After yesterday I'm not sure about CQ being the right man for TM. He made big tactical blunders and he doesn't believe we can score goals by playing cowardly. The team collapsed like crazy and he is 100% to blame for this. Anything else than 2 wins from the remaining games is a failure to me. I keep asking myself, why can teams like Tunisia and Saudi Arabia play positive football and not be afraid of the opponent, while we lay out the red carpet for other teams to keep attacking and scoring?

somebody said CQ played 4-3-3 !!!!
what's written on a sheet of paper is one thing, but the kind of players you pick say a different thing.

Having 7 defensive minded players + JB, Nourolahi and Taremi looks more like 7-2-1
Who was the LW? Hajsafi? He's too defensive to be a winger.
Even in the middle, Cheshmi & Karimi are known DM's.

      No.
This was a typical overly defensive team by CQ that didnt dare and deserve to get even a point. And it didnt

Because for the past 8+ years we’ve played defensive and majority of the fanbase thinks playing defensive and losing gracefully is better then going out there to win. Yea Wilmots screwed us, Skocic didn’t have the caliber we needed but seriously, CQ was at the helm for 8 years and here we are. Everybody and their mother knows CQs game plan, and at this point we have to face the reality that we need a complete revamp. So sad to see Taremi and Azmoun’s talents getting wasted instead having a game plan put together to use them to our advantage.

Skocic stinks but CQ is not much better anymore I am afraid. any reasonable coach would play Eza, Ghoddos in midfield and use his talented attacking players to fill the wing and just have them track back. Saudi Arabia is a good team and Herve Renard a brilliant coach, I said to many people they would surprise people and nobody listened

The fact of the matter is that (most but not all) iranian players are extremely koon goshud. They like easy money and easy training (main reason why the jump at the chance to go to arab countries like Ghaedi did). They are not self disciplined whatsoever.

They need an authoritarian who lays down the law and has a force of personality to deal with any hashieh or nonsense. 2010 TM was an embarrassment and CQ deserves credit for shaping up the players and putting together a respectable side. No we didn't do anything special but it was a far cry from not making the WC in 2010.

However yes the negatives are clear as well. There is a ceiling to CQ football and it is low (at best). At times it feels like a crap shoot rather than well idealized plan.

In our current place, I think the main issue impacting him is time; IFF took it's sweet time getting rid of Skocic when the writing was on the wall. I can't help but think that if IFF acted sooner, and CQ had more time to get players in shape, we would be in a better spot. But then again maybe I am just making excuses for this whole mess....
You have some valid points. But I do feel CQ invites hashieh. Attacking refs in press conferences, don't forget he wasn't on the sidelines for Egpyt in the CAF finals because of a red card. Going after opposition coaches (Choi) with childlike gestures, and now the middle fingerings of obviously idiot fans...as well as the handling of some press and reporters questions with a very arrogant and combative tone. This plays on the Iranian emotional psyche that our players are not immune too. He does not instill calm and coolness and I feel we need that in TM.

Well, here we go again. Can we really be optimistic about the next two games? Why do we even need to wait for those games. Just so many things wrong one does not know where to start. Lets start at we built a team they played tight together for 2 years almost then despite getting great results (yes not good great) we fired him because a player said they played mafia. We brought in CQ who immediately said there is not enough time and pretty much destroyed what was built until then and rebuilt his already failed system wit the players h knows best.

But here is where it really gets shocking: His roster and starting line up can be said are vastly different than the players and the system that got us there. All through these games other than a couple of blunders Abedzadeh was our second goalie even competing with Beiro for first goalie, he then is unceremoniously ignored, all the investment we made in him including a loss to S.K and out of no where comes Seyed Hosseini. Out goes Shoja and Kananizadegan who had proven great and in comes Majid Hosseini, Pag. In comes Milmohammadi, Cheshmi, karimi...etc. The mind (that can think properly) is baffled. Yes, CQ has now taken our worst players for the most part to 3 world cups! Look at his lists and I dare you to say so and so was amongst the best in Iran that year. At least the least skillful of the bunch.

We are not even talking about his outdated, tested and failed over and over again, one trick pony, strategy. The worst defeats in our history under his belt, the worst performances stats wise, and on top of it he is a perennial loser where ever he has gone. I said this before and I will say it again: The own goal victory over Morocco was the worst thing that could have happened. Our credibility is even out the window as a football country that is why you see teams play the way they do against us. CQ has destroyed our soccer, our belief in our selves and our soccer culture. I would not even wait for the other two games, just write them off, fire this guy for the last time and have the players put on a respectable show not even worrying about the result. And yes, I will say the same thing even if we win the next two games and advance. We have been asleep for more than a decade, three world cup appearances which usually should separate us from others and developing future talents has been spent on trying the same thing over and over with the most tired list of recurring players who have no business in TM. If we could send everyone in this team home and bring a new team for the remaining games I would.

So according to you Skocic did not have the caliber but played all the players any reasonable coach would?! Who has THE CALIBER? CQ?

The more I watch teams play football the more I see clearly
how much outdated and incompetent CQ is.
He is just not good enough to be at the world cup among
                  these brilliant modern head coaches.
The way these teams play is just so different to
the way he is making TM play!!!! Pathetic!!!
                  Australia just scored on France!!!!
                  Unbelievable!!!

The self-declared best coach in the world and his emotional instability impacts his team's negatively. Why in the world would you take an ounce of focus off your team and the match to engage fans in a argument? Ignore them. Do your job. His emotional instability often impacts Team Melli as they don't play with composure as if they want to hurry and get rid of the ball. They are happy to let the other team dictate all aspects of the game.
CQ made mistakes in his setup and player selection vs England and we will definitely benefit attacking Wales/USA.

I respectfully disagree with you about not pushing back against all this abuse(its abuse, no other word) that the team is getting from fans .

For a frank discussion here is this: Every western countrys state media and broader media hates Iran and all things Iranian. They just want bad press for the team it doesn't matter if Cyrus the Great were president today the media would be the same. Iranian fans are commenting death threats, abusive language to what are a group of mostly 20 something year old people over something they didn't arrange themselves, nor had any say in. Any person who has a family member in Iran who works a public sector job for IR should automatically excommunicate that person and label them a regime agent based on this thinking. That's what these people are basically saying despite some of the team writing things in support of the people that frankly could have/already gotten them into huge trouble.

As a Manchester United fan and big fan of Sir Alex(who could make average players look world class) I absolutely like a coach that protects his players from abuse. Ignoring these things only have negative effects, while creating an us vs them mentality puts fire into the team. If Skocic/Branko etc were coach I would want the same thing and would respect more for it. It goes the same for club teams. No player is bigger than a coach. No player is bigger than a team.

The fans were cheering the players and we boo'd the national anthem. I saw video of someone giving middle finger to CQ, I don't know what that was about. The sefarati types were there but the anti-IR crowd was larger.

Of course, you had the regime mozdoors in the crowd and also they were outside the stadium taking pictures. One incident is a hijabi women located one basiji taking pictures and she got the police involved and they deleted his images. Iranian women are so strong. The basiji bastard was wearing a Vahid Amiri jersey btw.

Honestly, the players looked deflated, they were not moving much and it's clear that the off-field stuff affected them. England looked great - like a machine.

I'm curious what CQ needed the extra preparation time for??? Figure how we can also use the stewards as the bus we park in front of our goal??????

How would Park the bus need extra preparation time?

Parking the bus is not as simple as it seems. Plenty of teams try doing it during the world cup and fail miserably; it requires knowing your role, when to press, when to back off etc....but my thinking is that the extra time would have been useful for conditioning (e.g. start enforcing strict dietary habits and exercise routines to ensure that these players can last for 90 min)
The obscure we see eventually. The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer. ~Edward R. Murrow

I don't know what people were expecting.
we changed coaches two months before the world cup.
I said at the time, you can put Pep in charge and Iran would not get result this close to the world cup, let alone a mid tier coach like CQ.

All that drama, emasculation of Skocic, just to end up getting the the same results we would have got with Skocic in charge.

I don't mind defending your team and players as he should. I do question getting into a middle finger match with rude fans in the middle of a WC match. His focus should be on the game and players. We didn't hire him to teach adab to idiotic and rude fans. Save that for the press conference.

Maguire is constantly abused by fans and media in England. Not once has Southgate behaved this way in the middle of a match.

We prob would have lost with Skocic but prob more like 3-1 or 4-2. Highly doubt more than 4 would have been scored.
