He is one of the worst quality footballers I have ever seen wear a TM shirt…..CQ made the right call on that one although I wish he would have given that spot to a promising youngster to at least be there for the experience where it would have benefited us in the future.

Team Melli's friendly with Iraq has been cancelled before any sign off!

Such a shame that FFIRI, Football Federation of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan Football Federation did not use March opportunity to either host Navruz Cup or CAFA Championship!!!

FFIRI should get their act together, stop wasting time and setup friendly with any of these: Cameroon, South Africa, Liberia, Burundi, Chad, Namibia, Paraguay, Chile, Venezuela, Georgia, Albania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, East Timor, Macau, Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh.

That's IRI only can find teams who insult Iran or no other team is willing to play them. Absolutely no national pride, no dignity whatsoever. Always bending over for Russia and Arab countries

Japan and Korea both gonna play Colombia and Uruguay.

          Uzbekistan gonna play Albania.

          Mongolia gonna play Georgia.

          Saudi Arabia gonna play Bolivia.

Indonesia gonna play Bolivia and Tajikistan.

I would preferred for Team Melli to play any African (specially Sub-Saharan), Latin American, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, non-Arab teams from Asia than Russia and Iraq.

Imagine if they got Cameroon, South Africa, Liberia, Burundi, Georgia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Chile, Tajikistan for our main team.

For inexperienced players Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Mongolia, Macau, Chad, Namibia, East Timor, Taiwan.

Long live Iran. Persian Gulf Forever.

it’s more than pretty good….it’s freaking amazing. Russia is better than any Asian team besides from Japan. Very tough and physical team with players of all sorts of qualities. A win against them would set a nice tone for our AC prep….maybe we can even get to play them once more before the AC given how buddy buddy IR is with them

Alexander Golovin And Alexei Miranchuk Missed meeting with Russian national team players so they have to be called up for friendly match with Iranian team, former Russian national team midfielder told Sport Day by Day Yevgeny Aldonin .
Earlier, Tasnim agency, citing a statement by the President of the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI), Mehdi Taj, announced a meeting between the national teams of Russia and Iran in Tehran on March 22 or 23. According to , the Russian Football Union (RFU) is waiting for all the necessary documents for this meeting.
                      – Yesterday there were reports that the Russian team could play with Brazilian clubs. Is it better to meet Iran?
                      – I think it doesn’t matter who. National team players need some kind of international matches. The question is not whether it is better or worse, but whether they should be and take place.
                      – Should Alexander Golovin and Alexei Miranchuk be called up for the game against Iran? Another serious contender who played in the World Cup.
                      – Why not?! They also missed meeting the national team players, so I think so. For the overall picture, they will not interfere for sure.
“However, it is difficult for them to travel from Europe under current conditions.
                      – Brazilians also go to national teams, and nothing is normal. Argentinians also travel and play for their national teams, that’s no problem.
Earlier, Russia’s Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin held a meeting with Iran’s Youth and Sports Minister Seyyed Hamid Sajjadi Khazave. At the end of the meeting, the parties signed an action plan for the development of cooperation in the field of physical culture and sport for 2023-2024. It provides for the holding of joint sporting and training events in 20 sports.
On February 17, there will be a friendly match between Zenit and the Iranians of Sepahan. The start is at 3:00 p.m. Moscow time. The match will be broadcast live on the federal channels MATCH TV and MATCH PREMIER, websites matchtv.ru And sportbox.ru.

USMNT left-back Antonee Robinson explained his interaction with Iran's Ramin Rezaeian after knocking the defender out of the World Cup.

                        • Match carried meaning beyond the pitch

WHAT HAPPENED? In a closely-contested game with qualification to the World Cup knockout stages a possibility for both sides, Robinson and the United States men's national team secured passage into the last 16 at the expense of Iran through a 1-0 win. After the full-time whistle, Robinson embraced Rezaeian, and he said they briefly interacted via phone later.

Iran players competed at the World Cup with the backdrop of protests sweeping the streets back home, and a match against a geopolitical rival further intensified the emotions of the group stage game. But Robinson and Rezaeian disregarded those outside forces in their interaction.

                        Article continues below

WHAT THEY SAID: Speaking to The Guardian, Robinson said: "I had more of an embrace with [Rezaeian] and I was telling him: ‘You’ve made your family, your loved ones and your country proud.’ I didn’t see it that I’m American and he’s Iranian. He was just another lad who had just battled against me for 90 minutes."

He revealed that Rezaeian messaged him after the game, which he described as a "nice touch," and added: "They obviously took risks [politically] that my players didn’t have to take. We don’t face the same penalties. I’m not going to pretend I know the ins and outs of Iran but I do know they’re standing up against something that gives them far more consequences than I’ve ever faced. I can only commend them for being there for their people.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Iran finished third in Group B with three points, earned by defeating Wales.

WHAT NEXT FOR ROBINSON? After getting knocked out in the last 16 by the Netherlands, Robinson, or 'Jedi' as he is known by teammates, quickly got back focused on helping Fulham to as high a finish as possible in the Premier League, having put together a sensational return campaign thus far.

TEHRAN - Iran have officially started looking for a new head coach for the national team and one of their candidates is Herve Renard, Iran Football Federation spokesperson Amirmehdi Alavi said.

Team Melli were eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar under tutelage of Carlos Queiroz.

Initial reports suggested that the federation is going to find an Iranian coach but Alavi said that the French coach is also among the candidates.

“As you know, Renard is under contract with Saudi Arabia football team but he will be shortlisted for Iran if he terminates his deal with them,” Alavi said.

Alavi also confirmed that Iran football team will host Iraq and Russia in Tehran in late March.

Hmmm. What are the chances of renard bailing on SA? Pretty low I imagine. Give up the cash cow for a paycheck wrapped up in sanctions for months? Unlikely
