I don’t remember Pooladi being a controversial pick. He had solidified himself as TM LB by the time WC 2014 started.

A lot of people here wanted Beikzadeh to play in that position. I don't think it was the biggest controversy though (not taking khalatbari and a young and hungry looking Azmoun were the big ones)

Some of you are clamoring about the exclusion of Zahedi. I have been following him, and while he's a promising talent for the next cycle, I agree with CQs assessment to not include him. Most of you swoon over is height (lol), as if that is a big deal. It's not. This isn't the NBA or American football. And Zahedi is no target-man on the international level. He would be more of a lamp post. Again, he has promise, but for now..

1) Zahedi dribbles with his head down, as if he's still playing at the high school level. Yes, he has some moves for a bigger forward, but he is definitely not a superb athlete who can pull those same moves he uses for Puskas, and used for Olimpik, against international competition on the WC stage. This is a different level, and he would be a non-factor against England, and possibly card-out against Wales and USA for trying to do too much, since he is an aggressive player.

2) His shooting is good with regards to accuracy and power, but my goodness, he takes forever to get it off. His wind-up is too long. It may sound silly, but against WC competition, one has far smaller of a window to actually get a shot off, versus being closed-down and stripped.

3) He doesn't have the experience at the WC level. Even if he had the tools, being able to use them in a faster-pace game full of players at or above your level partially is determined by being calm under that type of pressure. He's never experienced it. And as a sub, he wouldn't have time to become accommodated to it.

4) Going back to his athleticism: How is this kid going to "get in the game", if he can't keep up with it? Who is he going to beat? He does not (from what I have seen) compensate for his lack of pace by timing good runs.

He is surely on the radar for next WC, but is not ready for this one.

lol Cmon man no one is saying Zahedi is the next coming of Van Basten; we just need some bodies! Azmoun is coming off injury and ansarifard is no spring chicken.

All i am saying is, what happens when we are down a goal and theres 10 min left? To me, having a tall physical striker who can be a danger on set pieces sounds helpful. Also, it wouldn't have cost us anything to take him! We are taking only 25 players when we can take 26!! I still don't get it but in CQ we trust i guess.

Beikzadeh got injured before the WC I believe, therefore he was taken as an extra player but never recovered.

Khalatbari was a surprising decision, he could've been a great impact sub, it must have been about his behavior.

Azmoun wasn't ready yet during that time he was too young & inexperienced

That's a very specific scenario. I don't rate him right now; he's not even a Brian McBride at this point in his career.

I remember Jürgen Löw the german coach saying age is nothing, this time i agree. The only youngster we would have who can be helpful was sayyadmanesh who is injured, others are not ready yet or have not been given the chance before to join TM, it was great that CQ invited so many young players for Nicaragua

An NHL team won a competive hockey game by playing a Zamboni driver in goal after injury to their starter. He had never played professionally. So now leaving a guy like Zahedi off the team is better than going to WC with an empty roster spot? Heck I would even take you on the team over an empty spot! Lol

I was most annoyed by the snub of AK8..!
sure @ the time he wasn’t in the form of his life but ffs he was AK Modafakin 8..! No player in history of TM coulda turn a game on its head better than him with a dribble/pass/pure composure & game smarts ..! After that Azmoun was the most controversial & many more fancied KB whom I didn’t care much for ..!
He took way, WAY too many defenders (including a completely busted beikzade & some others who had no business being called up like beitashour etc. this over reliance on D costed us the most in advancement objectives when we faced the group finale & had to come outa our defensive shell in search of required 3 points & got exposed badly once parked bus opened up ..!
