I don't know What Mazloomi said or did in half time, but maybe, maybe it is not just the coach. It is a mentality in our players. You see it in our TM, in SS, in Sepahan (based on your own post they were different in the second half). Maybe it is as simple of our players can't maintain that level of physical activity for more than 50-60 mins and after that they are tired. As far as being conservative and don't risk mentality in players, heck it is a mentality in our nation for that matter, after all we still tolerate IRI and hoping a faction of it (i.e. Moosavi Karoobi faction) is the answer.

This isn't to defend Mazloomi, but overall I think you have an unrealistic view of the power of the head cocah. Soccer isn't basketball or American football, where the coach can get a large number of time outs and have unlimited subs. When the whistle is blown coach is done. Each player and his physical, mental state will be the determinant of the outcome. You can say coach has subs, it is true, but even in that regard, coach's hand isn't as open as you suggest. Remember he sent the best to the field in his mind at least. If X who was supposed to be the best was sent and now he shit his pants and keep kicking the ball away, probablly putting Y who wasn't as good as him (at least in the coach's eye) and coach has seen him in the practice whole week long won't create a miracle.
Plus coaches are overall limited by the players who they have on the roster, so it is not like Mazloomi all of a sudden can bring Ashoobi or Sharifat and they can do miracle.

Do you honestly Mazloomi, Ghotbi, Daie Branko will hold the players back if they try to dominate ? I doubt it. They may say don't take foolish risks, but I dont' think that means park the team in front of the 18 yeard box as SS did for 20 mins and kick any ball that u get and wish for a miracle.

In principal what u say is right, in a true professional club, they have scouted the players that will really bring value and address their weaknesses. They know their budget so they go for a player that they know they will have a chance. None of this exist in Iran. You remember what SS situation was at the begining of this season. Fattollahzadeh pull one of his arse to be honeset with his signings and keeping key players (like Borhani) leaving.

Don't get me wrong, I am as pissed as you are about this situation (SS loosing a 2-0 lead in an away game), the only difference is I blame both player's and coache's mentality, say 40% of the blame to players and 60% to coaches, not as 100% coach as your post suggests.

Please see Mazloomi's interview after the game here.

from the beginning of the 2nd half he shd have been standing next to the line and screaming and shouting at the players.
and if they dont listen, then for f*cks sake, you're the freaking coach. sub a couple of them. what happened to him. did his brains hang?

but time and time again football has reminded us of this rule: if you're a wimp, you WILL lose.
TM has quite a few personal experiences of these wimpy examples under a few gutless coaches.

    **************

    and while we're on the subject of ACL, I'd like to add this little bit about sepahan's game yesterday;
I simply LOVED how they played in the first half.
the quick passing, the change of zones, the long & short passes, the movement, ... it reminded me of european football (even if they had a few hic ups ... which happens in european football too). and had it not been for some loose play by toure, they'd have been ahead by a couple.
the first half was a joy to watch. I dont know what happened in the break, but the sepahan that came out was a few notches below this.

so if our coaches & trainers can somehow get their teams to MAINTAIN this level of pace & accuracy in passing for 90 minutes, then we can seriously reclaim our spot among the best of asia's elite.

yes, the coach isnt entirely at fault in general losses
........but you dont wait till 72nd minute to make your change when your team has distinctly started playing differently from the beginning of the 2nd half. and especially if you concede a goal at 53rd minute, your standing and watching a losing battle in the midfield for a whole 25 minutes means you, THE COACH, are either having a brain freeze or are just too scared to react.

the highlight of this coaching fiasco is when you have lost your 2-0 lead due to some extremely poor midfield control and still havent made your last subbing untill minute 93 (when you're FORCED to replace your injured defender!!!!!!!!)
ok. borhani was suspended. why wasnt sharifat brought in around minute 80, after the equalizing goal?

still want to say the coach has little or limited impact on such a game?

I agree with you that Mazloomi was passive yesterday no argument there. My post was more toward your overall attitude toward being super critical (at least in my opinion) toward coaches.

As for this specific case, Sharifta was injured, he suffered an injury supposedly in the Keshaleh raan. I don't know the English term.

Sayyed Salehi was injured too. He wasn't supposed to play at all. Niether was Hawar. Hawar is so crucial on left so he was forced toplay and Sayed Salehi was played due to dire situation.

Mazloomi in this case should have brought Ashoobi when he saw the pressure I think, and that is why I am critical of him. As American's say, Monday Morning quarter backing is easy, but Mazloomi keeps one sub for the last minute I think, imagine if Mazloomi had done all the subs and Sadeghi couldn't have been replaced. Poor Sadeghi played 5-6 minutes with an injury. Speaking of that, I was impressed with his commitment. At times I have been so critical of him and now it is time to praise him for being so selfless.

I never said coach has limited impact, I said it isn't all coaching. I have seen your posts since 2005. I never saw a single post from you or for that matter from any member to criticize the conservative attitude of Iranian players and how our players chock at big games. Even Iran Australia who we are so proud of it, and call it Hamaseh, our players totally chocked under pressure from Australia, do I need to remind you about Bahrain? Do I need to remind you against Germany in WC 1998 or WC 2006? Each of these games there was a different head coach (prierra, Blaz, Talebi, Branko). Common denominator is our player's attitude. Any big time game, unless we fall behind and all of a sudden our players remember nothing to loose they are super conservative. All I am asking is to point out this is a general problem in our football. Again in this game I agree with you and my post was more in response of your overall view on coaching.

1- on the 3rd sub: I hope you're not saying any coach who makes his 3rd sub before last minutes of a game he's being fool-hardy and is risking finishing the game with 10 (in case someone gets injured).
there are coaches who make their subs well in advance IF THEY WANT TO TURN THINGS AROUND OR CHANGE TACTICS OR ... . and mazloomi shd have done it much before that.
a player not being able to continue due to injury is a rarity and certainly is worth the risk if the coach wants to change the fate of the game.

2- secondly, all those games you mentioned have got their own characteristics and cant be put in one category. different circumstances, different characters, diff demands and criteria, .... etc.

3- as for why I speak more about a coach's role and impact than a single player, well, it ought to be clear coz the periphery of his impact and effect is far wider on a team and its fortunes than a single player.
besides, I guess you have forgotten plenty of threads and discussions on merits and demerits of different players like karimi, zareh, sadeghi, kia, mobaali, ... etc
so each topic has had its own discussions

I never expected you to talk about a single player, but I think we can speak of general trends among our players or teams. IMHO, this attitude of score a goal and pull back is very common amongst our players. You see this across the board in our TM and clubs. Certain teams of course more than others, but nevertheles.
