Simply for the love of football

I just wanted to post a few haphazard stuff, not that they are related to TM or Iran or anything. But just becoz football is played for the sake of the game by this club. Not to defeat or thrash the opposition. Not to kill the opponents' hope. not to break their bones (we know who likes this one) or make them leave the pitch on a stretcher. Not for the money or ... . But simply for the love of the game itself.

    first point. HIGH DEFENSE LINE.
Show me one other team that consistently and in every bloody game, no matter how strong or world renowned the opposition, plays such a high bloody line for its 3 (actually 2 as both RB and LB are more attacking the opponent's flanks than staying back). NO OTHER TEAM has such a high line.
here are a few pics to show this

(do notice in the second pic, the RIGHT BACK, Alves is AHEAD of the freaking forward line, on the bottom right of the pic!!!!!!!! hehehe. I mean what godly business does he have to be standing so high up the pitch? )

Now, when a team holds such a high line, therefore compresses the space for the opponents so much that they can easily win the ball back and press their defense to such an extent to force them to merely kick the ball up.

It also allows for more accurate passing between players as the distances are shorter and players dont have to travel too far to find spaces or receive balls. they basically make the ball run, rather than themselves running after balls.

Another advantage and positive out of this is the team doesnt spend too much energy running up and down the field constantly. by keeping a smaller radius of activity, the players can pace themselves for more than 90 minutes of the game and not get tired. worthy of note to our kind of players.

What do you need for such a high line? tall, aware defenders who are quick on their heals (spinning and pivoting) and those who read the game well.
Nobody in their right mind counts Puyol, pique or even mascherano as "quick" players. so how do they do it? How do they compensate for their lack of speed ... unless they read the game well and can predict the opponents' moves ahead of time.
Of course, the keeper also has to be extremely quick, good with his feet and read the game well to know when HE shd be coming out and covering for the defenders.
Granted, the masterful Abidal is also always there to sweep & clean up after pique's misses. But the philosophy still holds.

Even during freekicks, they still hold such a high line, so far away from their goal.

I think our CD's (TM's Achille's heel) shd watch barca games to learn how to compensate for their lack of speed through other means.
afterall neither pique nor puyol or mascherano have come from Mars. they have 2 legs ... just like hosseini and aghili and montazeri and ... etc.

As for the leverkusan game, I found this lovely little cartoon bit with a nod to the madrid idiots (courtesy of my pals in totalbarca.com )

And as a bonus, here are Messi's first 200 goals scored for Barca.
    Enjoy.
I particularly like goals # 179, 182 and 195. But I guess #19 is carved into history books anyway

Now, you may ask why all the Barca news. well, becoz I'm very happy as I hear Pep has finally agreed to sign another contract (he does it on yearly basis! which just irks the fans no end). And aside from the truckload of impressive talent coming from their "B" side (Like tello, Muniesa, Sergio, Fontas, ... ), they may be adding a certain dutch player to their squad for next season. a certain RVP.
Seems they have already sealed the deal with valencia's livewire, Jordi Alba.

Did you know they have kept their "B" side (which is their "omid" team as we have it in Iran) at the lower division and dont promote them to the primera league, even if they get the top spots at the end of the year? But this "B" team is the one that constantly and consistently feeds their main team throughout the year. (little tidbit: Pep, before taking on the main team was the coach of their "B" side and brought the likes of Pedro, Bousqeutes, ... along with himself)
hmm ... something to learn by our clubs who have no idea of "investing in youth system".

    Thanks for sharing..
Great system........and you described it well.....
It is probably a system for teams who want to take advantage of thier higher skilled players who do not lose one to one battles.

^ agreed. I also think it has much to do with the simple task of "trapping the ball" properly.
you have full control of the ball the moment you trap it properly. and therefore you can pass or do whatever you want.
but if you try to trap the ball and the ball ricochets off your shin bone to 3-4 meters away, you have to run to it and deny the marker and by then, you're off balance and lost time and ... . especially when in attacking mode or tight, crowded spaces.

I think if our players learn to trap the ball properly, they'd have elevated their game by at least 30-40%.
or in other words, your FIRST TOUCH of the ball shd be very good and based on the right decision. be it simply trapping the ball or as a pass or even a straight shot.

On the historic occasion of messi breaking the goal record at barca, I present to you NOT the goals scored, but the top 100 ASSISTS he has provided for his mates.
I started picking my favorites, but I really saw no point as there were just too many.
      like # 95, 94, 88, 87, 86, 79, 77, 70, 61, 42, 37, 36, 28, 23, 18, 12 ...
some of these are simply outlandish and defy laws of physics and probabilities.

Peyman jaan, let me put some obvious points in here:

I think the majority if not all the fans appreciate such beautiful style. But when it comes to choose between winning/losing and that, they are divided.

In extreme example, If I am fan of a Fajr Sepasi Shiraz, and my team is scheduled to play Barca, I would go crazy seeing Fajr defensive line line up as in the picture. We would be set for world record in football match if we do so.

The point is, if my team is Barca, I can afford to play like that. Even if I concede a goal or two, I can easily make up for it with my expensive and amazing players. I'll keep the game beautiful for my fan, Peyman, and most likely win the match by putting the pressure as described above.

If my team in not Barco, but facing Barco, and my job is on the line, I would tear those pictures apart, most likely destroy whoever suggests me to do so, and make sure I have strong solid defensive line, with no space behind the line to be raped by Messi and Co.

e.g. Alshabab gave lot of space behind their line to fast offensive line of Perspolis and guess what? The rape was in progress ....

On the side of extreme however, putting 7,8, or 9 players to defend would be wrong too. If I can't manage to play smart defensive game, such as the one Denizli put in first half against Saudis, then I am also failing.

Most teams need to find a balanced line up and formation to play, and according to the opponent adjust. Each extreme would usually mean trouble, that is unless you are Barca ....

yes, well , the next time TM plays barca let us hope we dont employ such reckless and risky tactics.
however, in the meantime, we can play a slightly more positive game than our usual one. especially since we are grouped NOT with the likes of barcelona, but qatar, uzbeks and lebanon. even if we adopt a cautious style against the south koreans.

I'm not saying we shd copy barca. and this thread is not drawing comparison between TM and barca nor is it advocating barca's style of football. I did say this is just some haphazard stuff not particularly related to TM.
merely going over a few aspects of the football team I try not to miss, any week. at the same time, there are things our lads and TM can adopt. even if not for the entire game, but for moments they need to press. for example if we get a reliable pair in central defense (I'm hoping CQ would try a hosseini-montazeri combo), given the kind of players at TM's disposal, I dont think why we shdnt try such a press and imposing formation on the more susceptible teams like lebanon or qatar.

nevertheless, the purpose of the thread is not advocating for TM strategies. rather , going over what barca does best and enjoying watching them execute it.

I am with you on this Peyman jaan. I would be more careful about Uzbeks though, but I believe Iran is a very talented team as I emphesized after Ghotbi's discussion. We can be very strong with Carlos and show our power in Asia with more work done.

I also agree something needs to be done about central defense. That is our weak point and could get us in trouble. Carlos needs to find another Pouladi or two for that spot.

As much as I love Barca, I think what you described suits only and only Barca due to extremely talented team. Not many players can hold on to the ball in the opponent back-yard with that comfort and confidence.
Came too late and the video is gone.
              Cheers,

Above statement is extreemly foundemental along with psycological/intelectual balance of a player....
in cases most seen in Iranian players such as :

                Traping skills
                Over hasitance on scoring positions
slow and under-reaching passes to fellow players
indecisions before possessions or after possessions
                lack of killer instincts
lack of confidence in one's own accurecy
lack of understanding of what constitues a good " shot "...Harmony in Thigh, knee, lower leg, speed of release, and ankle.
Lack of control of " Ankle " for accurecy

Watching the exciting semifinal first leg of bayern vs madrid, I was amazed how the germans effectively use the flanks and tortured the pampered madrid defense, who until this stage had the tremendous luck of not facing even a single strong team (czka, apoel, zagreb, ...). Especially the way their flank players n fullbacks CROSSED THE BALL. None were those loopy air balls that take 6 minutes to come down. Almost all were at great pace and adequate height. And that's what tortured the madrid defense who looked totally outclassed and were as usual extremely lucky they escaped with only 2 goals conceded ... no thanks to some very poor touches by Gomez.
So I was wondering if such technique of crossing can be practiced over n over by our lads. Do away wt high loopy ones. Do away wt crosses too bloody close to the keeper. Do away wt the the slow crawling balls.
Heidari, Mahini, Pouladi, Hajsafi, and the rest can certainly do these as they've shown before. But not consistently. This is not some superhuman ability. They just need to be more consistent and that is very much possible.
For example ss has suffered at ACL in its 2nd & 3rd game due to very very poor crossing, many of which were too close to the keeper with so much height and air time to allow the keepers to judge & collect those balls. It was quite frustrating to watch so many crosses go to waste SO DAMNED EASILY!!!

Hope CQ's staff can take care of this

                    A tale of two penalties

Two penalties that defined the European season and threw out all bets and calculations by pundits. While Messi’s dent on the cross-bar spelled doom and gloom for the Nou Camp crowd, hardly believing their beloved team too tired and incapable in breaking down the double layered 8 man defensive wall of Chelsea, Sergio Ramos’ shot made even more headlines and was the source of much amusement and jolly among football fans.

Honorable mention: Ronaldo’s miss that got the ball rolling (pun not intended) to keep Mourinho on his knees even after the referee blew his whistle for the winner of the tie. Ronaldo, who proved quite adept in taking penalties this season, accumulating double digit number of goals scored off penalties, shot an easy one that Neuer had little trouble deflecting.

A few ribs and jokes circulating the internet about Ramos' penalty:

                    - Apparently the Airforce and the commercial air control have landed all planes in South Africa as they have spotted Ramos’ penalty ball on radar and it will be passing in South African air space within the next 20 minutes....destination Antarctica

                    - It is on a world tour..

                    - A granny and a S.Ramos came to heaven's door and God asked them why are they here?
Granny: I am a good person and I did a lot of praying.
                    God: Ok, come in.
                    S. Ramos: I just came for a ball!!!!

                    - North Korea has contacted Sergio Ramos seeking information on how to get projectiles to leave earth's atmosphere.

                    - There will be a happy kid in Africa with a souvenir CL ball.

                    ***********
Yes these penalties denied us, the fans, of yet another El Clasico in the final of the Champions league. But haven’t we had enough El Clasicos in the past to satisfy our hunger? Having said that I think we should not take anything away from Bayern who totally deserved to be in the final. They showed great composure and that renowned German resoluteness to reach the final. I only wonder would Chelsea decide to park the bus in the final too? Afterall it is only played in one leg and there’s no away goal rule.

Neither Bayern is like Barca. While barca’s philosophy and esthetic style has its own merits, given the type of players and usual strategies they follow, it draws a clear contrast to Bayern’s capabilities. Chelsea could afford to park the bus and huddle in the middle of their box, never worrying about shots from range or even those crosses coming from flanks as Barca’s players were far shorter and less physical than the English team’s defenders. But Bayern is an entirely different matter. Not only they will shoot from range and they have great shooters to force the defenders to come out to close on them, they also have tall physical attacking players who can and will have a real say in crosses and corners peppered in from flanks through the likes of Lahm. So if you are a Chelsea fan, I suggest you start praying.

Neurer's Pre-PK, confidence-defusing antics were 85% culprit for Madrid's ridiculously taken PK's..! as much as I hated the end result, I so enjoyed to see that from him..! reminds me of myself..!

That dude is a beast of a keeper..! haven't watched any of the EU games for over a year now, but I'm surprised Man U didn't take him after that season when Karimi was his teammate @ schalke ..! Probably because the tightwad ferguson wanted to pay him peanuts..??

na, ferguson was leaning more towards de gea, his GK coach eric steele was leaning more towards neuer.
however, neuer said he wants to stay in germany and in munich cos his girl friend is also from munich. besides, why would neuer want to go to a team who gets knocked out in CL group stage when he has the chance to win the trophy?

No, because Bayern already had their hands on him, who have usually an advantage in signing German top players.

All I can say is that it was two of the most memorable and exciting semi-finals I have experienced in the Champions league. These two matches quite vividly reminds me of the European Championship of 1976 which was different format all together and only 4 teams competed for the trophy. That was 4 matches ( the semi finals , third place and the final) of top quality football , huge entertainment value , and results beyond expectations.

I am afraid , Barcelona for once , ran out of ideas and also for once , failed to change tactics continuing playing the same way without success. I shed no tears for Guardiola for leaving . I think it is the perfect time for him and Barca. He has done a splendid job in his career.
