I'll give him 2 more games. If sh!t hits the fan CQ and the crook Taj need to go.

Also anyone questioning why ARJ doesn't play more for club just watch this game. Under pressure is a give away machine. He just doesn't have the talent. I do not believe it is psychological because even when he strings a good play or match immediately sh!ts the bed and is a momentum killer.

That being said about the lineup, this England team was so good and so powerful that no matter who was in or who was out, the result would have been more or less the same. They over-powered us and we had no answer. They played football and we played this other game call bezan ziresh dadash!! Big gap in level and quality and the score rightfully showed that. Can we recover, perhaps! but this underlines how backward football is in our country. Football is not magic, is science!
Judging by how Iran has played against high-level teams such as Argentina, Spain, and Portugal, the country's football does not appear to be as backward as you described. There are other factors that have steadily hampered its progress over the years: sanctions and lack of sufficient resources devoted to the sport; politics, and now the ongoing crisis in the country. Just look at Brazil, perhaps the greatest soccer nation of all time, whose performance on home soil in 2014 would have definitely warranted similar characterization. Their players then, just as Iran's today, were demoralized, to the extent that their skills, collectively, seemed worthy of a second-rate team. (Germany in 2018 is another example.) As for Iran, I have no doubt that the team of 2018, whose core was basically the same, would not have performed this badly against the same England they faced today. In 2018, they had to endure the sanctions;today, they have to endure that and the ongoing pain and suffering of their people. I have no doubt that, under similar circumstances, the greatest teams on the planet would have been just as deeply affected and would have put forth subpar performances as well. That is why, going forward, expectations for the team should be tempered, even though this group of players is entirely capable of reinspiring and reenergizing itself and get the job done.

Lol i would say we beat wales with 2-1, one mehdi penalty plus one open goal, wales get another set piece goal.

Last game either draw or a one goal win vs usa. 3-5 goal game, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2. For either side. Depends on if we have better d than today.

We end up with probably 4, or possibly 6
Hopefully 6, as it may be be needed. Draw is ok if england beat usa and wales.

        edit, more thoughts

If we end up with 2-2 / a draw in wales game, we need a win in the last game. Might grind out a 1 goal differance win if we get an early goal. If we go down i have a hard time seing this team mentaly being able to pull it off. 🤔

Id give us 35-50 % chance, depending on team mental state, to go through. Its on coaching staff and team mental coach to do some magic after today. Mehdis attitude was great to se and gives hope for a bounce back.

The U.S. team usually does well against England. I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. gets a tie in the next game. This group will probably come down to the last match day to determine both of the qualifying spots for the next round.

Is Niazmand reliable as a goalkeeper...? Someone on Twitter was asking for him to be subbed in today. Wikipedia indicates that he is 6' 4" and plays for Sepahan: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payam_Niazmand

Like most people I blame no one but CQ for this result. His starting lineup was atrocious and back fired massively. I have lost a lot of respect for him.

This was suppose to be our WC where we finally advance from group stage and we started it in the worst possible way !!

I am not sure I want to see us advance after such humiliation in front of the whole world.
Our players were under tremendous pressure. Not the usual world Cup pressure but the hate that they felt from many Iranians. When your own coach (Yahya) comes out and publically derides you and your team members, what kind of hate do you expect.

This is the main reason why we lost and will lose the next games as well.

CQ is completely baffled as what to do and how to deal with the politics of the situation. He just does not understand the problem and has no answer for it. He keeps saying that the players want to make the people happy... instead of the players are sad just like the people and we will try our best under these difficult circumstances.

After this game, there is no park the bus in the next 2 games. We need to win both games. Even a draw and win will eliminate us. Now we will get an opertunity to see what our players are made of. This game was all on CQ.

PS, Cheshmi is horrendous, it's better to play with 10 men on the field than to have him in there.

Let me start by saying "thank you CQ", not only for our worst ever WC defeat but for our worst result in a competitive match since 1958. Let that sink in, 1958!

And don't forget in at least one WC, we were coached by an absolute amateur and high school coach!

Had we not scored that last second penalty, this would have been our worst ever defeat, tied with the 6-1 loss to Turkey in 1950!

That was the last time any team scored 6 goals against TM and it was only our 3rd official match!!!

With that out of the way, tactically we were ZERO. As many have already said, the lineup was a disaster and the formation was even worse (what's worse than a disaster, monumental fuckup?!).

At some point in the 2nd half (I think it was around minute 55) we had 53 completed passes vs. England's 453. That's just one completed pass per minute. To put that in perspective, I pass you the ball, you pass it back, that's 2 completed passes in less than 5 seconds!

Yes, some blame does go to our absolutely stupid and "bi-kelaas" fans who, contrary to what they were trying to do, made you wonder if we actually deserve anything better than the IR!

But even with that situation, the last thing you wanted to do was to treat or call our players "kids". They are all grown men, all professionals and they should at least try to suck it up, if not raise the bar. But when someone victimizes you by calling you a kid, what exactly do you think is going to happen?!

With all that said, I'm still fully supporting TM as I've always done and I'm very thankful that there are so many others that are doing the same, because TM is not an extension of any regime and has always belonged to the people and always will.

And I hope that we got a HUGE wakeup call and come back strong and with our heads held high in the next two matches to undo what happened in this match.

Neither the US nor Wales looked like quality 90 minute teams. And we've had many quality 90 minute matches even under CQ.

So let's keep both the spirits and hopes up.

You need to leave the door open to all Iranians including those who will come to the conclusion that supporting this murderous regime is a wrong choice. We need to invite all to join the force not to exclude. And these players are not criminal nor they have killed anyone.
Yes, exactly. We have Spain's transition as the perfect blueprint. And it happened almost exactly at the same time as our revolution. They went the right way, we went the wrong way. Repeating the same thing again, would be the definition of insanity as Einstein would say.

Yes exactly. CQ is sadly clueless and so are the players. I think CQ told them to focus on football past couple of months instead of making political statement and wait for World Cup to end but that was a mistwke

all he, and players needed to do was say exactly as you did. We are sad like the people and will try our best for the result. Our people deserve freedom and we support the women and just go play. Instead CQ keeps saying stupid shit like “we don’t mix politics. How much you pay me? Let the kids just enjoy football”

they Are all coming across incredibly tone deaf. The photoshoot was dumb, why they smile, could have done a cool serious one and just say they wanted to look badass. You guys really think IR FORCE them to smile? No chance. For promotional shoots you always get ones with serious stare down. Or even laughing cutting cake. Maybe it’s not a big deal but it’s what they needed to do for Iranian people

That makes a lot more sense. I was wondering what kinds of idiots pay €200 a ticket to go cheer against their own team.

                          Thanks for sharing.

We are in a better position than the US. They will likely lose to England and go into the final match with 1 point. We can definitely beat Wales and go into that final match with 3 points. In which case a draw against US would most likely get us in to the knockout stage. A win against Wales and we’re in great shape

US can even draw to England, still puts us over them as long as we win 1 + draw 1 at least.
