CQ was given the job late and could not follow Iranian football in depth to pick 2 or 3 of these young players - he had to go with players he trusted.

honestly I watched hosseinzadeh closely last few games. He could be in the list, yes. But make an impact on WC level, I highly doubt it. It would have been more a nice thing in terms of giving him experience. And ultimately with a few camps with TM, maybe he could actually make impact, but just 3 games this season for charleroi is not enough to guarantee inclusion.

Zahedi I think issue may have more been attitude/no guarantee of his mesh with the team off the field.

Nooraftkan was given too many chances in the midfield, defense, he just wasn't convincing enough to be on the list. Sarlak on the other hand could have been a bit better than Cheshmi, but whom am I to argue, coach knows better.

We need someone like Zahedi with good physique against a tall and strong England, Wales and USA. Hosseienzadeh too small in size and not enough experience at top level.

First of all, thank you.

Second, I found it odd to think that CQ, a guy who releases lists late, doesn’t like press conferences, and is ultra conservative, is going to hold back inviting Azmoun because someone said so.

The regime is dumb, but they are very careful in their battles with high profile people. Azmoun isn’t some poor person from a village with no profile they can just kill and forget about.

right now quite frankly there are hundreds of tweets and posts in general online about TM by people who have no clue if a ball is round or square.

these are false intentionally planted rumors to distract people from actual issues in Iran. About Ronaghi who is going to starve to death, about UN inviting actual criminals for meetings, about IR and their goons threatening to execute protestors…

yes CQ waits to the last minute, yes those things you say do happen…….but in this particular scenario, it is bizarre, unseen, unheard of for a major announcement like this to be delayed without any reason and knowing everything we know about Sardar plus the reports (some from good agencies/journalists and some tabloid esuqe ones) then followed up with Kaveh’s post….I think it is very clear what it’s not just a made up story.

end of day what matters is we have CQ and nobody messes with him not even the mullahs and he has sardar’s back who is like a son to him.

Has Zahedi had attitude or off the field issues? Honest question btw, not trying to be sarcastic. I know he had those steroid accusations but that was a while ago.

I will admit that I have not watched a lot of him but from clips that I have seen he has a decent strength and would at least give opposing defenders something to think about on corners.

Obvi I support CQ but I hope he smartens up and doesn't just go with a smaller squad to a WC. Deschamp can do that because his team is filled with world class players!

Haji, forget Hosseinzadeh or Zahedi, he could take an Azadegan league bench player for all I care. Just take the maximum number of players in case of Injuries or suspensions.

When you have players made of glass like JB and Karimi, and or questionable players like Sardar, you have to cover all your bases.

I'm willing to bet his decision was based on some bullshit old school mentality of "I only take the players who deserve to be there" type of logic.

Also just wanted to add that I would have taken an extra striker instead of 4th goalie due to Azmoun’s fitness concerns. Zahedi would have been my choice as he can as main forward or off the side as part of a front 3.

i think CQ was at least somewhat advised/swayed away from even giving a trial to Zahedi in the prior call up and his intense stance against IR on SM played a major role in his eventual absence..!!?
i believe had he invited him in the mix for the uruguay friendly then he woulda surely made him part of his final squad list..!!
On Sardar, im certain CQ was intent on taking him along even if he was completely crooked and stood little to no chance of making an appearance in gutter, and Carlito simply isnt the type(eskoocher) to be pushed around and denied on his preferred travel squad choices by anyone in the federation..!! simple as that..!

still think taking 4 keeper his most retarded decision in this call up list... (even if one has injury concerns..!!) otherwise no surprises and just about as good of list as its available ..!!
