    .....

30 meters and no other player between him and the goal??? as impossible as it seems, it is for the ref to decide whether the ball would have eventually entered the goal or not.

but right now, even this decision is blocked by fifa rules. and it is absolutely unfair.
fifa shd at least open it to the ref's discretion and judgment. so in such cases as ghana's, he has a chance to serve justice

that is the key question !
for the same reason, the faul on the goal line, may worth additional penalty !
perhaps, penalty kick from the 6 yard line !
big difference between awarding a foul with a penalty, and awarding a 100% goal (like suarez's) with a penalty.

in the foul's case, the goal is NOT 100% as the players are known to kick out, hit the post, lose the 1-on-1's with the GK, trip, ... you name it, it's happened.

but in suarez's case, had the hand not been raised, the ball would have gone in 100%.

big difference between the 2 instances

Indeed, football is beautiful, and a source for human unity !

these are what I take from this World Cup..

1- Football is not a Rocket scince !
2-The world of football is getting closer to eachother.
3-Japan,South Korea,Australia, are leaving the rest of the Asia behind, and have joined the European style camp.
4- The key to playing football, is to win the one to one battles !, South Americans do it with individual techniques...., Africans do it with Superior physics......Europeans do it with team work.
5- The triangular/Dimond shape fast passing advancement, along with strong shootings, are the trend of the new football !

Like every World Cup , new lessons , new tactics , new trends and the same old grievances.

Tactically speaking, my main impression and the one that I believe directly affects Team Melli is: To win, you need a powerful defense. I have no doubt about that at all specially after watching the Germans roll over the rest.
If you look deeply at Team Melli , you would notice how the feeble defense has destroyed the team more than any other factor put together.

        That was lesson No 1.

        Lesson no 2:
Never under-estimate opponents on one hand, on the other, No team is formidable.
If you know your basic footballing techniques, there is no such thing as super power team. Serbia proved it and so did Paraguay and Switzerland amongst others.

Lesson 3: Football is NOT a rocket science. You need no university degree to excel in it , there is no TEXT BOOK formula for winning , fame and fortune help but not always. People can become hero to villains and vice versa in matter of hours. It is a ***** of a game.

The biggest disgrace of this World Cup and football in general, is the unfairness and injustice that mars the game as was evident in many matches in South Africa.

        Shame on football.

^ totally agree on the topic of fairness

the funny thing is the way fifa vehemently defends and fights for a set of rules that are contrary to their sh*tty slogan of fair-play. as if they willingly want to help all the unfair, unsporting and negative aspects of the game, while making correction of these as some tremendously blasphemous tasks that are impossible to do!!!!!!
they spend 10 times the effort and energy defending all the wrongs than having the sense to listen to their slogan and actually for once try to do the right thing and be fair

          ====================

as for the defensive teams, I am happy they have been kicked out one after another.
world cup is no place for a negative minded team to be rewarded.
imagine if the stupid paraguay had advanced. the team that has failed to score even a single goal in its last 3 whole games!! that's over 90 + 120 + 90 (400+) minutes!!
same thing with the portuguese who aside form the north korea game, proved to be quite impotent and useless

and if fifa had a bone of fairness in its governing body, we'd have all 4 teams in the semis as positive ones who serve the beautiful game, instead of 3.

          ==============

another thing that was reinforced is I dont want to be grouped with germany, if given a choice.
they seem to be the most hungry & merciless team, traditionally.

they seem to always want to get more and are never satisfied with a simple win.
so far they have crushed 3 teams scoring 4 goals on the, 2 of which are giants of the game.
but it doesnt stop at this WC edition.
in 2006, they scored another 4 goals against the minnows costa rica
in 2002, they are the same ones who destroyed saudi 8-0 (when they could have easily wrapped up the game with a simple 2-0 or 3-0. but they didnt stop and went for more)
and what about uae's 5-0 humiliation back in 90?
          and many more examples.
they seem not be bothered about ripping through teams if they can. no remorse.
so I say we were quite lucky we were grouped with a weak, old germany in 98 to escape with only a 2-0

I must say I learnt that pretty much every team is playing with one forward these days and three offensive players behind them, even against "weaker" teams. Also funny how two Asian teams rather successfully did what Ghotbi was heavily critisized for, having a midfielder playing lone striker (Honda, Cahill) .

Also I am a bit negatively surprised about the speed of the games, direct passing has become much more rare than it used to be a few years ago.

Generally football has been more defensive minded, it's about scoring one goal and then holding on to it, maybe relying on counters after that, but mostly not even that.

The performances of the other AFC teams also made me a bit more positive about TM. We could easily compete with South Korea and considering the distortion of competition by AFC which cost us as well (no simultanious matches on final matchday and granting South Korea an away match on neutral ground while forcing all other teams to travel to Pyongyang), we are not in such a bad state as we maybe thought - although we are on the way down, if IFF doesn't make some changes quickly.

              totally agree.

I think once Klose and Torres come back from the WC, ghotbi shd choose only one of them as our (TM's) single forward and bench the other.
especially when we have Messi and xavi as TM's playmakers, to constantly supply the through balls and chances for our single forward.

personally, I think TM can fare better with Klose than Torres, coz torres has been off form (after his surgery). with klose's speed, decision making, height and goal scoring form, I'm sure TM will implement the single forward formation like a dream and we'll beat the crap out of every opponent.

DOC...I hope you are drawing the line between defensive teams (Paraguay , Switzerland and Korea DPR ...etc ) and teams with strong defense et la German (Deutsche mannschaft.)

while we are at iot.....don't you just looooove this German team.

1- absolutely. I meant those negative teams that rely only on defense and destructive style of football, rather than the positive, forward-looking style. those teams that are way too cautious and negative to actually kill the game.
imo, being strong in defense does not equal being defensive.

germans are not a defensive team, by no means. they are strong in all zones, defense included. and I think their success is not so much borne out of star power than a very homogenized, coordinated group of hard working players who are highly disciplined.
this is something that is a german trade-mark be it their sport or manufacturing or ... , which is praise worthy.

                  2- "LOOVVE" germany?
6-7 years back they were my absolute favorites, no matter how badly they played. today, I side with them only when they deserve it. and this team certainly deserves all the praise we heap on them.

personally I'd love to see the spanish reach the finals (against the dutch). but I'm afraid, after the last 3-4 games by the young germans, and considering how spain struggled to put the likes of paraguay & switzerland away, coupled with Torres' abysmal form, I'm not too sure they could defeat the germans that easily.

their lack of height and physicality is also a great cause for worry, which will be even more highlighted by the tall, physically-tuned german team!

so my heart wants a spain-holland final, but my mind says it's gonna be the revenge match of 1974 final for the dutch.

I am glad my fellow freinds ,here, will not ask me, to justify my understandings of this World Cup ! ,as it is all a feeling !

As I said it in my earlier post on this thread......
I do not give my attention to the system of teams , be it 4-4-2,or 4-2-3-1, or what ever...to me, they do not realy matter much.....specialy with the level our TM is at :
What matters are basic , and foundemental issues :

1-The players , needs to be strong in one to one battles.

2-The control of the ball, is paramont.

                    3-Minimizing mistakes.

                    4-accurate passing.

                    5-Accurate shootings.

                    6- Physical streangth.

                    7-Ability to head the ball.
                    .................................................. ..............................................

Once the foundemental is at work, then the team could work on strategies..which team could advance the ball,by short passing dimond shap advancements....and defense the same way.
                    .................................................. ..............................................

Everything els, is based on what opponant we are playing against, and players who would do as they are asked.
                    .................................................. .............................................

Germany.......used a the strategy of , scoring first fast...,and then add to the score by counter attacks.....
It worked with three teams, it did not with others.....
I persoanly do not see, Holland allow germany to dance around the field early in the game.

That is what I meant to say, when I said earlier: " Football is not Rocket scince ".

It was apparant in this world cup, that all it takes to be in a game against anybody,is to know the basics !

                        Know to control the ball
Know how to shoot from far
                        Know how to head
Know how to challange on one to one battles.
Know how not to waist passes.
                        .................................................. .......................................
For a national team players, not to know these basics skills, the fault is with Domestic coaches !

It probably taught him how to milk even more money out of IFF to spend on knowing the palms of his hands and also taught him how fast he can spend that money in the shortest possible time without looking at the palm of his hand.
