The loss was because of a mental breakdown due to pressure from IR and some undoubtedly unfair people in stadium chanting against Iranian players and coach (which was censored by both Qatar and IR in the game). It was neither tactics nor strategy.
I am more importantly extremely disappointed with some of the previous TM players who came out against TM such as #alikarimi and #mehdimahdavikia and #yahyagolmohammadi. Really shame on them.
What did they do when they were in similar situation in the years they were playing for TM?
#alikarimi wore a green wristband to support Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi in 2010 WC preparation in Korea.

Why has he not resigned? We will see what he does when his hokumati /sepahi team plays other teams in internal Iran league and judge him.
Really shame on these guys, even mora than people sho chanted against TM in the game (as those people would have probably been provoked by the likes of these TM legends!)
Having such great legends! as friends of TM, TM needs no enemies and there is really nothing the coach and the players can do (and it probably doesn't really matter).

The reasons for the mental breakdown are not only there but have worsened. News that people were celebrating your humiliation, that real people in Iran, not just SM, hate you and call you the regime's team and your refusal to sing the anthem were not enough have reached the ears of the whole team.

Now they will have real doubt about the abilities of the coach as well...just like many of the commentators here, the Iranian hero zero tendency is at work in their minds. 14 players (25-11) will be pissed off about not being selected and all of them will have lost faith in the coach.

In the next games, with those doubts looming large, we will have lost the belief that we could launch any comeback once we fall behind.

The most likely outcome for us is zero points and worst performing team in the tournament.

It will take a miracle to get them playing like a team... watch for fighting between the players in the field.

Nobody in the world self-sabotages like us Iranians. We always end up being our own biggest enemy due to our very emotional reactions & inability to see beyond surface level issues.

I have a different view on reasons for the performance and former TM Players.

1. Pressure may have influenced the performance, but it was not crucial. Changing 3! Players on halftime was not pressure related. The guys coming in had the same pressure but did way better. And against Wales, they performed well under pressure.
2. Before comparing players reactions now to 09/10 we may have a look on reactions of Daei, Yahya and Karimi. They all showed balls accepting serious consequences for themselves besides daei and yahya still having interests in Iran. Again, I still believe TM Players should not be forced into resistance. But the only difference between them and daei, yahya was that they could loose wc participation. They did not want to take that risk and people in Iran have decided to have their own judgment. Even if I find that too harsh, Incan see where that is coming from.
2. We did well against Wales and failed against England and US. We just cannot compete with fast teams. Our counters are toothless against their fast defenders and and our defenders play like turtles trying to catch rabbits. That is a fact and needs to be adressed. Football became way faster since Q took over Iran in 2011, and we have no answer for that. Even those opting for Q always mentioned: He is not the best coach but the best TM can get cause no good coach with self respect will deal with the shit in that country. That still applies. That being said, I believe a new coach is necessary although it will not happen. We need a coach that can find a way to connect to people again. Q is now a symbol for IR relations. He will not be able to win any hearts...

The worst defeat in our WC history as well as one of our worst defeats ever. And all because CQ tried to be cute by confusing Southgate, with a totally strange lineup.

We could have easily walked away with a point had he put in the right lineup and tactic.

Cheshmi etc in midfield couldnt even start accelerating before England recovered the loose balls. Our pace of play is way below international standard. Grealish, Rashford, Bellingham etc were breaking any press we offered. We should have played locked like Burnley and countered instead of whatever it was we tried.

I will repeat if we tried to tiki taka vs England the score may have been even worse for the FIFA players

CQ gave way too much space and time to England with that lineup.
