And yet, they’re able in friendly games against top level opposition like Uruguay when they constructed several flowing moves against an organised and difficult press.
Yes, some is clearly down to overly negative tactics making it harder to play out with so many behind the ball. But there’s times where you can hear CQ imploring them to remain calm on the ball.
If we solve this mentality issue we are more than capable of beating Wales and the US. The 2nd half of the Spain, Argentina and Portugal games is the closest we’ve come to overcoming that, and the players need to channel that in the next 2 games.
