The stories I see from Iranians inside Iran legit despising and hating this team is on the roof....I don't get the vibe that they'll be "happy" even if we beat England.

Stuff like this (literally an hour ago) also doesn't help as it makes it as what's going on inside is no big deal to the players.

Great. What are you doing here then? Tons of political forums exist. I leave my political stuff on those forums. Feel free to pm me for some links. I am also not in Iran and I don't dare tell them how to do things besides offering them my support and best wishes. Nor do I tell TM players anything about their careers and desires besides wishing them well and supporting them.

really disappointed me and many other Iranians. Jahanbakhshs statement today did not help either. If they actually sing the anthem on monday we cannot call them Team Melli anymore. And stop with this do not mix sports & politics especially during these hard times where our fellow countrymen are butchered by a bunch of thugs. Not singing the anthem is the least thing they can do to show their support for the people. By singing the anthem of this barbaric regime they cannot be considered as the peoples team anymore.
You guys either don't follow sports or politics or chose to ignore reality. Hitler met with Olympians and movie stars...some who opposed him. Even British royal family met with Hitler at his height! Presidents meet with championship teams...many opposed Trump, Obama, Clinton. Just cause they met with Raisi doesn't mean they (all) support him. We do not know the circumstances around this meeting/invitation.

This is Iran's team. IRAN THAT ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE irrespective of who is in power and what religion exists!

Also people blaming players for the flag they hold shouldn't judge. Players might be told no other option. Who knows? The same flag is on the IRIFF federation logo? Should the players go shirtless? Don't look at what they are wearing or holding listen to their actions and words. They represent us and no one else!

Thank you bro , you are right .

Team Melli , has been the resistance from day one it has been the only Uniting factor that has stood between the people and this government, they have fought for us, with their sweat, blood and tears, they have done everything for us and they’ve tried their best to represent people every single time so for people to single-handedly attack the only uniting force among all of us it’s almost criminal in my sense
all I see is troll accounts online attacking the team melli players all I see is this really savvy political people going after the team and players , this has nothing to do with football.

These people are taking advantage of the situation for their own personal gain, team Melli doesn’t represent the government it represents the people.

                    Water under the bridge!

I will just add this. Some of us dream of having a certain career, material things...a free Iran. Some of us dream of playing for TM, and others dream about cheering them on in the WC.

Dreams can be many and are not mutually exclusive. No one should ever dare to tell another not to dream. Isn't this the Iran and for that matter the world we want? A place you can dream and work to make it a reality?

So anyone who dares speak out against another's dream, whether that is to play for TM at a WC, to cheer for TM, or to wish for a different Iran...etc, let them dream. Support them. The world can be such a beautiful place.

"Since I was a kid I was always dreaming to play for the national team and Team Melli has always been a big dream for me and I'm sure it's the same for everyone in the squad,” he said. “We always want to respect the jersey and to respect Team Melli no matter what and every single guy who represents the Iran national team has worked so hard to be here and for the last World Cups." ~ Alireza Jahanbakhsh

Lol. Everyone arguing with Hajsafi already.

Everyone seems to have their game faces on, quite focused. I'm sure tensions are high for the opener. Best of luck to our TM!

I just got back from Iran a few days ago - I was there for approximately 5 weeks. What I witnessed and the conversations I had are solely based on MY experiences.

I had multiple discussions with all types of people during the course of my visit. I spoke with cab drivers, artists, musicians, waiters, shop owners, family members, students... all of whom expressed their frustration with the current regime, in particular how its been affecting their lives.
Many of my conversations would naturally veer towards the upcoming WC and Iran's chances of succeeding. Not a single person expressed any resentment or apathy towards our TM. In fact, every person I spoke with was excited about the WC and was looking forward to some reprieve from the chaos and hardships going on in society.

Here's my thing, if those folks, living and surviving in Iran can separate TM from the BS politics swirling around the WC, why can't those siting in their comfy homes in Europe and North America??? Especially those who have never been to Iran or spent any significant amount of time there?

Here's my suggestion to everyone who wants to accuse our TM players of "not being with the people" or "being pro IR". Get up, purchase a ticket to Iran, go over there and get involved in the demonstrations - I would fully support and respect your actions.
