Islamic Republic had no choice but to give top money to good players...as otherwise they would have left the country for the Arab states....something very hard to handle for the system....
in the other hand,forign players who have some talents would rather live in countries with more freedom..if they had any choice.....and those who stay in IRAN, mostly have IRAN as thier last resort.
In short.....Good talents can not play in IRAN any more than one year or two at the most.

^^ easily the bulk of them are crap players who hardly made any difference except charge 10 times what a potential omid player would!
check how many of them have stayed beyond their first season in a club. very very few. many of them are kicked out inside the season even!


at the same time, many who are fired before their contracts run out sue the clubs and not only get their fees, but also create this negative reputation for iran and iranian clubs.

not to mention the mistreatment of the poorer african players who are subject to some of the worst racist behaviors/treatment by iranian managers (iranians themselves are quite racist. imagine the hardcores of these!!!) which aside from the reputation matter, humanly speaking it is borderline criminal

the sooner we get rid of 98% of the agents, the sooner we'd have a better quality football in Iran.
unfortunately, given the system and the regime, and the culture of bribery having set in as THE method of business, it is an impossibility!!!

Many players left Iran to Play in Arab country for better money (Mobali,Teymourian.....are just an example) and "government" did not paid them more to stay.

It is your statement and burden of proof is on you. All needed was one example to null your statement claim.

There we go again with loads of populistic statements.

The legionnaires are very important to our league and thankfully the quality is constantly improving.

It's nothing more than a myth that we would be better off with less legionnaires and more youth players. We barely have 50 players which could be in consideration for a TM which would not being beaten by average Asian teams regularily, while we have a league with 18 teams with like 25 players each to fill, which makes 450 players. We would be on lower amateur level without the current portion of foreigners and that would be largely to the disadvantage of the few really quality players and talents we have very obviously.

IFF has set a new criteria this season (or next?) for hiring foreign players which is good IMO:

Players from Africa, North America or Oceania must have played in their national teams (or U23) at least once in the past three years.
Players from Asia must have played in their national teams or ACL at least once in the last three years.
Players from South America or Europe must have played at their top devision leagues at least once during the past three years.

The criteria might be far from perfect, but it will at least prevent very crappy players to sign contracts with our clubs just for the middlemen and club managers to make money.

That is not a good enogh reasoning......as I was talking about a policy that did not want to lose all domestic players and create a poletical issue.
to see it ....immagin,if all TM players were legioners !!..it would have been embarressing for the regim......
with the latest news of UAE banning Iranian players,we are going to see a reduction of domestic contracts.

which one would you take zayed at 600 million tomans or khalatbari at 2 milliard toman? for me it is quite an easy choice. in my opinion zayed is a much better forward than khalatbari and the fact that he is asking for only 30 percent of what khalatbari wants Persepolis management would have to be out of their minds to sign khalatbari at 2 milliards tomans over zayed at 600 million. frankly this price difference between the two is only indicative of one thing and that is khalatbari is asking waaay too much.

The bulk of them are crap players , rejects or player who found refuge in Iran's league where no one else would even look at them.

Brazilian players are dime a dozen and they would play anywhere for any kind of money. There are even Brazilian players in Cambodian league and Laos!!. For crying out loud , they are robbing the food of poor people as well!!! Better than the poverty is slums of Rio , I guess. Africans and Eastern Europeans are also on the similar footings.

Out of the list that St Mark produced , I wonder what is the percentage of them foreigners who actually played for their national teams and how regular were they ?

We were taking about the wisdom of hiring forign players ,and wisdom of paying top money to domestic players when domestic clubs do not realy have any revenue to justify such investement.....

If domestic clubs does't have enough fund to hire a player ,it will be unwise to do so.
I am not against hiring quality foreign players when club has sufficient fund.

Two years ago Foulad officials in search of a good OMF recruited Andre Reinaldo 29 years old Brazilian who used to play mostly for Arab clubs . He ended up to be just another mediocre player and ended up being used as reserve sub. This season he only managed to play 6 full game . For 11 games he has total of zero minutes of play and rest of games he was a sub. After his excuse once again Foulad is in search of a good OMF. for past weeks they tried a worthless Brazilian Reject Jose Carlos Garcia but after week of trial with Foulad was rejected and this week Foulad is trying another worthless 29 years old Romanian player Claudio Ionescu who used to play in Moldova and Cyprus. Let see what happen to him.

There we go again with loads of populistic statements.

The legionnaires are very important to our league and thankfully the quality is constantly improving.

It's nothing more than a myth that we would be better off with less legionnaires and more youth players. We barely have 50 players which could be in consideration for a TM which would not being beaten by average Asian teams regularily, while we have a league with 18 teams with like 25 players each to fill, which makes 450 players. We would be on lower amateur level without the current portion of foreigners and that would be largely to the disadvantage of the few really quality players and talents we have very obviously.

when the bulk of them are not as good as the home grown ones, then one can claim most of them dont help the quality of football.
nobody's saying the principle of bringing foreign imports is not good. Japan started that way and look where they are now. But the difference is they were more wise in SELECTING the imports QUALITATIVELY.
the problem with Iran is quality is thrown aside and only quantity is considered (which means more money in the pockets of agents)!

as majid said, lets see how many of these chaps have actually played in their nationak teams or top clubs. I doubt more than 10-15%.
which sounds about right as only about 10-15% of them are of the kind of quality that would help a league
