It happened, it's over now. We know that same risk won't be taken against Wales and the US since it's clear there's no room for putting forward a weaker lineup

With its main players, Iran would have, at a minimum, gotten a point out of this game. Beiro's unfortunate injury made matters worse, too.

Love the fact that many of you were calling for CQ and celebrated his second homing and now have completely seen the signs. I said it then and will say it again, we have already tried this with him, we need new tactics. You cannot play like this on the world stage, no matter what else is going on. Everything else is just an excuse. These are professionals at the top of their game, with many playing abroad, and they couldn’t connect more than two passes in the first half?? Just pure embarrassment. My hopes were so high. Close to home, almost home field advantage. Some of the greatest generation of footballers we’ve had. Experience. And this?? No Ghoddos? No Abedzadeh? Ansarifard? Holy freaking Shiite this was the worst soccer I’ve seen in a long time Sunni. We have regressed. Hope they put this behind them and just play soccer. It ain’t over until Googoosh sings!

All those CQ fanboiss are hiding right now. But they shouldn't. They should consider where the main problem with iranian football lies. Is it deeply structural in our football or based on a coach. When one is pointing out their fallacy and cultish appraisal of a mere man, you would always hear some illogical bs.

Look guys, we have slow players in mid and defence. They were totally outpaced today. They lost all aerial battles too. How should either Skocic or CQ fix this problem? Our problem is management oriented and the lack of youth system. We also have serious accountability issues in federation where some players for real can do a coup together with semiofficials and reinstate a coach in last minute.

Right now, coaches is iranian footballs smallest issue.

I dont disagree with that. When Skocic was in charge I was talking about the same. That whoever the coach is, we Will be underdogs. Because our players arent better than that.
but some people thought Carlos Would come and create star players in just 2 months. And if you tried to have a civil conversation about it, you Would be labelled a Skocic fan.

What piss me off isnt the defeat. It isnt even the 6 goals conceeding. It is the starting Line-up. How Can you bench 2 out of you 3 most important players? We have followed the qualifiers and we know who is better than who.
If Brazil loose and they dont use Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and lets say neymar, you dont Think Brasilien Will be pissed?

I am angry that he came in 2 months before and ignored who helped us qualify and used his friends from 2018. And if the plan was to sell the match, im even more pissed off. How Can we get to the Big stage and just accept defeat? Nah its not alright. And this is not hindsight I said it before the game

          and 3-1 is like 1.5-0.5??
          so we lost 1.5 - 0.5??
what kind of logic is that?

We know that the Iranian players have been under tremendous pressure because of the suffering of the people in Iran. I don't think England, Argentina or Brazil would have handled the adversities any better. Just look at how Brazil imploded in 2014 and gave up 6 goals to Germany. But today, the way Hajsafi met Harry Kane before the start of the game seemed to have set the tone, as he addressed him with a nervous smile while Keane maintained a stoic demeanor without a hint of affection. Kane didn't do anything wrong;he was being professional and extremely focused on the task ahead. Iranian players, through body language, showed the same kind of deference and admiration towards Mexican national team players as both teams were waiting outside the tunnel to enter the field. And they lost that game badly. Conversely, at half time against Argentina, as they were walking out of the tunnel, they were determined, driven and, above all, fearless. When they stepped on the field, they huddled together in an absloute show of unity and challenged their opponent fearlessly. And they performed marvelously in the second half. ( Before the start of the second half, am American friend of mine commented: These players are ready for a battle.)

To beat Wales, Iran, first of all, needs to change its mindset. The players obviously need to get rid of the fear that paralyzed them in the first half. After all, what do they really have to lose?

As for player selection, I was astounded not to see the experienced Ezzatollahi start against a fast and physical team like England. Where was Ghodoos? Is it wise to start Cheshmi against a tall and physical team? He nearly gave away a penalty. Also, as I had feared, Iran didn't seem to have a plan to counter England's aerial superiority. Wales and the U.S. probably think they can use the same blueprint against Iran and CQ needs to make the necessary adjustments to defeat that strategy. Just think what the team could have done today with a healthy Beiro and Azmoun, along with addition of players like Saman, Amriri and Ezza. They are capable of performing a lot better.
Plus it doesn't help to have Iranians wishing their defeat. It's the mindset of a nation, not just the players.

In 2014, Brazil succumbed to psychological pressure and bowed out early at home. And the pressure they were under paled in comparison to what Iranian players have had to endure. They should be appauded for the effort they put into this game. Hopefully they can use loss as a learning experience and play much better in the remaining two games.

Am i the only person who cant understand why hosseini is being blamed for the result? Cheshmi and majid where abysmal today. i can only think of one goal where the keeper shouldve done better and even that i think he was unsighted with 3 players in front of him. I hope CQ learnt his lesson today, im much more confident going into the next 2 games after having this beating.+ final point, some of the fans today should be ashamed of themselves for calling our boys bi sharaf. Id like to think that it was aimed at the IFA or something other then our players because they were clearly cheering till the end even when it was 5-1.

I don't know if brazilian players are weaker or stronger mentally. Maybe they are. And none can deny the tremendous pressure footballers are put on. WC + Regime + Anti regime. Its horrible for the players to play under such curcuimstances.

I agree about the psychological aspects. I would love to add philosophical aspects too. We are FAR from being good in this regard. Compared to americans we are miles behind! The players need some schooling in stoic philosophy and in pragmatism. Pro teams in sports read these kind of motivational books. For example Ryan Holidays the obstacle is the way. They are surprisingly good for performance.

But this is so typical of CQ. So much so Saleh called him out for leaving players out of his Egyptian squad.

100%. The CQ fan boys are mighty quite now. It was LAZY to bring him back. We trotted out the same, tired team, but now with ZERO CHEMISTRY between the players who haven't operated with CQ for three years.

The reality is, this team's golden years were 2018. Now they're just old. Everyone outside of Taremi, Azmoun and I'm willing to say potentially Beiranvand, Majid (despite the bad game) and Saman is not truly international quality. ARJ, Sadegh and Nour are fridge players at best. Gholi and Jalali may be in the mix too due to age. H. Hossein, Eza, Pour, Chesmi, Karimi, Hajsafi, Rezaian, Ansarifard and Mohammadi are all either trash or washed up.

+i doubt the Brazilians had their fans calling them honourless and half of their fellow countrymen wanting them to lose

The silver lining for me with this game is that discussions regarding iranian football are moving forward!

Free countries have these kind of discussions all the time. In 2014 France had these about their flaws in system and how next generation will be better. Germans learnt from french developments earlier. Democratic countries and functional organizations are always on their toes and adapt. The responsiveness is huge and it pays off! They want and push for their best interests!

Also these countries are not as sensitive to losses as we are. They learn and move forward! We should too. The biggest win for iran right now would be an institutionalization of hoffenheim model across iran. Or something along those lines! I understand if many people think these kinds of discussions are futile under current system. But I cant see how pushing demands for a certain coach here and there is any more constructive! We saw the result today! R16 has become some kind of fetischized holy grail for us! So much that fundamental things are being left untouched and behind!

I wonder if things could be different if those same CQ ultras would push for structural change! Imagine hundred of thousands of fans pushing for a youth system to be proud of!!!?

I had a big fight with bunch of people who were happy we got destroyed. I lost few friends but what some people did today to make fun of result was really stupid.
