IRAN - SAUDI ARABIA (WAFF Games) - 12/9/12

    FIRST HALF:

When you play s deep inside your half, you’re ALLOWING the opponent to dominate you. It’s not so much that we are inferior or they are superior. It’s basically spineless strategy by coaches.
Unless you’re playing an opponent waaaaay above your standards, something is wrong with your strategies when 60% of your passes are between your 4 defenders and about 80% between these 4 and the 2 def-mids!

When you have only one striker who is always left alone against 2 or 3 defenders, then you are a fool to expect him to receive any balls. And it is even more moronic if in such a case you hoof the ball from defense, trying to feed your lone striker. No wonder we don’t score too many and our strikers are the most jobless in TM games. Because they are always stranded up field away from the bulk of the team. Moronic defensive football!

It pains me to see the opponents easily pass inside our half and carry the ball from their defense to mid to forwards. But when it comes to us, we want to hoof it and totally take midfield out. Why? Doesn’t CQ trust our midfielders?
And because we take out our midfield, it is no wonder our moves look so haphazard and clueless, mostly based on individuals’ skills than anything else.

    - Why is this guy khanzadeh even there? I cant think of any reason BUT being in pp. he hasn’t done anything to justify him wearing Iran’s jersey.

    - I am still not convinced with nazari. I mean I haven’t seen anything stellar from the lad.

    - It is such a relief and pleasant change to see our keeper come out to collect balls outside his 6 yard box.

    ***************

    SECOND HALF:

Nazari, so far in his past 3-4 TM games has shown very average. Scores about 5 or at best 6 (out of 10). So my question is why is he a regular staple at TM rosters but lads like Ebrahimi aren’t even called up, despite showing far superior performances at sepahan? Is it not yet another name-based pick SOLELY based on the country he plays in and nothing more?
I’m not saying let stop calling him. He’s young and has potential. But at the moment we have quite a few other players who have better quality than him who are continuously neglected (ebrahimi, milad nouri, mosalman, …)

I must ask a similar question about omid namazi as CQ’s assistant. What has he done to be added to a national team? What are his achievements? Qualifications? Is it not mainly because he can speak English? Isn’t a light bench one of the reasons for CQ’s lack of accountability and sense of entitlement/superiority towards our football?
Why do we reduce the value of our national team (bench and jersey) with such selections? Shouldn’t people EARN it and show superior qualifications to justify being in a national team? Be ghole yek pishkesvat, “pirahan TM ro be moft nafrooshim va bi arzesh nakonim”.

The team slowly became a bit more competitive with Ebrahimi’s inclusion. Perhaps we needed extra muscle down in the middle. His passes also were quite nice. Which makes him sitting on the bench even more of a question.

a draw was fair and hopefully the team will gel more and be able to defeat bahrain and yemen to advance

I think we were lucky to get away with a draw. Saudi Arabia was the better team today and there was little I liked from our side.

The few positive notes were Makani and some nice touches from the overall not convincing Oladi.

While this young defense expectedly was a bit shaky, I had high hopes in our midfielders, who totally disappointed.

Also Yaghoub Karimi and Payam Sadeghian disappointed me very much, only trying to draw fouls and causing so many turnovers.

What particualrily annoys me is the number of freekicks we give away. We gave the opponent like 30 excellent set piece opportunities, normally you are punished for that.

It was similar against Uzbekistan and there we paid for it. Also we conceded the goal against Lebanon from a set piece and the disallowed goal in Tashkent too.

Not to talk about the two efforts from Korea hitting our woodwork.

We definitely need to train set pieces defensively and for God's sake not give away so many freekicks!!

CQ should have included Rahmani (Foolad captain) in the squad... But in any case I hope the team improves and "gels together" after this initial match.

So like Rijkaard he was in the stands. This was clear anyways, funny so e haters thought that Kuwaiti TV didn't show him means he wasn't there, lol.

But the article is a bit strange, I doubt he made that decision when he saw Rijkaard in the stands.

I just watched the highlights and clearly Saudi Arabia had more scoring chances. Aside from the question of CQ's dedication to this tournament, I am very worried about the player selections. Are we going to rely on Oladi to score goals in this tournament? Too bad Afshin couldn't be there... At least Khalatbari would have been helpful. I do think it is important that Iran wins the tournament specially since it is the first time Saudi Arabia is participating. If KSA wins it now, they are going to set a trend for the future. I openly declare that at this point I am not happy with the choice of CQ as the Iran head coach. I wish we could have gotten someone like Guus Hiddink or Luis van Gaal instead.

Frank was sitting on stand because he was not a head coach of Saudi youth team that was playing while Carlos is the head coach of the team that was playing
Khalid Alkoroni is head coach of Saudi team and he was on the bench

kinda rare for camera's to not spot a big football character like Carlos all game long, and bring attention to him, in order to give credibility to the tourney..!! he must have been very inconspicuous about his presence..!! to me indicative of how he doesnt really want to be coaching this tourney and has been forced by IFF to do so, due to the pressures stemming from the Uzbek loss..! so this is his way of rebelling against Kafashians decision to force him out of his Xmas vacation plans..!!
like St. Mark mentions, He was officially Iran's coach in this game, while Frank is only the Senior SA coach, who is attending the U23 game in order to scout talent first hand..!!

anyways, on the game, i only saw from min 33 on, and overall we seemed to be in control towards the end of 1st half, although not really threatening offensively by any means..! in the 2nd half, we got manhandled all over the place by saudi's and it wasnt till O. Ebrahimi's timely Sub that we finally got to settle down and gain some much needed possession on the ball...!!
the overall Big problem with our footballers is the Lack of POISE in face of defensive pressure and Too SLOW Execution .! once opponents press us, TM looses focus and totally become unorganized and everyone then resort to ali asghari bezan ziresh football, which only exasperate the situation..!!
i thought both of our Wingers sucked ass in this game and their gross under-performance (especially defensively) overwhelmed our CMs ..! our D line biggest problem was that they weren't in tune with each other but was individually decent..!! young Khandzadeh, had a few classy touches and looked promising to me..!!
Sosha brought much more stability to the position and looked solid on many dangerous set pieces thrown at him..! he did punch a ball right at the SA player once and was lucky that it didnt bounce in..! but tbh he really couldnt afford to try to snach that highly contentious ball in, cause had he spilled it in that traffic, it woulda been a 100% goal..!!
Oladi, was Simply the Only iranian player on the pitch who wasnt nervous and his confidence on the ball was very refreshing to see..! He was the Lone Offensive threat and played his role as good as anybody could have possibly done, considering he had like Zero offensive support from the whole team..!! To me him and sosha were the MVPs..! Oladi seemed the only player, really ready for our senior squad, the rest of the squad need more international experience in order to get aquatinted with much Faster Pace of the game of international competition than the slow IPL they have been used to..!! Milad Nouri looked promising too and i was pleased with most of his touches..!
Im still wanting to see Much more Improvements from our coaching staff on our Offensive game plans and execution...! our formation is way too damn defensive and conservative and seem to have little to no offensive rhythm to it..!! Our players are obviously not comfortable playing this formation and our results so far, scream for a change..!! be it Risky...!!

                  More details from Namazi.

                  New deal

He is not sure if Queiroz will sit on bench as Head coach for next game.
According to him, CQ is final decision maker and for now he monitor this team and coaches while his assistants are responsible for training

                  .

yeah, I did notice a chap with groucho marx mask. maybe it was CQ, trying to be inconspicuous

otherwise he is well known enough to be spotted among those 60-70 fans
either way, CQ is still calling the shots, setting the line ups, formations, strategy & tactics, ... and he is ultimately responsible for the performance. irrespective of him sitting in the stands or back at the hotel. the only thing that MAY be in namazi's hands is in-game instructions and substitutions. nothing really heart warming given his nonexistent qualifications and achievements as a coach.
(although there is this devise I hear that's being used that enables people in the stands or fartehr away to send instructions, a gadget called cell phone)

I didnt delve too much on team performance as this was probably the first time these 11 lads were actually playing together. so it is a bit premature to expect great team coordination and teamwork. So it is ok to be a bit lenient on them.

But the way the team was arranged and its formation and set up which is the coaches' responsibility leaves a lot to be desired. Lets hope they get it right against bahrain and yemen.
and since only the best second placed team gets to advance among the 3 groups, we should not leave it to the last day to see if we get enough points and goals scored to advance. I hope the coaches are aware of this and understand we need to score goals enough to ensure a competitive rank. otherwise with another draw, or a low win (1-0), we MAY bow out and not qualify for the semis!

Queiroz decided again to watch this game from stand . In my opinion it's very dishonest not be able to tell it as it is and bordering deception.
If CQ want to let Namazi be the coach for these games it is understandable , GN did in the past letting Mazloomi be the coach.
Appearence of dishonesty is how they present it to the public who are ultimate boss. IFF clearly stated CQ will be the head coach during these games ( not to forget CQ is also team manager beside being h coach) ) and so far Namazi sit on the bench and claim CQ like to monitor better from stand. Why did't CQ do that for TM games in Iran ?
This is sorry excuse and dishonest presentation.
That raises question of "timidity" that "someone" suggested recently.

Psychology is about 50% of the game specially when it comes to the youth. If the head coach is not on the team's bench, it sends a message of disengagement and lowers the level of performance by his players. It's as if he was red carded in the previous game and had to watch from the stands. I am thinking CQ was forced by the IFF to be in Kuwait for this tournament and this is his way of protesting.
