Can you check history has any team progressed after such humiliation after first match like this?

Hopefully this loss makes CQ put both Taremi and Azmoun in together. He’s have to win the next two games. No more parking the bus.

Honestly, a lot of things came together. A long preparation is crucial for a team like us, which isn't compromised of topstars. Then, the lineup was very unlucky, Karimi and Cheshmi shouldn't be in the squad, let alone the starting lineup.
Then Beiro gets injured early and England basically scores 6 out of 7 chances.
And of course, all the drama and fans turning against their team in the stadium makes a difference too.
I hope they can mentally recover and get a result against Wales.

We saw that players dont have the quality, its very easy.
Of course nothing is nornal, players are under pressure, Kordestan is in War and all see it.
But even in normal form, Cheshmi,Milad Mohammadi,Majid Hosseini, Noorolahi, Hajsafi, Torabi you can nearly name all, are not on this WC level

the only team recently that lost in the World Cup the 1st game and still progressed was Colombia 2018 , the lost to Japan 1st game , but beat Poland (3-0) and Senegal (1-0) , win the last 2 and went

in all seriousness these tm needs a massive overhaul or we not going to beat wales or the USA , no way ,,, the way things look we going to lose to wales and the USA…

I just ask one thing, that we on this forum stay united a bit in our support of this team and the players. Some of them deserve major criticism, as does CQ, but there is a line. For one more week we need to maintain some unity. After that everything will be fair game anyways.

Just checked the stats and the expected goal rate was 2.14 for England and 1.73 for Iran. So statistically it wasn't as bad as the result. England were just very effective. Wales and US won't be and we will play better too. This is far from over, although it feels like it right now.

In what world do hosseini, Cheshmi and Pouraliganji start over Kanaani and Shoja? Why was Mohammadi on he field he hasn’t had a good game in 2 years! Ali Karimi over Ezatolahi, really?! No Ghoddos and played Jahanbaksh out of position. And last but not least, Hosseini over Abedzadeh, with zero hit game experience.

He tried to correct every mistake with the subs he brought on, why didn’t he just start them? Sorry Carlos but you fucked us over with this selection
Amazing that all the talk about firing Skocic was based on this idea that his more possession and passing oriented system would get us spanked by England's quality and speed. Yet CQ came out with an untested, old line-up and basically gave England free room to roam, hoping that parking the bus would work for 90 minutes. Total shit. I can't believe some members here spent months lobbying for today's performance.

One silver lining -- today's result gives Iran reason to play for victories going forward of there is any hope to advance. Other notes: Sardar is ready to play and Mehdi is in form. We also know never to put Hosseini back in goal and that Cheshmi and Karimi worked themselves onto the bench (and potentially off this team, but we only brought 25 instead of 26 players so maybe not...)

I love CQ, but unless this team comes out angry (as opposed to defeated) against Wales, he is about to preside over an unmitigated disaster.

Hopefully there’s no concussion and it was just the immediate effects of getting his schnoz thumped (possibly broken).
Hard to focus and play when your nose is throbbing, swollen nares make it hard to breath, eyes watering, etc.

Been following TM since 1968 and this has to be the most embarrassing and pathetic performance by TM. And our worst defeat ever in the WC.

Like most people I blame no one but CQ for this result. His starting lineup was atrocious and back fired massively. I have lost a lot of respect for him.

This was suppose to be our WC where we finally advance from group stage and we started it in the worst possible way !!

I am not sure I want to see us advance after such humiliation in front of the whole world.

Yes the bus belongs to Kaanani from now on. No more buss i want Taremi to score the 6 goals in groupstage and 6 pts vs wales and usa.

                          Couple of points:
                          - England are one of the best in world. World cup semi-finalists and Euro Finalist. I pointed out previously that they are much harder opponent than Spain coming of a manager switch 14days before the world cup and better than a perpetually underperforming Portugal team.

                          - The loss was going to happen. However the manner in which it happened is entirely on CQ.
Starting a Karimi who's been injured or on the bench for the past two years. Starting Cheshmi who is not even top five in his position in the PGPL. Deploying a tactic which we have not played with in any of our friendlies. Have no creativity up front until the 2nd half. The list goes on.

                          - This isn't the first time we were completely outplayed. Spain match was the same, except they weren't as clinical as England and we got the lucky bounces needed.

                          - The most players besides maybe Moharami and Hajisafi played with no heart. Majid played like a scared mouse, Ezza out of gas after 10 minutes, nobody knew their assignments.
JB needs to find a new profession.

                          - We're not going to make it out of the group. Our biggest weaknesses were exposed and play directly to the hand of the young and energetic USA team.

                          - Despite all of that, they are winners in heart for showing solidarity with the people of Iran.

Ukraine lost to spain 5-0 in WC 2006 and won their two remaining games and got the second place, got knocked out 3-0 by Italy in R16

so is it confirmed the bisharaf chants were directed at players? I thought maybe it was against regime. such a shame. man, I really hate Iranians sometimes.

i guess who cares then, international soccer you play for your people. if the people dont want this, then iran team should just come out with black wristbands and risk it all. maybe they will wait for USA game. but i think it is too late. they have lost the people. this is depressing
