i think sepahan will now have the record of the most games played in ACL by any iranian club..........WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!

How is it possible man?
SS has got 2 championship and 2 times runner up apart from those time they didnt qualified to higher levels.

PP has won the third place 2 times and 2 times 4th place.
PP has participated in ACL 7 times and with this year it would be 8th.
SS has got more than this for sure then how come Sepahan???

ACL is the pro version of Asian cup, it has only been in place for 7-8 years.

yep. SS and PP have qualified many times to the Asian cup long before there was no real competition in our league. with SS winning it twice and going close to winning it again.
But it has been the ACL that both PP and SS have failed to establish any name for themselves.
both have been there twice and both times knocked out in the group stages.
maybe this year it will change.

^ This year two teams will advance from each group. Besides, unlike most of our previous representatives, our four teams have all kept their last year's good form and are on top of the IPL table.

I hope three of our teams can advance to the knockout stage of this year's ACL competition.

i am only talking about ACL not the previous Micky Mouse competition.....who really cares about what happened in the other competition, what has PP and SS done since the last time they won the competition, back when there was no J-league, no UAE league, no K-league,!!!!!!!! they were playing amateur teams in asia that now many of them don't exist!!!

Hello, who says there was no J-league? then Jubilo Iwata who beat SS in Azadi came from where?
Zico start playing in J-league since 93.
Our players used to go to UAE league since 15 years.
IMO the only thing which is changed is the format and nothing else same as our own league.
IPL, Azadegan or anything it is.
Even the current format UCL has introduced since 10 years i guess so we should say before it was a Micky Mouse competition?

J-league, K-league, UAE league as we know it...........sure the had leagues before then!!! before they really pumped money into their leagues!!!

1)azadegan league wasnt so big in asia either to think iranian teams could just cruise their ways past other clubs from other asian countries.Iranian league has also improved. but the others have developed faster than we have and now, the competition is more fierce than before, but that doesnt mean there wasnt any competition in the 90s.....

2)if it was that easy, how come iranian teams werent winning the tournament left and right every year?? teams from saudi, japan and korea have been doing very well in ACL since the 90s and winning the ACL...
saudi arabian football and korean football was dominant in the 90s as well...even japan started creeping in mid 90s and finally broke into the scene by entering worldcup 98!

3)when esteghlal won the ACL in the 70s, they were beating teams like hapoel and macabi of israel who were a great footballing nation... u wanna belittle that as well just like u belittle everything about esteghlal or perspolis??

and just to let u know, if this same format of ACL was being followed in previous years, then esteghlal and perspolis would have made it to ACL many times over by finishing in top 3 in IPL.
and if ACL was to follow the same format it was following all these previous years, sepahan wouldnt have been in ACL this year!

^^our football is still behind, and we are still riding the after shocks of world cup, nothing has changed in our football since 1970's we still have talent but no organization post revolution and pre revolution, if you see PP, SS, PAS not winning more cups, is due to the poor organization, that is all, none the less you can't disregard the level of play from 1970 to post ACL 2009, the same teams that have won the trophy in the past are still winning the trophy in 2008, why? organization, organization, organization, whether it was the japanes clubs or the korean or even the Saudis, with organization they were still kick ass with their amature leagues, sure azadegan was amature too, in all fairness, but no organization,.......................since the J league, K league, UAE went FULLY pro, you bet they will win more cups in the future......our IPL is still a joke!!!! more like a circus

exactly, totally agreed with u...and to be able to win trophies in asia, even with this joke of an organization whether it was called azadegan or IPL isnt as easy as some think....

Looks like Imad Rida who is with Iraq NT in Persian Gulf tournament has got injured badly from his knee and cannot play at least for one month.
