At last: It's not that bad we lost

We came to this tournament counting whether we are the favorite to go up from the group stage.

We started the game one, had two opportunities and capitalized both. Went to the second game, had one chance and scored. We got relaxed, went with a different team and strategy and passed from the third team who needed to win with the good margin. They started to risk and we punished them in counter. That's all.

From there, the atmosphere of the fans went completely crazy. people started thinking about facing the mighty teams, bringing teams like Spain and Brazil to their knees, taking about the strategy how to crash Japan in semi and trash Aussies in Final in the way going to win the WORLD CUP. Such a short memory. So short.

It's like it was not us who got embarrassingly eliminated from WCQ in the hands of likes N. Korean and UAE. Or 3 out of four of our club teams couldn't even go up from the group stage.

If you ask me this team did a good job within their capacity. The coaching staff had a good defensive team sitting back and using the opponent mistake. It worked pretty much good in the last few months and even in this tournament. I wouldn’t be surprised if this strategy worked in the last game. I saw a team like INTER beat a team like BARCA with the same strategy. Or a team like N. Korea could resist a team like Brazil for over 80 minutes. But, such a strategy doesn’t change the fact that we are not the POWER HOUSE any more.

Winning the yesterday game would send the wrong message that this football is not SICK. At last, it's not that bad we lost.

We gotta come back to our sense. We have never been this low and weak in our history. I see people complaining why we didn't have a more risky approach, talking like we really had a shot against a better team like S. Korea. I tell you what would be happening. We could win the game 1-0 or lose the game 5-0 depending how luck would work for us. We proudly lost the game 1-0 in over time from a fantastic goal in the hands of the heavy favorite of the tournament. What else do we want? Winning the Asian Cup and having the current IFF team for ever? Really, do we want that?

    Cheers,

      that is true.
on a general POV, our football is not on par with the likes of japan or korea.
but there is another aspect to this, which is the specific game, where we could have defied all the above and won.

the other silver lining is the gov't and AN were poised to take credit for any achievement in the games and milk it for political purposes. so they were once again denied of this (just like how AN appeared during the iran-saudi game, thinking he can ride in with a victory over our arch rivals and make himself more popular with the masses)

        Very true and accurate statement....

However , I seriously doubt that the result of Korea game (a loss or a win) would have made a major impact on Iranian football.

The illness , the weakness , the shortcomings or whatever name you want to call it is quite deep rooted and a single event will NOT eliminate it. I believe that the biggest problem is that many people think that everything is hanky dory in Iran's football , there are ups and downs but there is NO serious problem !!!!. I am talking about the people who run football there or are influential or effective in its fortune, I am not talking about the ordinary fans.

If there are changes to the better , it will be slow and painful. Do not count on major upheaval or revolutionary changes any time soon.
