TM players didn't celebrate their goals either. Hands/arms up after the goal, very subdued. It was a nice reminder of where their hearts are.

The TM fans in the stands were in full effect and brought the chants and cheers. To see the smiles on their faces with this win was everything. I even saw a young man on the shoulders of another dancing freely with his arms. The minutes of joy vs. decades of pain and suffering is the least our people deserve.

I hope for TM sahel and TM football to bring the same joy to our 80 million people tomorrow and in Qatar.

Some observations from the final today (Iran vs. Brazil)

1. The team was clearly instructed to sing the national anthem at the start of this match (unlike the semifinal match yesterday when none them sang the anthem); they may have also been told to take off the black wrist band (#11 didn't have it on in the final, but did in SF).

2. During the match after scoring, Seyed simulated pulling his long hair back and cutting it with scissors, in a symbolic gesture to support the Iranian women who cut their hair in protest.

3. One of the goal scorers held up a raised fist after scoring

4. During the award ceremony and team photo at the end of the ceremony, the same player as above (I believe) held up a raised fist.

5. During the same award ceremony photos, a non-player staff (trainer?, assistant?) was holding up his arms with the thumbs up and had a large grin on his face. Seyed chastised him in real time (about his form of celebration). The same staff member then held up both arms now with the "V" or peace sign. Another player quickly came over the physically pulled his arms down.

Despite all the restrictions placed on them and despite winning the tournament, TM still made a point to remind all of us and the fans of the greater events happening at home.
