Politics interfering in Ghotbi's work ?? I thought the guy is the Master of politics !!!!
Give me a break , my dear Paradigm , you can't be serious , or are you?
Why can't you admit that we have a sub-standard man (dreadful to be precise) called Afshin Ghotbi , coaching a bunch of uninspiring , pathetic and de- motivated players , rather than giving me some irrational justification like politics.
I must give the Iranians this credit . Like the Arabs , they are the master of excuses.........they can easily justify a genocide (both have done it in recent history) let alone the poor performance of a football coach.

Why don't we run a yes/no vote here on PFDC about this issue and see the results ourselves?
far better than a lose to the Saudis,in Azadi, after having lot more time to prepare.
Ghotbi has never been given the benefit of the doubt Ali Daie consistantly recieved, untill the embarresment at Azadi.

i dont think its fair to compare ghotbi's 3 games to daei's 5 games specially when the 2 extra daei games were against asias power house saudi arabia.
if we want to compare ghotbi and daei, we have to compare the games they played against the same opponent namely south korea, north korea and UAE.
they both drew against south korea, and got 4 points out of the other 2 which basically reflects the main issue, that these coaches are more or less all on the same level...
there is no guarantee ghotbi would do better than daei if ghotbi was in charge for 2 saudi games, so that should be excluded.

In my opinion, even Daei did not have enough time ....coaches need time to set up thier plans.......yet Daei had more time, and The saudi's proved not to be the "Asia's power house ".....Both of Koreas, home teams of Ghotbi's oponents , did .
Even,under your suggesting comparisons :
.................................................. .................................................. .
vs North korea.....win for Daei in tehran....tie for Ghotbi in North Korea !!
vs UAE ..............win for Ghotbi in Tehran.....Tie for Daei at UAE !!
.................................................. ..................................................
Then
.................................................. ..................................................
Vs South Korea......Tie for Daei in Tehran.....tie for Ghotbi in seoul
.................................................. ................................................
Ghotbi already has done better...and against The saudi .....speaks for itself.
All together...Daei did not have enough time either...yet, the only key ,was that he was , Too experimental , for his short time.Last edited by zzgloo; 06-18-2010, 08:46 AM.

So ...if we run the poll and 90% of them said that Ghotbi was affected by politics , does that mean that those 90% are right??
What the majority think is NOT necessarily the truth nor the majority are right. Anyway , the Iranians masses have a major handicap in their decision making . Take the revolution as a historical example.
But ......the big question remains. How did you figure that political events has affected Ghotbi , Karimi , Nekounam and co.? and even more to the point , why did not this so-called political setbacks did not create a unity amongst the players (positive rather than negative effect) ?
and while you are talking about political situation and its effect on football , would you care to explain to me , how come the Iraqi's won the Asian Cup in 2007 without playing a single match in their war-torn country ???
To me , Afshin Ghotbi remains an opportunist, incompetent & inexperienced coach but the major blame has to be on the shoulders of people who appointed him. If you think otherwise , then provide something concrete in his defense rather than speculative theories.
