This has been an on going debate in iran, specially when guys like fanaii and naseerzadeh are interviewed or invited to sports shows like navad and varzeshe 2.
Today after watching, one of the best refrees of the world, if not the best refree of the world, Dr. Markus Merk in the match between hsv and werder, it really made me sad to see how our refrees in iran are treated!
Refree mistakes are essential part of the game, and today markus merk showed he is no exception (ofcourse, im referring to the entire refreeing team in todays game not just Dr. merk)
On many occasions, the 3 refrees committed mistakes, some of which could have been vital.
First example, the linesman raised their flags for atleast 2 clear wrong offside calls against ailton where he could have been 1 on 1 with werder GK, wiese! anyone who watches navad here clearly sees much better offside judgements among iranian refrees in the games. ofcourse, there are wrong and right calls by both IPL and bundesliga refrees and one shoudlnt be judgemental by taking just 1 or 2 games into consideration but the fact that this was bundesligas most crucial game this season and the linesman making the same mistake repeatedly does create concerns!
Secondly, Dr. Merk didnt see wiese hitting trochowski on the back after his "dive" (ofcourse, the assisstant refree could have helped but they sucked, refer to above point). Yes, many might say it wasnt Dr merk's fault, well maybe it wasnt, but remember todays game was probably the most important game of this years german bundesliga (along with FCK-wolfsburg game) and u can say "chesh baste" that the authorities in charge would choose the best 4 refrees for this game and it was obvious from the fact that Dr. markus merk was the main refree of the game. If the best assisstant refrees of one of the most professional and efficient leagues of the world cant see and report a fight between 2 players, wat should one expect from young and "mazloom" IPL refrees? Maybe neither trochowski and wiese didnt deserve a yellow, but atleast a warning from Dr. Merk? atleast a report from the linesman to Dr. Merk?
third, Dr. Merk didnt even give a yellow card to guy demel when he played a dangerous tackle on owomoyela's thigh when the scene was right infront of him! some might argue that Dr merk saw the scene and being an expert in his field, he would know best wat to do, but a scene like that which could have resulted in serious injury for patrick owomoyela or if the tackle was a bit higher, even fatal, a yellow was the minimum Dr. Merk could have given the careless demel for his rough and unpleasant tackle. But demel didnt even get a yellow!
fourthly, Dr. Merk was even pushed around by werder players in one scene, one werder player (i think it was schulz) actually pushed him slightly when complaining to him about a decision over a freekick but markus merk didnt do anything, not even a yellow card again!
All this happening in German bundesliga, why cant it happen in iran? infact it happens all over the world! why in the world do we have to invite a refree from outside iran, pay all the expenses and sometimes perform an average refreeing which any iranian refree is capable of for a derby between esteghlal and perspolis! just like its every players dream to play in azadi under the warm breath of 100,000 hamvatans agains Iran's probalby best players under the highest media coverage, dont the refrees feel the same way too? why cant we ask them to handle such tight situations but motivate them at the same time with the same money we are paying and the same importance the media gives to a foreigner? how much of a difference is it gonna make? how else can we have more of fanayiis refreeing in the worldcup if the likes of mombeyni, torki and even moradi are not given a chance to prove themselves in the most important, sensitive and pressurized situations?
Teflak davaraye khodemun, they get low wages, they get their entire generation insulted almost throughout the game, they get shouted at and criticized by the players(even TM players!), coaches and media, and yet, they keep the football world going for people like us to sit and enjoy it, and pour out our frustrations on the refree by insulting and blaming him continuously
