This was no B team. This is a new Brazil team after a disappointing WC with maybe 4 or 5 players missing.

We were missing 3 players either, there is no need to underestimate the strength of an opponent who started with 5 Serie A players, 1 Barca, 1 Chelsea and 1 Liverpool player and subbed in players from Werder Bremen or the leading goalscorer of La Liga.

But we will see what squad Menezes will call up against Argentina as well as how this team will fare against Ukraine on Monday...

as much as you like to make the game a tough one, I must remind you this brazil was not in any sort of hurry, not hungry for goals at all and in lone periods was just whiling the time away.
in other words, they hardly exerted themselves

That's how they play most of the time. Or did they look like they were exerting themselves against North Korea in World Cup?

Of course, after being up 2-0, every team calms down.

This team would have beaten any team in the world apart from a handful. I personally expected us to play much worse. We had our 3-4 chances and we allowed 6-7 chances. Against such a team, that is pretty good. And you won't see Brazil running like horses against a team like us in a friendly. Still noone can expect us to stand more of a chance against them than we did today. With a bit more cleverness, we draw. That is very close to the maximum we can expect.

Quit the negativity. Noone is saying we played the game of the century, or that we should be happy with the result or that we will win Asian Cup. I could understand you if you felt you need to calm people down.

But this permanent alarmism by so many in these forums is slowly hard to bear.

I say, most of the comments here are right on the money. You guys are good analysts and sometime put the coaches to shame! Bravo!

As for my 2 cents, I think regardless of the score and how the team performed, these kind of friendlies are always useful. This was the Smoke Test for our team so to speak. It raised the bar and made you see how far the team can go against a quality side. I personally learned a lot just by watching. I hope it was as educational for our players and coaches!

This was also a dream come true for Iran to finally play Brazil. After all Brazil is an icon in world football and we Iranians have always had this love affair with Brazilian football. The kids on the street, playing football ..

Definalty more friendlies like this would be great for our team. It would be like putting your players through university!!! One of the reasons Turkey improved so much and so rapidly, was because they found themselves playing against good quality teams all the times after the left Asian and joined Europe. They had to match the quality and they did!

The only thing that I regret about this game was the fact that it was played in an Arab country and not our own. I asked myself why? Well, I kinda knew that answers, and without getting too political here. I say that was a real pitty for a nation like us!! Abadan would have loved to see their beloved Brazil play in a world class stadium there!!! wishful thinking for the yonge boys and girls of Abadan, but a reality for Dubai kids !! Sad, isn't it ... :-(

Not that there is any difference between Brazil's A team or M team (they've got 20-30 players ready for each position, who are at least world class talents).

But calling a Brazil without Kaka, Maicon, Lucio, Julios Cesar and Fabiano the main team is a bit too generous. They were missing at least 5 fix starters (and you could count even more if you include Bastos, Juan, Alex, etc. etc.)

And believe me all those players will play in the next World Cup.

Guys to solve this A, B issue.

Let's face it Brazil can put out at least 10 A teams all at the same time!

What we saw today was one of them and really nothing short of the other A team that played elsewhere!!

              Happy now?

This, A-B discussion is just ridiculous, it's like bad-mouthing TM's performance. I was very pleased with their performance

                    07 October 2010

ABU DHABI (AFP) - A much changed Brazil from the one that disappointed at the World Cup finals eased to a 3-0 victory over Iran in an international friendly here on Thursday.

Goals by Daniel Alves, Alexandre Pato and Nilmar were enough to see the Brazilians to an easy win on what was their second appearance in the United Arab Emirates - they walloped the UAE 8-0 in 2005.

Brazil - now under the management of Mano Menezes after Dunga was sacked following their exit in the World Cup quarter-finals to the Netherlands - opened the scoring in the 14th minute through a terrific freekick by Alves.

Despite being cheered on by the 20,000 strong crowd the Iranians couldn't deliver much of a threat but the Brazilians also could not add to their tally during the first period.

Their domination eventually paid off when Pato - who was left out of the World Cup squad - struck in the 69th minute as he shot home from inside the area and Nilmar scored in similar fashion two minutes into time added on.

Menezes, whose first match in charge saw his side beat the United States 2-0, said that it had been another chance to try out some fresh talent as he tries to put a side together for next year's Copa America and then for the 2014 World Cup which Brazil are hosting.

"At the moment, we are in the middle of testing out certain players in order that we can evaluate them and their ability at this level," said Menezes, who was not first choice for the hotseat but got the nod when Fluminense refused to release Muricy Ramalho.

"We are in the early stages of constructing a new team and we have a lot of work to do.

"We are going to continue these experiments in the next lot of friendlies with Ukraine and Argentina so we get an idea of their potential," added the 48-year-old former Corinthians handler.

Pato said he was delighted with his and the team's performance.

"We are happy with our performance throughout the match which was a tough one to play in," said the 21-year-old AC Milan marksman.

"We are also satisfied with how the less experienced players performed."

                      or, on the other hand:
lets not forget if somehow rahmati wasnt available (which is always possible; injury, suspension, fight, ... etc), we'd have seen mirzapour in the goal, becoz acording to our dear head coach, mirza is our second choice.

now, imagine how badly we'd have lost.
                      7-0 or more!

Doc, if today we had Wesley Sneijder, I mean Khalatbari, the result could have been different! Probably a 2-2 tie.

Even a K team of Brazil would destroy any Asian side on any given day! what's the fuss about A or B team? does it even matter when it comes to the mighty Brazil?

Unlike what most of us had predicted a horrendous day for our defenders prior to this match, I thought we actually did quite good in our defense and as a matter of fact our defense did better than mid and offense lines, this match we had the least defensive bloopers and blunders compared to most of TM games during the past 4- years, this gets even more valuable when you see your team had its best defensive day against the strongest team we've played in nearly 35 years!

Brazil missed some of their key players? so did we! we missed our current top IPL player Khalatbari whose presence in today's match would have troubled Brazil's team for sure, not to mention our recent TM top goal scorer Aghili, a defender who knows who to score goals! also Gholamreza Rezaei would have been our best striker choice for today's match!

I thought we did OK and I believe this loss and this tough opponent taught us a lot of lessons, and we better take advantage of it and fix our shortcoming, Stamina and fitness being one of the top priorities to work on!

Brazilian Coach said after the game :

1- IRAN played well ( though he was trying to be polite,as he contradicted himself later ).

2-The IRANIAN defense played well. ( That is encouraging ).

3- There is defenetly a difference in our classes of football. ( That is discouraging ).

4-We like to play IRAN again, in Tehran or Brazilia. ( That is also Encouraging ).
                            .................................................. .................................................. ..

The Brazilian secound Goal....., was what IRANIAN football , for some reason ,can never do.....attack from the center of the BOX.......
It requires a " football Courage ", we do not have.

dont want to stretch the B side or K side issue , but if you watched ESPN, you'd know plenty of the players were having their first or second caps.

AFP's report is a typical report of someone who clearly didnt watch the game and must have watched the news highlights (which are usually just the goals of a match) and made a report based on that! the fact that he never mentioned gholami's correct goal or neku's attempt (pot hit) or meydavoudi's is proof of this that he didnt bother to even watch the freaking game!

speaking of the game's benefits, I'd add:
among those revealed, though is one major issue. our players need to play more high profile, world power teams like brazil or I'd even include any of the top 20 fifa team. if you noticed the simple case of Pejman Nouri, you'd have seen how he started the game lost and overwhelmed by the opponent's NAME & REPUTATION, and couldnt do half of what he does daily! but as the game wore on, he gained confidence and started to play his own game.
such games go a long way to make our players more confident and brave, so the occasion or the opponents dont affect them, they can stay focused and not lose all their senses.

hopefully another benefit of the game could be an interest in Rahmati who's being wasted in IPL. the guy truly deserves to play in europe. at the same time, Ando also may have done some service in his bid to get back to europe. and I personally would like to see gholami picked up too, although that would be a bit of s stretch and wishful thinking

                              ==================

after checking a few int'l friendly results, I come across japan-argentina 1-0 for japan.
wow. here we are making the 3-0 loss into a great achievement, and our asian rivals are beating argentina!!!!!!

says a lot about how we behave like the ostrich. also shows the vast difference between us and the true contenders for the asian crown.
hala aghaye ghotbi bereh ba goozestan bazi koneh va natijeh ro bozorg koneh!

in case some of you want the english version (ESPN), here you can find the replay of the BRAZIL game:

                                http://espn.go.com/espn3/index
                                go to the replay section

and while you're at it, you might want to watch JAPAN - ARGENTINA also to find where we are and where our rivals are !!!
the argentian that had many of its SUPER-STARS like Messi, Mascherano, higuaine, demichelis, tevez, milito, cambiaso, .... (a stark contrast to brazil's mostly olympic prospects). pretty much the team that beat spain, the world champs 4-1 a month or so back!!!

the game also wasnt played at walking speed
