Akbarpour is garbage. SS should get rid of him, TM is completely out of sight for him. Salehi had some good games, but he lacks consistency. Borhani is even worse. He has great days and he has complete off days, recently only the latter. I think you are right that both of this players might have TM potential somewhere hidden deep inside, but I have my doubts they can bring it up to make the AC list.
    Martin Jaan...
    I repectfuly disagree....
lets compare three players, who are relevent to our disagreement...

1- Mahdavikia......he was a total package, good defensive & offensive instincts, vercetile on midfield and right back, with excellent crosses, and great understanding of the game.

2- kabie.........he was ( with the emphasis on was ) fast, and good contributer to offense, and had talents to draw opposing players to make fauls on him.......yet he was short and fragile, weak on defense, and mistake prone, and very inconsistant..as well as distraction to the team.

3- Haydari........while he is yet to recieve the experince those other two enjoyed..yet, he is a good defensive player, ( better than kabei ),and does not make much mistakes, and has excellent crosses ( better than kabei),and does contribute to the offense, more than any left backs TM has..he is also very consistant,( much more than kabei ),and appears to be smarter and more physical than him as well.
    ................
and regarding the forwards......your statements ( while true ), has a wrong assupmtion of having many other options !!
There are no options, when it comes to TM forwards...and salehi and Borhani and majidi, and yes even akbarpoor ( whom I agree is garbage ), are options TM has to consider.

These are the results from the 1/16 round:

Does anyone know which team will play Zob Ahan in the quarter finals?

By the way Martin jaan, Kaabi has been out of form and ineffective for his previous 2 clubs as well for TM. He's not as fast or determined as his young years around 2003-2006. Heydari however always performs when he features for the national squad.

As far as I am concerned, we only have 2-3 players on our TM roster today that may be at a level to play internationally.
The rest are just so average and their impact on the game so inconsistent and inconsequential, that it makes absolutely no difference if they are on the roster or off the roster. The team will do, just about the same!

So, let’s not even waste our breath over whether this player is better than other or whether so and so should have been replacing Daie during the WC games or what not! The difference would have been minimal!

I don't want to label the obvious that, the real problem lies in the fact that we have no system capable of producing good quality players in Iran. And by that I mean a player who not only possesses the skills and physical attributes, but the knowledge of how to be a professional footballer. Unfortunately, this also applies to our coaches, fans, and the whole football establishment from the federation to the bottom. Our football has not grown to a professional level, despite of its claim.

For those of you who remember the old days, we had a successful run during the late 60s and 70s, because we were building a good foundation and were moving towards a proper football system. Something our competition was lacking at the time.
But, it has been total disarray since the 80s. Inconsistent and incapable of producing anything substantial. The occasional sparks only attributable to good luck and not indicative of anything concrete. Our competitions since then, have surpassed us in building what is needed to create a good football team and produce consistent performance. Examples are some of the arab countries! I hate to say this but even Saudi has built a style of play that is unique to them! That is consistency, we lack!

Having said all of that, we now find ourselves again in a situation to create a team capable of winning a competition as high as Asian Cup, when everything surrounding our football is dysfunctional and broken! A daunting task for anyone, let alone Ghotbi who is either fool or brave enough to put his name on the line. May be he is thinking that he can get lucky and that there could be one of those lucky sparks during his time and the team can bring home the top prize and he becomes the hero. You never know, may be that can actually happen, but someone should remind him that our football culture is so broken that it doesn’t even honour its heroes properly.

        Anyway, back to the real issue. Now we are faced with building a team with what we have. I don’t want to get involved in picking player names, but have the following suggestions for Ghotbi or whomever that is going to be the so called coach for Asian Cup;

        - Get rid of those players who don’t think or behave like a professional. They may embarrass us again by slapping each other during the game live on TV with millions of people watching!
        - Get rid of those who don’t follow directions
        - Get rid of those who like to play under the table games
        - Focus on building a team with players who play simple football. Like they understand how to make a proper pass. Dribblers have done nothing for us in the past, and will not do anything in the future!
        - Get rid of those who have been given enough chances in the past and haven’t really performed. Read my lips, they are not up to it!
        - Go searching among the tall and physically strong players. Football is a physical game now! Enough of bunch of shorties and shinnies!! We have bigger boys in Iran!
        - Take emotions off the equation for your players. It is a game not the battle of Ghadessiyeh when playing Arabs. Scoring a goal is just part of doing the job. That is if you are a professional!
        - Focus on reducing errors amongst what you have. That is a good way of producing higher quality football. You have no time to create skills.
        - Etc. etc. etc.

        Good Luck!

I am hopeful despite of all being said .. just for the sake of all the young boys and girls of Iran who deserve to be proud of their football team!
