Just seeing how strong Morocco are reminds me of them four years ago, they really deserved much more out of their games against Spain and Portugal.

When people were calling them the potential dark horses of the tournament, it wasn't because their players were all performing at the highest level for clubs throughout europe that year, it was because they played very well as a team.

If they were in any other group they would have progressed then. I still think that is the best world cup result (though not performance) in Iran's history so far, given the strength of the opposition.

Always a day late and a dollar short. Too rigid and too exposed tactically for the modern game. Can't remember the last time his team has ever fought back and won. 5 major tournaments and basically zero success outside brief moments of "agar a shayad" due to blips on the performance radar.

The self-declared "one of the best coaches" really blows a lot of smoke. At least we didn't lose, no losing in football just learning according to CQ!

With the the benefit of hindsight:

I love and admire CQ's passion for TM and its players. I love how he stood up to Klinsmann. I love how he pointed out the hypocrisy of western media. I love how he stood up for his players.

But from a footballing perspective, we should have never fired Skocic. Both Wales and US were not teams for TM to defend all the time. We should have played them on equal footing. We sort of did against Wales and did very well.

CQ did not have enough time to identify the issues and come up with appropriate fixes and alternative players. The defense was not secure as 2018 was, and in 2018 we played 3 games against much better teams than US or Wales. He should not have taken the job for his own sake.

CQs player selection, not to mention team setup was very puzzling. With Azmun struggling with fitness, why would you leave a spot empty and not take Shahab who seemed to be in good form. Even if Shahab was not right for some reason, why not Alipour. If none of them, why would you not take another CF from the league? Why take 4 GKs and leave decent field players behind?

This WC is behind us too. I hope we learn our lessons. The campaign to replace Skocic was scandalous and not becoming of Iran. The bandwagon mentality hurts us both in football and beyond. The inability to stop and think before repeating what grandma's cousin heard is idiotic. The inability to distinguish between friend and foe hurts us beyond belief.

We need to understand that the most extreme position is not always the best one, and frequently is the worst. We need to understand that the entities that are sowing divisions amongst us (Saudi International, BBC, Sky, and IR) do not give a shit about Iran, never did and never will. It is up to us to think, to discuss without labeling, to have a conversation without insults or accusations.

Long Live CQ. Long live TM. And long live Iran.
