I would like to start shoja but wales will go with Keefer Moore giant up front, not sure about shoja who is undersized cb vs this guy. Majid was exposed today but is still ultimately an option due to fitness, form, prior credit.

    ---------------------Beiro/Niazmand------------------

    Moharrami-----Kanaani-----Majid/Shoja-----Hajsafi/Jalali

    -------------------------Ezatolahi------------------
    -----------Ghoddos-----------------Amiri

    Torabi----------------Azmoun--------Taremi

    From bench:

Ansarifard for azmoun around min 60
    Gholizadeh for Torabi
    Nourollahi for Saeid

Good news after mess today, most of these guys are well rested.
I go with your lineup aswell.

Hope Beiro is back and nose isnt broken. But it probably is. Way to big noses to survive in that collision., ☹ odds are its broken judging from his reaction and the power of that hit. Hopefully there is no skull/chin fractures or serious braindamage/concussion. Wtf was medicals thinking not taking him of, thats the biggest scandal of yesterday for me.

Anyway, he went out with a hero fingertip save, or it would have been an open goal header by the english player running in behind him.

I think we ought set up as follows:

        -------------------------Hosseini-------------------------------
        Sadegh------Kanaani----Shoja/Hosseini------Hajisafi
        -------Torabi----------------Ezza---------------Amiri--------
        ----------------------------Ghoddos----------------------------
        -----------------Azmoun------------Taremi-------------------

Insofar as GK is concerned: I was not impressed by Hosseini at all today BUT, I very much do believe that--given that Beiro is almost definitely concussed and therefore unavailable--our best option is not to experiment further. Instead, let's chalk Hosseini's performance up to nerves, the quality of opposition, the extraordinary efficiency of the opposition (their xG of 2.11 resulted in 6 goals scored), and the chaos of his introduction early on the match. I say this due to Niazmand's inexperience and Abedzadeh's inconsistency. In my mind, it doesn't serve us to experiment any further. Ultimately, if Beiro is out, we have to make do with what we have and Hosseini at least has the England match under his belt to potentially improve from (since I'm not convinced that Abdedzadeh/Niazmand won't be prone to nerves, etc.). CQ is a former keeper and our GKing coach should be able to work Hosseini into a serviceable shape going forward.

For the wingbacks/midfield, I'm sorry to say that I really do think Torabi and Amiri are out best shots against Wales (believe me, I'm no fan of their politics). Torabi was actually rather good today and provides defensive work rate in addition to the ability to hold onto the ball. Amiri has a high football IQ, defensive work rate, and can get forward as well. Saeid is clearly out of shape but if he's insulated well enough by Torabi/Amiri, I think he could be quite useful.

For the attackers: Ghoddos with an elevated midfield role to maintain possession longer than we did against England today as well as his eye for a good pass. Azmoun and Taremi together up top given that we are fighting for our life in the tournament on Friday and can't afford to keep anyone in reserve.

Hopefully, this lineup strikes an appropriate balance between the necessities of: 1) defensive stability (particularly given speedy opponents such as Dan James, et al.); and 2) offensive capabilities (the necessity of us taking all 3 pts from this match, particularly given the fact that I do NOT believe that the match against the USA is going to be an easy one in that they have plenty of technically able, dynamic, quick, and exciting talent that could trouble our slower, more deliberate mid/defense in a Matchday 3 Scenario where both the USA and Iran need a win to advance).

Yeah at this point im happy with a good performance, never mind next round. Good performance, few more nice goals, we might pull it off with round of 16, its a mental game from now on. .

Hope england crushes the other teams aswell for the gd sake. Then maybe our 2 goals play an important role in the end, as in more goals scored. If that rule still applies if gd is a tie. Before going to head to head stats we gave -4 atm Sooo lets go england? 5-0 usa, 3-0 wales.

mashsaeed cmon man, i know moharrami wasn't great today but I have a hard time seeing ramin at 32 being better than him....dude was a hot head back in 2018 but now he is a hot head with less speed in 2022.

I genuinely love how much of an optimist you guys are. Once the third goal got scored, I immediately stopped thinking about R 16 whatsoever.

At this point my hope is:

                - One decent half of football
                - A celebration that indicates support for protest (like the one the beach soccer team did)

Anything more than that is gravy.

I dont fully agree to your Keeper choice and commentary...!
Amir has nerves of steel and maximum composure and confidence, excellent reflexes and clutch performances .... just that he is short and his height could become a liability on set pieces vs bigger and physical welsh targetmen, especially that Moore dude who got subbed in to their attacking line in the 2nd half and completely changed the complexion of their game for the welsh..! hossaini rid today totally ... was only an spectator in our goal today..! he obviously severely lacking the mental toughness and confidence to be playing at such a level of games..! Amir has been a reliable 1st choice for much of our WCQ ... had to scramble off his line a few times due to chaotic defensive situations and everyone blamed him Solely for the sooties which were essentially actually Defender FK ups ..!!

but overall i do like the rest of the team selection and the set up .... AND Shoja and Kannai duo as CB is a MUST FOR ME moving forward..!
these 2 are Tried and tested multiple times by skoocher and by enlarge have come through with flying colors and have built a good understanding and partnership between them..!
majid Hossaini is just too slow and not nearly combative and physical enough to handle the madding pace and intensity of WC games..! proved it so today..! he is only useful as an extra defender in a 5man backline formation or coming off the bench if necessary to close out a winning match..!

mf_doom jan your post inspired me.

In the end its only football, so for the fun of it here is a special post, super optimistic. Some valid points mixed with some less valid points 😁

Here is my optimist twist lol. Just for fun.

CQ treated this as practice game and warmup, for him wc exists of only 2 games, he is also preeparing us for next worldcup with 3 team groups, aka 2 games only in groupstage. He will coach us at next world cup aswell. We made 6 subs, rotaded almost whole squad today.

Cq planned the loss, to wake up the team mentally. It gave instant results in 2 half as Taremi scored twice. Thats why he put the lineup as he did.

Cq planned Beiras injury, thats why he put Hosseini there and not Kaananis big head. Beira would be in serious pain if it was Kaanani. Thats also why he picked 4 gk.

after this mastermind wakeupcall, Ezza will play like Viera vs Wales, Abedz will play like Buffon, Gholizadeh and Amiri will be like Busquets and Iniesta mixed with a little bit of Xavi and Deco, with a twist of Figo, Hajisafi will hit freekicks like Juninho and Taremi will score a hattrick, (last one is not impossible at all)

Azmoun will get to watch 5000 replays of his shot at the poor barr instead of calmy rolling the ball in at the side of the keeper. Bad bad miss, but planned by Cq aswell.

And oh yess, its coming to Qom. We will win the cup.

In CQ we trust, for 2022 and 2028 world cups.

I've watched the Dinamo Zagreb UCL games, and Moharrami does well, but he seems all too often late in his attempted cross blocks. Meaning, when he's marking and tracking a player down the right hand side, he lifts his legs too late to intercept the blocks. It led to a goal today, and it had led to a few chances on goal for the opposing team vs. Dinamo in UCL. I think this is an issue we need to nib in the bud quick. Mohammadi is agile and quick, the makes those blocks, but his build up is lacking, but he rarely has good options.

This is why I think Ramin would be better than Moharrami in the RB position.

At lower levels you can get away with players like Nourellahi and Cheshmi. NOT at this level.
Unfortunately, while Ghoddos is best played at central-mid on Team Melli, it's not his natural position. He is naturally an outside mid.

But in the World Cup, we obviously have a lack of central-mids, so we adjust.

I am wondering what you all think about dropping Taremi to an attacking mid, and putting Karim up top with Azmoun?

i don't know why Ghoddos has spent his entire TM career on the bench. he is technically our best player on the ball. his ability to hold possession and dribble resulted in the foul vs morocco that lead to the free kick which one us the game. i hope Beiro will be fit for the game. regardless, CQs lineup was absolutely disastrous and screwed us over from the start. i hope he goes with an offensive minded line up. TM scored our first open goal since 2014 and our first 2 goal game since 98. i feel this line up will be very strong, fast, offensive minded, with defensive capability. i wish our team the best
I agree with everything you said, except one aspect: while Samman is good on the ball, he's definitely not our best. That award definitely belongs to Taremi; he has the best touch and skill, bar none.
