on a side note (which almost became the main topic of the thread): I think khlatbari's performance wasnt all that bad.

yes, he did have some bad moves and good ones too.
but a few of them stand out for me (let me remind y'all I didnt see min 45-53), like him robbing the ball with a nice tackle and quickly turning that into a quick counter where it almost led to a goal (if he has chaipped the bugger instead of passing it across), or the few times he switched flanks and gave the right defender a bit of hell and then came to left and did the same to this chap.

he also was full of running, which helps in starting the team defense, ... at least making a nuisance of himself for the russians trying to make a play.

so I wouldnt say he was dreadful. he was ok but nowhere near his best.
and maybe those of you who want him only as a golden sub do have a point.
maybe his energy and focus can be used better coming in late in the game. rather than starting with him , therefore allowing his quarrelsome & childish nature to earn him some cards!

but for me, the best player on the pitch was Haidari. a clear winner of M.O.M.
followed by the likes of hadadifard, ando and even hosseini & afshin (given his young age & inexperience).
I agree that Heydari was MOM, haddadifar and ando did really good as well. But I don't see why Ashin gets all the credits while Khalatbari gets all the crap (beside the age thing).
Attitude shouldn't be that big of a factor in football, otherwise Ronaldo would always be a sub and with him a lot of other prima donna's.
Yes Khalatbari messed up a good chance, but so did Gholami and some other players. The difference with him is that he made up for it. Plus he had some very nice first touches as well, haven't seen that been done in TM for a while....

I like to stress the point you made about the player's mental strength. It is either due to lack of confidence or over confidence. I really took an exception to the Iranian match commentator who kept repeating that Russia is way better than us , they are higher class and all that jazz. If a player hears such comments ( which is quite common) what would be his mental status thinking of this inferiority complex?

You are right , t is the society that is screwing up and has a major share of blame when it comes to the shortcoming in football. I really was tempered to pick up the home to call to the TV commentator and the end of the match to tell him...up your nose , Agha..your superior team just got beaten by our boyz

I hear you man about this TV commentator!

This f.. ing guy sounds like he is telling children stories instead of reporting a football game. Every bloody word takes forever to come out of his mouth. The way he talks is just so lame and so representative of akhoundi culture! full of stupidity and low class remarks.
You kinda expect him to say "Gheseye ma be sar resid kalagheh be khonash naresid" at the end .. !

One of his shenanigans was the b.s. about Russians being impacted by the weather in Dubai and not being able to perform. That was the highlight of his so called expert commentary.

And more annoying than the commentator was Dr. Zolfagharnasab whose so called expert analysis, was anything but expert. The man puts you to sleep with his lenghtly stories! It was interesting that he said he played against Soviet Union during the Montreal olympics. Actually he remained on the bench!

You could tell that both of them had something agianst Ghotbi and did not want to admit that some credit needs to be given to Ghotbi for this team whether you want it or not!!!

From now on, I will tune to some arabic channel. At least I don't have to put up with this b.s. ...

LOL my exact thoughts, this commentator takes his time to finish a sentence, so by the time he finishes mentioning a small incident on the field 5 other bigger incidents have already taken place and he's missed them all, not to mention his repetitive bloopers such as calling hadi Noroozi "Arash Noroozi" for at least 4-5 times

Back to topic, it would be quite idiotic of Queiroz should he decline TM coaching offer, most of the right tools are literally available for him to use, our fitness seems to be great, our young and promising talents are shining, the speculated salary sounds lucrative and quite tempting, the reception (Although quite phony and artificial) was somewhat decent and surely beyond his expectations. The entire nation is desperate with minimum expectations from the current team, beating a world class team like Russia in front of his own eyes all may sound like a few prosperous years of his footballing coach ahead of him!

Just take the job, baghaiash ba ma bachehaaye PFDC, we have so many great football experts and critics who would make your life miserable day after day!

My opinion of Khalatbary is not very complimentary. YES , he is a skillful player , has pace that very few Iranian players seem to posses , and last but not least , has guts and is not afraid to go for it.

On the negative side , he is very inconsistent , a cheat , a fall guy who drops flat on his face sniffing grass from the slightest tackles . He is undisciplined , moody and not very well behaved. I guess he is something between Ali Karimi and Khodadad Azizi , although he is not even close to Karimi (in his golden days) in style , finesse and dribbling skills. And Karimi is not a cheat.

Players like Khalatbary are useful when a team is desperate situations. But...I am not complaining as long as he score such brilliant winner ....woooowww...what a goal.
After reading all the player ratings of other member, I think my TV seems to be ok. However maybe it's time for you to buy a new TV. Buy a Sony LCD like the one I have, the are said to be the best.

Anyways enough of this, let's just hope we can keep this kind of football up, no matter who ends up to be our coach.

Unfortunately , I have no clue from the sources in Tehran whether Queiroz is going to sign or not, apparently he should come up with a decision on Friday or Saturday.

Anyway, If he signs , then I think it is a positive move, he would be the highest profile coach of Team Melli ever. I believe that he is well capable of taking Team Melli forward. The time is also perfect with preparation for the next World Cup and perhaps his input will be valuable for Omid Team as well fighting for a spot in London's Olympic games next year.

Apparently . Queiroz has unique eyes for spotting talented players and working with them. He is credited in discovering many Portuguese players and the most famous of them is Luiz Figo. What better place to spot a talent than Iran ?

If he does not sign , then it is not the end of the world. Look at the bright side . We still have Ali Kafashian , that one of the kind national asset to guide us through the turbulent times !!

Ey baba, abroo rizi nakonin dige. A LED LCD TV is still a LCD tv..and pretty much every single LCD TV is Full HD by now.
Anyways I don't know what to expect anymore. Is he coming or not? You would say that, he coming to Iran and seeing the game is a good sign, but returning to Portugal and still not having made a decision on the otherside isn't a good sign.

I agree it is not looking promising , despite showing his pleasure with Team Melli's performance against Russia.

When a guy starts asking others for advice , specially people who have left in bitterness like Branko , I don't think they will be too enthusiastic about living or working in Iran.

Frankly , I would not like to live in Iran myself. It is a lovely country with beautiful, creative and dynamic people but the place is marred by an archaic and restrictive system with no respect to privacy or personal freedom. Let us face it. It is NOT an environment which thrills westerners.

I guess we will see how good he is without paying a penny.

So ...I guess , like always , money did the talking at the end. He probably knows that he will get fired at some stage and will grab the whole amount of the contract and some without finishing his contract.

I wonder how many MORE of our friends here STILL insist on foreign coach for Team Melli !

Oh well....back to the drawing board.
